We introduce the notion of stochastic product as a binary operation on the convex set of quantum states (the density operators) that preserves the convex structure, and we investigate its main consequences. We consider, in particular, stochastic products that are covariant wrt a symmetry action of a locally compact group. We then construct an interesting class of group-covariant, associative stochastic products, the so-called twirled stochastic products. Every binary operation in this class is generated by a triple formed by a square integrable projective representation of a locally compact group, by a probability measure on that group and by a fiducial density operator acting in the carrier Hilbert space of the representation. The salient properties of such a product are studied. It is argued, in particular, that, extending this binary operation from the density operators to the whole Banach space of trace class operators, this space becomes a Banach algebra, a so-called twirled stochastic algebra. This algebra is shown to be commutative in the case where the relevant group is abelian. In particular, the commutative stochastic products generated by the Weyl system are treated in detail. Finally, the physical interpretation of twirled stochastic products and various interesting connections with the literature are discussed.

We derive an adiabatic theory for a stochastic differential equation, $ varepsilon, mathrm{d} X(s) = L_1(s) X(s), mathrm{d} s + sqrt{varepsilon} L_2(s) X(s) , mathrm{d} B_s, $ under a condition that instantaneous stationary states of $L_1(s)$ are als o stationary states of $L_2(s)$. We use our results to derive the full statistics of tunneling for a driven stochastic Schr{o}dinger equation describing a dephasing process.
In the present paper we investigate the set $Sigma_J$ of all $J$-self-adjoint extensions of a symmetric operator $S$ with deficiency indices $<2,2>$ which commutes with a non-trivial fundamental symmetry $J$ of a Krein space $(mathfrak{H}, [cdot, cdot ])$, SJ=JS. Our aim is to describe different types of $J$-self-adjoint extensions of $S$. One of our main results is the equivalence between the presence of $J$-self-adjoint extensions of $S$ with empty resolvent set and the commutation of $S$ with a Clifford algebra ${mathcal C}l_2(J,R)$, where $R$ is an additional fundamental symmetry with $JR=-RJ$. This enables one to construct the collection of operators $C_{chi,omega}$ realizing the property of stable $C$-symmetry for extensions $AinSigma_J$ directly in terms of ${mathcal C}l_2(J,R)$ and to parameterize the corresponding subset of extensions with stable $C$-symmetry. Such a situation occurs naturally in many applications, here we discuss the case of an indefinite Sturm-Liouville operator on the real line and a one dimensional Dirac operator with point interaction.

We define an interesting class of semigroups of operators in Banach spaces, namely, the randomly generated semigroups. This class contains as a remarkable subclass a special type of quantum dynamical semigroups introduced by Kossakowski in the early 1970s. Each randomly generated semigroup is associated, in a natural way, with a pair formed by a representation or an antirepresentation of a locally compact group in a Banach space and by a convolution semigroup of probability measures on this group. Examples of randomly generated semigroups having important applications in physics are briefly illustrated.
We introduce quantum Markov states (QMS) in a general tree graph $G= (V, E)$, extending the Cayley trees case. We investigate the Markov property w.r.t. the finer structure of the considered tree. The main result of this paper concerns the diagonaliz ability of a locally faithful QMS $varphi$ on a UHF-algebra $mathcal A_V$ over the considered tree by means of a suitable conditional expectation into a maximal abelian subalgebra. Namely, we prove the existence of a Umegaki conditional expectation $mathfrak E : mathcal A_V to mathcal D_V$ such that $$varphi = varphi_{lceil mathcal D_V}circ mathfrak E.$$ Moreover, we clarify the Markovian structure of the associated classical measure on the spectrum of the diagonal algebra $mathcal D_V$.
We study the entropy of pure shift-invariant states on a quantum spin chain. Unlike the classical case, the local restrictions to intervals of length $N$ are typically mixed and have therefore a non-zero entropy $S_N$ which is, moreover, monotonicall y increasing in $N$. We are interested in the asymptotics of the total entropy. We investigate in detail a class of states derived from quasi-free states on a CAR algebra. These are characterised by a measurable subset of the unit interval. As the entropy density is known to vanishes, $S_N$ is sublinear in $N$. For states corresponding to unions of finitely many intervals, $S_N$ is shown to grow slower than $(log N)^2$. Numerical calculations suggest a $log N$ behaviour. For the case with infinitely many intervals, we present a class of states for which the entropy $S_N$ increases as $N^alpha$ where $alpha$ can take any value in $(0,1)$.
