We propose a viable minimal model with spontaneous CP violation in the framework of a Two Higgs Doublet Model. The model is based on a generalised Branco-Grimus-Lavoura model with a flavoured $mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry, under which two of the quark families are even and the third one is odd. The lagrangian respects CP invariance, but the vacuum has a CP violating phase, which is able to generate a complex CKM matrix, with the rephasing invariant strength of CP violation compatible with experiment. The question of scalar mediated flavour changing neutral couplings is carefully studied. In particular we point out a deep connection between the generation of a complex CKM matrix from a vacuum phase and the appearance of scalar FCNC. The scalar sector is presented in detail, showing that the new scalars are necessarily lighter than 1 TeV. A complete analysis of the model including the most relevant constraints is performed, showing that it is viable and that it has definite implications for the observation of New Physics signals in, for example, flavour changing Higgs decays or the discovery of the new scalars at the LHC. We give special emphasis to processes like $tto {rm h} c,{rm h} u$, as well as ${rm h}to bs, bd$, which are relevant for the LHC and the ILC.

We propose that the CP violating phase in the CKM mixing matrix is identical to the CP phases responsible for the spontaneous CP violation in the Higgs potential. A specific multi-Higgs model with Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry is constructed to realize this idea. The CP violating phase does not vanish when all Higgs masses become large. There are flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) interactions mediated by neutral Higgs bosons at the tree level. However, unlike general multi-Higgs models, the FCNC Yukawa couplings are fixed in terms of the quark masses and CKM mixing angles. Implications for meson-anti-meson mixing, including recent data on $D-bar D$ mixing, and neutron electric dipole moment (EDM) are studied. We find that the neutral Higgs boson masses can be at the order of one hundred GeV. The neutron EDM can be close to the present experimental upper bound.
We introduce the CP violating scalar leptoquark $S_3$ to explain the measured values of the lepton universality ratios $R_{K^{(*)}}$. We derive constraints on the CP-even and CP-odd components of the leptoquark Yukawa couplings stemming from effects in $b to s mu mu$ and $B_s$ mixing. For the $b to s mu mu$ processes we impose $R_{K^{(*)}}$, $mathcal{B}(B_s to mu^+ mu^-)$, as well as CP-sensitive angular asymmetries $A_{7,8,9}$, whereas in the $B_s$ mixing sector $Delta M_s$ and $S_{psiphi}$ are considered. Combining the constraints within the $S_3$ model reveals that a large CP phase with a definite sign is perfectly viable for a leptoquark of mass below a few TeV. For larger mass of the $S_3$ leptoquark the CP phase is suppressed due to the observables pertaining to the $B_s$ system. We provide predictions of direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetries in $B to K mu mu$ that could reveal the presence of the novel CP phase.

Using the seesaw mechanism, we construct a model for the light-neutrino Majorana mass matrix which yields trimaximal lepton mixing together with maximal CP violation and maximal atmospheric-neutrino mixing. We demonstrate that, in our model, the ligh t-neutrino mass matrix retains its form under the one-loop renormalization-group evolution. With our neutrino mass matrix, the absolute neutrino mass scale is a function of |U_e3| and of the atmospheric mass-squared difference. We study the effective mass in neutrinoless double beta-decay as a function of |U_e3|, showing that it contains a fourfold ambiguity.

We investigate the impact of light ($sim$ eV) sterile neutrinos in the long-baseline experiment T2K. We show that, within the 3+1 scheme, for mass-mixing parameters suggested by the short-baseline anomalies, the interference among the sterile and the atmospheric oscillation frequencies induces a new term in the $ u_mu to u_e$ transition probability, which has the same order of magnitude of the standard 3-flavor solar-atmospheric interference term. We show, for the first time, that current T2K data, taken together with the results of the $theta_{13}$-dedicated reactor experiments, are sensitive to two of the three CP-violating phases involved in the 3+1 scheme. Both the standard CP-phase and the new one ($delta_{13} equiv delta$ and $delta_{14}$ in our parameterization choice) tend to have a common best fit value $delta_{13} simeq delta_{14} simeq -pi/2$. Quite intriguingly, the inclusion of sterile neutrino effects leads to better agreement between the two estimates of $theta_{13}$ obtained, respectively, from reactors and T2K, which in the 3-flavor framework are slightly different.

The LHC is the new b-hadron factory and will be dominating flavour physics until the start of Belle II, and beyond in many decay modes. While the $B$ factories and Tevatron experiments are still analysing their data, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb are producing interesting new results in CP violation and rare decays, that set strong constraints on models beyond that SM and exhibit some discrepancies with the SM predictions. The LHCb collaboration used the LHC 50 ns ramp-up period of July 2015 to measure the double-differential $J/psi$, $J/psi$-from-$b$-hadron and charm cross-sections at $sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. Both measurements were performed directly on triggered candidates using a reduced data format that does not require offline processing.
