We study irradiated two-dimensional insulating bilayer honeycomb ferromagnets and antiferromagnets coupled antiferromagnetically with a zero net magnetization. The former is realized in the recently synthesized bilayer honeycomb chromium triiodide CrI$_{bf 3}$. In both systems, we show that circularly-polarized electric field breaks time-reversal symmetry and induces a dynamical Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in each honeycomb layer. However, the resulting bilayer antiferromagnetic system still preserves a combination of time-reversal and space-inversion ($mathcal{PT}$) symmetry. We show that the magnon topology of the bilayer antiferromagnetic system is characterized by a $pmb{mathbb{Z}_2}$ Floquet topological invariant. Therefore, the system realizes a magnonic Floquet quantum spin Hall insulator with spin filtered magnon edge states. This leads to a non-vanishing Floquet magnon spin Nernst effect, whereas the Floquet magnon thermal Hall effect vanishes due to $mathcal{PT}$ symmetry. We study the rich $pmb{mathbb{Z}_2}$ Floquet topological magnon phase diagram of the system as a function of the light amplitudes and polarizations. We further discuss the great impact of the results on future experimental realizations.

The Casimir effect is a general phenomenon in physics, which arises when the vacuum fluctuation of an arbitrary field is modified by static or slowly varying boundary. However, its spin version is rarely addressed, mainly due to the fact that a macro scopic boundary in quantum spin systems is hard to define. In this article, we explore the spin Casimir effect induced by the zero-point fluctuation of spin waves in a general non-collinear ordered quantum antiferromagnet. This spin Casimir effect results in a spin torque between local spins and further causes various singular and divergent results in the framework of spin-wave theory, which invalidate the standard $1/S$ expansion procedure. To avoid this dilemma, we develop a self-consistent spin-wave expansion approach, which preserves the spin-wave expansion away from singularities and divergence. A detailed spin-wave analysis of the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on a spatially anisotropic triangular lattice is undertaken within our approach. Our results indicate that the spiral order is only stable in the region $0.5<alpha<1.2$, where $alpha$ is the ratio of the coupling constants. In addition, the instability in the region $1.2<alpha<2$ is owing to the spin Casimir effect instead of the vanishing sublattice magnetization. And this extended spiral instable region may host some quantum disordered phases besides the quantum order by disorder induced Neel phase. Furthermore, our method provides an efficient and convenient tool that can estimate the correct exchange parameters and outline the quantum phase diagrams, which can be useful for experimental fitting processes in frustrated quantum magnets.

We introduce the magnonic Floquet Hofstadter butterfly in the two-dimensional insulating honeycomb ferromagnet. We show that when the insulating honeycomb ferromagnet is irradiated by an oscillating space- and time-dependent electric field, the hoppi ng magnetic dipole moment (i.e. magnon quasiparticles) accumulate the Aharonov-Casher phase. In the case of only space-dependent electric field, we realize the magnonic Hofstadter spectrum with similar fractal structure as graphene subject to a perpendicular magnetic field, but with no spin degeneracy due to broken time-reversal symmetry by the ferromagnetic order. In addition, the magnonic Dirac points and Landau levels occur at finite energy as expected in a bosonic system. Remarkably, this discrepancy does not affect the topological invariant of the system. Consequently, the magnonic Chern number assumes odd values and the magnon Hall conductance gets quantized by odd integers. In the case of both space- and time-dependent electric field, the theoretical framework is studied by the Floquet formalism. We show that the magnonic Floquet Hofstadter spectrum emerges entirely from the oscillating space- and time-dependent electric field, which is in stark contrast to electronic Floquet Hofstadter spectrum, where irradiation by circularly polarized light and a perpendicular magnetic field are applied independently. We study the deformation of the fractal structure at different laser frequencies and amplitudes, and analyze the topological phase transitions associated with gap openings in the magnonic Floquet Hofstadter butterfly.
The physics of a junction composed of a normal metal, quantum dot and 2D topological insulator (in a quantum spin Hall state) is elucidated. It maifests a subtle combination of Kondo correlations and quantum spin Hall edge states moving on the opposi te sides of the 2D topological insulator. In a narrow strip geometry these edge states interact and a gap opens in the edge state spectrum. Consequently, Kondo screening is less effective and that affects electron transport through the junction. Specifically, when edge state coupling is strong enough, the tunneling differential conductance develops a dip at zero temperature instead of the standard zero bias Kondo peak.
Recent studies revealed that the electric multipole moments of insulators result in fractional electric charges localized to the hinges and corners of the sample. We here explore the magnetic analog of this relation. We show that a collinear antiferr omagnet with spin $S$ defined on a $d$-dimensional cubic lattice features fractionally quantized magnetization $M_{text{c}}^z=S/2^d$ at the corners. We find that the quantization is robust even in the presence of gapless excitations originating from the spontaneous formation of the Neel order, although the localization length diverges, suggesting a power-law localization of the corner magnetization. When the spin rotational symmetry about the $z$ axis is explicitly broken, the corner magnetization is no longer sharply quantized. Even in this case, we numerically find that the deviation from the quantized value is negligibly small based on quantum Monte Carlo simulations.
We study spin-wave interactions in quantum antiferromagnets by expressing the usual magnon annihilation and creation operators in terms of Hermitian field operators representing transverse staggered and ferromagnetic spin fluctuations. In this parame terization, which was anticipated by Anderson in 1952, the two-body interaction vertex between staggered spin fluctuations vanishes at long wavelengths. We derive a new effective action for the staggered fluctuations only by tracing out the ferromagnetic fluctuations. To one loop order, the renormalization group flow agrees with the nonlinear-$sigma$-model approach.
