For a generic vector field robustly without horseshoes, and an aperiodic chain recurrent class with singularities whose saddle values have different signs, the extended rescaled Poincare map is associated with a central model. We estimate such central model and show it must have chain recurrent central segments over the singularities. This obstructs the application of central model to create horseshoes, and indicates that, differing from $C^1$ diffeomorphisms, solo using central model method is insufficient as a strategy to prove weak Palis conjecture for higher dimensional ($geq 4$) singular flows. Our computation is actually based on simplified way of addressing blowup construction. As a byproduct, we are applicable to directly compute the extended rescaled Poincare map upto second order derivatives, which we believe has its independent interests.

In this short note we report on results on a computational search for a counterexample to the strong coincidence conjecture. In particular, we discuss the method used so that further searches can be conducted.

We study one-loop divergences in Einstein-Maxwell theory and their implications for the weak gravity conjecture. In particular, we show that renormalization of these divergences leads to positivity of higher-derivative corrections to the charge-to-ma ss ratio of dyonic black holes. This allows charged extremal black holes to decay into smaller ones, and so the weak gravity conjecture is automatically satisfied. We also extend this analysis to a much wider class of Einstein-Maxwell theories coupled to additional massless matter fields and find the same result. We then go on to study one-loop divergences in $mathcal{N} geq 2$ supergravity and show that dyonic black holes in these theories are protected against one-loop quantum corrections, even if the black hole breaks supersymmetry. In particular, extremal dyonic black holes are stabilized by supersymmetry and cannot decay.

After recalling the various tautological algebras of the moduli space of curves and some of its partial compactifications and stating several well-known results and conjectures concerning these algebras, we prove that the natural extension to the cas e of pointed curves of a 1996 conjecture of Hain and Looijenga is true if and only if two of the stated conjectures are true.
We present a new 3D lattice Boltzmann (LB) algorithm based on central moments for the D3Q27 lattice using a cuboid grid, which is parameterized by two grid aspect ratios that are related to the ratios of the particle speeds with respect to that along a reference coordinate direction. The use of the cuboid lattice grid enables the method to compute flows having different characteristic length scales in different directions more efficiently. It is constructed to simulate the Navier-Stokes equations consistently via introducing counteracting corrections to the second order moment equilibria obtained via a Chapman-Enskog analysis that eliminate the errors associated with the grid anisotropy and the non-Galilean invariant terms. The implementation is shown to be compact and modular, with an interpretation based on special matrices, admitting ready extension of the standard algorithm for the cubic lattice to the cuboid lattice via appropriate scaling of moments based on grid aspect ratios before and after collision step and equilibria corrections. The resulting formulation is general in that the same grid corrections developed for the D3Q27 lattice for recovering the correct viscous stress tensor is applicable for other lattice subsets, and a variety of collision models, including those based on the relaxation of raw moments, central moments and cumulants, as well as their special case involving the distribution functions. The cuboid central moment LBM is validated against a variety of benchmark flows, and when used in lieu of the corresponding raw moment formulation for simulating shear flows, we show that it results in significant improvements in numerical stability. Finally, we demonstrate that our cuboid LB approach is efficient in simulating anisotropic shear flow problems with significant savings in computational cost and memory storage when compared to that based on the cubic lattice.
We study local activity and its opposite, local passivity, for linear systems and show that generically an eigenvalue of the system matrix with positive real part implies local activity. If all state variables are port variables we prove that the sys tem is locally active if and only if the system matrix is not dissipative. Local activity was suggested by Leon Chua as an indicator for the emergence of complexity of nonlinear systems. We propose an abstract scheme which indicates how local activity could be applied to nonlinear systems and list open questions about possible consequences for complexity.
