A typical f-electron Kondo lattice system Ce exhibits the well-known isostructural transition, the so-called gamma-alpha transition, accompanied by an enormous volume collapse. Most interestingly, we have discovered that a topological-phase transition also takes place in elemental Ce, concurrently with the gamma-alpha transition. Based on the dynamical mean-field theory approach combined with density functional theory, we have unravelled that the non-trivial topology in alpha-Ce is driven by the f-d band inversion, which arises from the formation of coherent 4f band around the Fermi level. We captured the formation of the 4f quasi-particle band that is responsible for the Lifshitz transition and the non-trivial Z2 topology establishment across the phase boundary. This discovery provides a concept of topology switch for topological Kondo systems. The on and off switching knob in Ce is versatile in a sense that it is controlled by available pressure (around 1 GPa) at room temperature.

The nature of order in low-temperature phases of some materials is not directly seen by experiment. Such hidden orders (HO) may inspire decades of research to identify the mechanism underlying those exotic states of matter. In insulators, HO phases o riginate in degenerate many-electron states on localized f or d shells that may harbor high-rank multipole moments. Coupled by inter-site exchange, those moments form a vast space of competing order parameters. Here, we show how the ground state order and magnetic excitations of a prototypical HO system, neptunium dioxide NpO$_2$, can be fully described by a low-energy Hamiltonian derived by a many-body ab initio force-theorem method. Superexchange interactions between the lowest crystal-field quadruplet of Np$^{4+}$ ions induce a primary non-collinear order of time-odd rank-5 (triakontadipolar) moments with a secondary quadrupole order preserving the cubic symmetry of NpO$_2$. Our study also reveals an unconventional multipolar exchange-striction mechanism behind the anomalous volume contraction of the NpO$_2$ HO phase.

Hexagonal CoSn is a newly-discovered frustrated kagome metal. It shows close-to-textbook flat bands and orbital-selective Dirac fermions, which are largely associated with its strongly correlated Co-3$d$ orbitals. Because correlated electronic states are easily regulated by external conditions (such as chemical doping, pressure, and temperature), the fate of these kagome-derived electronic bands upon temperature becomes an interesting and unsolved question. In this work, we try to study the temperature-dependent electronic structures of hexagonal CoSn by means of the density functional theory in conjunction with the embedded dynamical mean-field theory. We find that hexagonal CoSn is in close proximity to a Mott insulating state at ambient condition. Special attention is devoted to the evolution of its Co-3$d$ electronic states with respect to temperature. At least six different temperatures (or energy scales), namely $T^{*}$, $T_{text{FL}}$, $T_{text{S1}}$ (and $T_{text{S2}}$), $T_{text{SF}}$, and $bar{T}$, are figured out. They are related to stabilization of the pseudogap state, emergence of the non-Fermi-liquid phase, onset (and completeness) of the intermediate spin state, occurrence of the spin-frozen phase, beginning of the orbital freezing transition, respectively.

We report extremely large positive magnetoresistance of 1.72 million percent in single crystal TaSb$_{2}$ at moderate conditions of 1.5 K and 15 T. The quadratic growth of magnetoresistance (MR $propto,B^{1.96}$) is not saturating up to 15 T, a manif estation of nearly perfect compensation with $<0.1%$ mismatch between electron and hole pockets in this semimetal. The compensation mechanism is confirmed by temperature-dependent MR, Hall and thermoelectric coefficients of Nernst and Seebeck, revealing two pronounced Fermi surface reconstruction processes without spontaneous symmetry breaking, textit{i.e.} Lifshitz transitions, at around 20 K and 60 K, respectively. Using quantum oscillations of magnetoresistance and magnetic susceptibility, supported by density-functional theory calculations, we determined that the main hole Fermi surface of TaSb$_{2}$ forms a unique shoulder structure along the $F-L$ line. The flat band top of this shoulder pocket is just a few meV above the Fermi level, leading to the observed topological phase transition at 20 K when the shoulder pocket disappears. Further increase in temperature pushes the Fermi level to the band top of the main hole pocket, induced the second Lifshitz transition at 60 K when hole pocket vanishes completely.
Taking the pseudobinary C15 Laves phase compound Ce(Fe$_{0.96}$Al$_{0.04}$)$_2$ as a paradigm for studying a ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition, we present interesting thermomagnetic history effects in magnetotransport as well as mag netisation measurements across this phase transition. A comparison is made with history effects observed across the ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition in R$_{0.5}$Sr$_{0.5}$MnO$_3$ crystals.
Studies of superconductivity in multiband correlated electronic systems has become one of the central topics in condensed matter/materials physics. In this paper, we present the results of thermodynamic measurements on the superconducting filled skut terudite system Pr$_{1-x}$Ce$_x$Pt$_4$Ge$_{12}$ ($ 0 leq x leq 0.2$) to investigate how substitution of Ce at Pr sites affects superconductivity. We find that an increase in Ce concentration leads to a suppression of the superconducting transition temperature from $T_{c}sim 7.9$ K for $x=0$ to $T_csim 0.6$ K for $x=0.14$. Our analysis of the specific heat data for $xleq 0.07$ reveals that superconductivity must develop in at least two bands: the superconducting order parameter has nodes on one Fermi pocket and remains fully gapped on the other. Both the nodal and nodeless gap values decrease, with the nodal gap being suppressed more strongly, with Ce substitution. Ultimately, the higher Ce concentration samples ($x>0.07$) display a nodeless gap only.
