We report the discovery of a mid-infrared variable AGN which is hosted by an ultraluminous infrared galaxy (ULIRG) candidate in the Sloan Stripe 82 field. textit{WISE} textit{J030654.88+010833.6} is a red, extended galaxy, which we estimate to be at a photometric redshift of 0.28 $leq$ z $leq$ 0.31, based on its optical and near-infrared spectral energy distribution (SED). The factor of two variability over 8 years seen in the textit{WISE} 3.4 and 4.6 $mu$m wavelength channels is not clearly correlated with optical variability in archival data. Based on our estimation of the physical parameters of the host galaxy, textit{J030654.88+010833.6} is possibly a composite AGN/starburst ULIRG in a phase where high star formation $sim$ 70 M$_{odot}$ year$^{-1}$ is occurring. Our estimate of the black hole mass to stellar mass ratio also appears to be consistent with that of broad-line AGN in the local universe. The long-term variability of textit{J030654.88+010833.6} as seen in the textit{WISE} textit{W1} and textit{W2} light curves is likely due to variations in the accretion rate, with the energy being reprocessed by dust in the vicinity of the AGN.

We have carried out a dedicated transient survey of 300 deg$^2$ of the SDSS Stripe 82 region using the Giant Meterwavelength Radio Telescope (GMRT) at 150 MHz. Our multi-epoch observations, together with the TGSS survey, allow us to probe variability and transient activity on four different timescales, beginning with 4 hours, and up to 4 years. Data calibration, RFI flagging, source finding and transient search were carried out in a semi-automated pipeline incorporating the SPAM recipe. This has enabled us to produce superior-quality images and carry out reliable transient search over the entire survey region in under 48 hours post-observation. Among the few thousand unique point sources found in our 5$sigma$ single-epoch catalogs (flux density thresholds of about 24 mJy, 20 mJy, 16 mJy and 18 mJy on the respective timescales), we find $<$0.08%, 0.01%, $<$0.06% and 0.05% to be variable (beyond a significance of 4$sigma$ and fractional variability of 30%) on timescales of 4 hours, 1 day, 1 month and 4 years respectively. This is substantially lower than that in the GHz sky, where $sim$1% of the persistent point sources are found to be variable. Although our survey was designed to probe a superior part of the transient phase space, our transient sources did not yield any significant candidates. The transient (preferentially extragalactic) rate at 150 MHz is therefore $<$0.005 on timescales of 1 month and 4 years, and $<$0.002 on timescales of 1 day and 4 hours, beyond 7$sigma$ detection threshold. We put these results in the perspective with the previous studies and give recommendations for future low-frequency transient surveys.

The Seyfert galaxy NGC 5515 has double-peaked narrow-line emission in its optical spectrum, and it has been suggested that this could indicate that it has two active nuclei. We observed the source with high resolution Very Long Baseline Interferometr y (VLBI) at two radio frequencies, reduced archival Very Large Array data, and re-analysed its optical spectrum. We detected a single, compact radio source at the position of NGC 5515, with no additional radio emission in its vicinity. The optical spectrum of the source shows that the blue and red components of the double-peaked lines have very similar characteristics. While we cannot rule out unambiguously that NGC 5515 harbours a dual AGN, the assumption of a single AGN provides a more plausible explanation for the radio observations and the optical spectrum.

We present an analysis of the substructure revealed by 407 RR Lyraes in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Stripe 82. Period estimates are determined to high accuracy using a string-length method. A subset of 178 RR Lyraes with spectrally derived metall icities are employed to derive metallicity-period-amplitude relations, which are then used to find metallicities and distances for the entire sample. The RR Lyraes lie between 5 and 115 kpc from the Galactic center. They are divided into subsets of 316 RRab types and 91 RRc types based on their period, colour and metallicity. The density distribution is not smooth, but dominated by clumps and substructure. Samples of 55 and 237 RR Lyraes associated with the Sagittarius Stream and the Hercules-Aquila Cloud respectively are identified. Hence, ~ 70 % of the RR Lyraes in Stripe 82 belong to known substructure. There is a sharp break in the density distribution at Galactocentric radii of 40 kpc, reflecting the fact that the dominant substructure in Stripe 82 - the Hercules-Aquila Cloud and the Sagittarius Stream - lies within 40 kpc. In fact, almost 60 % of all the RR Lyraes in Stripe 82 are associated with the Hercules-Aquila Cloud alone, which emphasises its pre-eminence. Additionally, evidence of a new and distant substructure - the Pisces Overdensity - is found, consisting of 28 faint RR Lyraes centered on Galactic coordinates (80 deg, -55 deg) and with distances of ~ 80 kpc. The total stellar mass in the Pisces Overdensity is ~10000 solar masses and its metallicity is [Fe/H] ~ -1.5.

This work is a Brazilian-Indian collaboration. It aims at investigating the structuralproperties of Lenticular galaxies in the Stripe 82 using a combination of S-PLUS (Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey) and SDSS data. S-PLUS is a noveloptica l multi-wavelength survey which will cover nearly 8000 square degrees of the Southern hemisphere in the next years and the first data release covers the Stripe 82 area. The morphological classification and study of the galaxies stellar population will be performed combining the Bayesian Spectral type (from BPZ) and Morfometryka (MFMTK) parameters. BPZ and MFMTK are two complementary techniques, since the first one determines the most likely stellar population of a galaxy, in order to obtain its photometric redshift (phot-z), and the second one recovers non-parametric morphological quantities, such as asymmetries and concentration. The combination ofthe two methods allows us to explore the correlation between galaxies shapes (smooth, with spiral arms, etc.) and their stellar contents (old or young population). The preliminary results, presented in this work, show how this new data set opens a new window on our understanding of the nearby universe.
We discuss here a long Suzaku observation of IRAS 19254-7245 (also known as the Superantennae), one of the brightest and well studied Ultra Luminous Infrared Galaxies in the local Universe. This long observation provided the first detection of IRAS 1 9254-7245 above 10 keV, and measured a 15-30 keV flux of ~5x10^(-12) erg cm^-2 s^-1. The detection above 10 keV has allowed us to unveil, for the first time, the intrinsic luminosity of the AGN hosted in IRAS 19254-7245, which is strongly absorbed (Nh ~ 3x10^(24) cm^-2) and has an intrinsic luminosity in the QSO regime (L(2-10 keV) ~ 3 x 10^(44) erg s^-1). The 2-10 keV spectrum of IRAS 19254-7245 is remarkably hard (Gamma~1.2), and presents a strong iron line (EW ~0.7 keV), clearly suggesting that below 10 keV we are seeing only reprocessed radiation. Since the energy of the Fe K emission is found to be at ~6.7 keV, consistent with He-like Fe, and its EW is too high to be explained in a starburst dominated scenario, we suggest that the 2--10 keV emission of IRAS 19254-7245 is dominated by reflection/scattering from highly ionized matter. Indeed, within this latter scenario we found that the photon index of the illuminating source is Gamma=1.87 (+0.11,-0.28), in excellent agreement with the mean value found for radio quiet unobscured AGN.
