We study multi-stream transmission in the $K times N times K$ channel with interfering relay nodes, consisting of $K$ multi-antenna source--destination (S--D) pairs and $N$ single-antenna half-duplex relay nodes between the S--D pairs. We propose a new achievable scheme operating with partial effective channel gain, termed multi-stream opportunistic network decoupling (MS-OND), which achieves the optimal degrees of freedom (DoF) under a certain relay scaling law. Our protocol is built upon the conventional OND that leads to virtual full-duplex mode with one data stream transmission per S--D pair, generalizing the idea of OND to multi-stream scenarios by leveraging relay selection and interference management. Specifically, two subsets of relay nodes are opportunistically selected using alternate relaying in terms of producing or receiving the minimum total interference level. For interference management, each source node sends $S ,(1 le S le M)$ data streams to selected relay nodes with random beamforming for the first hop, while each destination node receives its desired $S$ streams from the selected relay nodes via opportunistic interference alignment for the second hop, where $M$ is the number of antennas at each source or destination node. Our analytical results are validated by numerical evaluation.

We study a cooperative network with a buffer-aided multi-antenna source, multiple half-duplex (HD) buffer-aided relays and a single destination. Such a setup could represent a cellular downlink scenario, in which the source can be a more powerful wir eless device with a buffer and multiple antennas, while a set of intermediate less powerful devices are used as relays to reach the destination. The main target is to recover the multiplexing loss of the network by having the source and a relay to simultaneously transmit their information to another relay and the destination, respectively. Successive transmissions in such a cooperative network, however, cause inter-relay interference (IRI). First, by assuming global channel state information (CSI), we show that the detrimental effect of IRI can be alleviated by precoding at the source, mitigating or even fully cancelling the interference. A cooperative relaying policy is proposed that employs a joint precoding design and relay-pair selection. Note that both fixed rate and adaptive rate transmissions can be considered. For the case when channel state information is only available at the receiver side (CSIR), we propose a relay selection policy that employs a phase alignment technique to reduce the IRI. The performance of the two proposed relay pair selection policies are evaluated and compared with other state-of-the-art relaying schemes in terms of outage and throughput. The results show that the use of a powerful source can provide considerable performance improvements.
We consider the opportunistic multiuser diversity in the multiuser two-way amplify-and-forward (AF) relay channel. The relay, equipped with multiple antennas and a simple zero-forcing beam-forming scheme, selects a set of two way relaying user pairs to enhance the degree of freedom (DoF) and consequently the sum throughput of the system. The proposed channel aligned pair scheduling (CAPS) algorithm reduces the inter-pair interference and keeps the signal to interference plus noise power ratio (SINR) of user pairs relatively interference free in average sense when the number of user pairs become very large. For ideal situations, where the number of user pairs grows faster than the system signal to noise ratio (SNR), the DoF of $M$ per channel use can be achieved when $M$ is the relay antenna size. With a limited number of pairs, the system is overloaded and the sum rates saturate at high signal to noise ratio (SNR) though modifications of CAPS can improve the performance to a certain amount. The performance of CAPS can be further enhanced by semi-orthogonal channel aligned pair scheduling (SCAPS) algorithm, which not only aligns the pair channels but also forms semi-orthogonal inter-pair channels. Simulation results show that we provide a set of approaches based on (S)CAPS and modified (S)CAPS, which provides system performance benefit depending on the SNR and the number of user pairs in the network.
This paper studies low-latency streaming codes for the multi-hop network. The source is transmitting a sequence of messages (streaming messages) to a destination through a chain of relays where each hop is subject to packet erasures. Every source mes sage has to be recovered perfectly at the destination within a delay constraint of $T$ time slots. In any sliding window of $T+1$ time slots, we assume no more than $N_j$ erasures introduced by the $j$th hop channel. The capacity in case of a single relay (a three-node network) was derived by Fong [1], et al. While the converse derived for the three-node case can be extended to any number of nodes using a similar technique (analyzing the case where erasures on other links are consecutive), we demonstrate next that the achievable scheme, which suggested a clever symbol-wise decode and forward strategy, can not be straightforwardly extended without a loss in performance. The coding scheme for the three-node network, which was shown to achieve the upper bound, was ``state-independent (i.e., it does not depend on specific erasure pattern). While this is a very desirable property, in this paper, we suggest a ``state-dependent (i.e., a scheme which depends on specific erasure pattern) and show that it achieves the upper bound up to the size of an additional header. Since, as we show, the size of the header does not depend on the field size, the gap between the achievable rate and the upper bound decreases as the field size increases.

In this paper, we adopt the relay selection (RS) protocol proposed by Bletsas, Khisti, Reed and Lippman (2006) with Enhanced Dynamic Decode-and-Forward (EDDF) and network coding (NC) system in a two-hop two-way multi-relay network. All nodes are sing le-input single-output (SISO) and half-duplex, i.e., they cannot transmit and receive data simultaneously. The outage probability is analyzed and we show comparisons of outage probability with various scenarios under Rayleigh fading channel. Our results show that the relay selection with EDDF and network coding (RS-EDDF&NC) scheme has the best performance in the sense of outage probability upon the considered decode-and-forward (DF) relaying if there exist sufficiently relays. In addition, the performance loss is large if we select a relay at random. This shows the importance of relay selection strategies.
In this paper we study the relay-interference wireless network, in which relay (helper) nodes are to facilitate competing information flows over a wireless network. We examine this in the context of a deterministic wireless interaction model, which e liminates the channel noise and focuses on the signal interactions. Using this model, we show that almost all the known schemes such as interference suppression, interference alignment and interference separation are necessary for relay-interference networks. In addition, we discover a new interference management technique, which we call interference neutralization, which allows for over-the-air interference removal, without the transmitters having complete access the interfering signals. We show that interference separation, suppression, and neutralization arise in a fundamental manner, since we show complete characterizations for special configurations of the relay-interference network.
