The drag and diffusion coefficients of heavy quarks propagating through quark gluon plasma (QGP) have been estimated by shielding both the electric and magnetic type infra-red divergences. The electric type screening in perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD) has been widely studied and used in evaluating the diffusion coefficient of heavy quarks (HQs). To our knowledge the impact of magnetic screening in diffusion coefficients of HQs is not studied before. It is found that the effect of magnetic screening mass on the drag and diffusion coefficients of HQs is quite significant and its contribution should not be ignored for explaining the experimental data of heavy quark observables.

The radiative energy loss of fast partons traveling through the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is commonly studied within perturbative QCD (pQCD). Nonperturbative (NP) effects, which are expected to become important near the critical temperature, have been much less investigated. Here, we utilize a recently developed $T$-matrix approach to incorporate NP effects for gluon emission off heavy quarks propagating through the QGP. We set up four cases that contain, starting from a Born diagram calculation with color-Coulomb interaction, an increasing level of NP components, by subsequently including (remnants of) confining interactions, resummation in the heavy-light scattering amplitude, and off-shell spectral functions for both heavy and light partons. For each case we compute the power spectra of the emitted gluons, heavy-quark transport coefficients (drag and transverse-momentum broadening, $hat{q}$), and the path-length dependent energy loss within a QGP brick at fixed temperature. Investigating the differences in these quantities between the four cases illustrates how NP mechanisms affect gluon radiation processes. While the baseline perturbative processes experience a strong suppression of soft radiation due to thermal masses of the emitted gluons, confining interactions, ladder resummations and broad spectral functions (re-)generate a large enhancement toward low momenta and low temperatures. For example, for a 10 GeV charm quark at 200 MeV temperature, they enhance the transport coefficients by up to a factor of 10, while the results smoothly converge to perturbative results at sufficiently hard scales.
Employing a field dependent three-momentum cut-off regularization technique, we study the phase structure and mesonic masses using the $2$-flavour Nambu-Jona Lasinio model at finite temperature and density in presence of arbitrary external magnetic f ield. This approach is then applied to incorporate the effects of the anomalous magnetic moment(AMM) of quarks on constituent quark mass and thermodynamic observables as a function of temperature/baryonic density. The critical temperature for transition from chiral symmetry broken to the restored phase is observed to decrease with the external magnetic field, which can be classified as inverse magnetic catalysis, while an opposite behaviour is realized in the case of a vanishing magnetic moment, implying magnetic catalysis. These essential features are also reflected in the phase diagram. Furthermore, the properties of the low lying scalar and neutral pseudoscalar mesons are also studied in presence of a hot and dense magnetized medium including AMM of the quarks using random phase approximation. For non-zero values of magnetic field, we notice a sudden jump in the mass of the Goldstone mode at and above the Mott transition temperature which is found to decrease substantially with the increase in magnetic field when the AMM of the quarks are taken into consideration.
We study the propagation of charm quarks in the early stage of high energy proton-lead collision, considering the interaction of these quarks with the evolving Glasma by means of the Wong equations. Neglecting quantum fluctuations at the initial time the Glasma is made of longitudinal fields, but the dynamics leads to a quick formation of transverse fields; we estimate such a formation time as $Delta tapprox 0.1$ fm/c which is of the same order of the formation time of heavy quark pairs $t_mathrm{formation}approx 1/(2m)$. Limiting ourselves to the simple case of a static longitudinal geometry, we find that heavy quarks are accelerated by the strong transverse color fields in the early stage and this leads to a tilting of the $c-$quarks spectrum towards higher $p_T$ states. This average acceleration can be understood in terms of drag and diffusion of $c-$quarks in a hot medium and appears to be similar to the one felt by the electrons ejected by the electron cannon in a cathode tube: we dub this effect as {it cathode tube effect}. The tilting of the spectrum affects the nuclear modification factor, $R_mathrm{pPb}$, suppressing this below one at low $p_T$ and making it larger than one at intermediate $p_T$. We compute $R_mathrm{pPb}(p_T)$ after the evolution of charm quarks in the gluon fields and we find that its shape is in qualitative agreement with the measurements of the same quantity for $D-$mesons in proton-lead collisions.

The Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) is a remarkable phenomenon that stems from highly nontrivial interplay of QCD chiral symmetry, axial anomaly, and gluonic topology. It is of fundamental importance to search for the CME in experiments. The heavy ion c ollisions provide a unique environment where a hot chiral-symmetric quark-gluon plasma is created, gluonic topological fluctuations generate chirality imbalance, and very strong magnetic fields $|vec{bf B}|sim m_pi^2$ are present during the early stage of such collisions. Significant efforts have been made to look for CME signals in heavy ion collision experiments. In this contribution we give a brief overview on the status of such efforts.
Rapidity-odd directed flow in heavy ion collisions can originate from two very distinct sources in the collision dynamics i. an initial tilt of the fireball in the reaction plane that generates directed flow of the constituents independent of their c harges, and ii. the Lorentz force due to the strong primordial electromagnetic field that drives the flow in opposite directions for constituents carrying unlike sign charges. We study the directed flow of open charm mesons $D^0$ and $overline{D^0}$ in the presence of both these sources of directed flow. The drag from the tilted matter dominates over the Lorentz force resulting in same sign flow for both $D^0$ and $overline{D^0}$, albeit of different magnitudes. Their average directed flow is about ten times larger than their difference. This charge splitting in the directed flow is a sensitive probe of the electrical conductivity of the produced medium. We further study their beam energy dependence; while the average directed flow shows a decreasing trend, the charge splitting remains flat from $sqrt{s_{NN}}=60$ GeV to $5$ TeV.
