The quantum Langevin formalism is used to study the charge carrier transport in a twodimensional sample. The center of mass of charge carriers is visualized as a quantum particle, while an environment acts as a heat bath coupled to it through the particle-phonon interaction. The dynamics of the charge carriers is limited by the average collision time which takes effectively into account the two-body effects. The functional dependencies of particle-phonon interaction and average collision time on the temperature and magnetic field are phenomenologically treated. The galvano-magnetic and thermo-magnetic effects in the quantum system appear as the result of the transitional processes at low temperatures.

The non-Markovian dynamics of a charged particle linearly coupled to a neutral bosonic heat bath is investigated in an external uniform magnetic field. The analytical expressions for the time-dependent and asymptotic friction and diffusion coefficien ts, cyclotron frequencies, variances of the coordinate and momentum, and orbital magnetic moments are derived. The role of magnetic field in the dissipation and diffusion processes is illustrated by several examples in the low- and high-temperature regimes. The localization phenomenon for a charged particle is observed. The orbital diamagnetism of quantum system in a dissipative environment is studied. The quantization conditions are found for the angular momentum.
We report the design and development of a piezoelectric sample rotation system, and its integration into an Oxford Instruments Kelvinox 100 dilution refrigerator, for orientation-dependent studies of quantum transport in semiconductor nanodevices at millikelvin temperatures in magnetic fields up to 10T. Our apparatus allows for continuous in situ rotation of a device through >100deg in two possible configurations. The first enables rotation of the field within the plane of the device, and the second allows the field to be rotated from in-plane to perpendicular to the device plane. An integrated angle sensor coupled with a closed-loop feedback system allows the device orientation to be known to within +/-0.03deg whilst maintaining the sample temperature below 100mK.
One long-standing difficult problem in quantum dissipative dynamics is to solve the spin-boson model in a non-Markovian regime where a tractable systematic master equation does not exist. The spin-boson model is particularly important due to its cruc ial applications in quantum noise control and manipulation as well as its central role in developing quantum theories of open systems. Here we solve this important model by developing a non-Markovian quantum Langevin approach. By projecting the quantum Langevin equation onto the coherent states of the bath, we can derivie a set of non-Markovian quantum Bloch equations containing no explicit noise variables. This special feature offers a tremendous advantage over the existing stochastic Schrodinger equations in numerical simulations. The physical significance and generality of our approach are briefly discussed.

We study measures of decoherence and thermalization of a quantum system $S$ in the presence of a quantum environment (bath) $E$. The whole system is prepared in a canonical thermal state at a finite temperature. Applying perturbation theory with resp ect to the system-environment coupling strength, we find that under common Hamiltonian symmetries, up to first order in the coupling strength it is sufficient to consider the uncoupled system to predict decoherence and thermalization measures of $S$. This decoupling allows closed form expressions for perturbative expansions for the measures of decoherence and thermalization in terms of the free energies of $S$ and of $E$. Numerical results for both coupled and decoupled systems with up to 40 quantum spins validate these findings.
We discuss how to derive a Langevin equation (LE) in non standard systems, i.e. when the kinetic part of the Hamiltonian is not the usual quadratic function. This generalization allows to consider also cases with negative absolute temperature. We fir st give some phenomenological arguments suggesting the shape of the viscous drift, replacing the usual linear viscous damping, and its relation with the diffusion coefficient modulating the white noise term. As a second step, we implement a procedure to reconstruct the drift and the diffusion term of the LE from the time-series of the momentum of a heavy particle embedded in a large Hamiltonian system. The results of our reconstruction are in good agreement with the phenomenological arguments. Applying the method to systems with negative temperature, we can observe that also in this case there is a suitable Langevin equation, obtained with a precise protocol, able to reproduce in a proper way the statistical features of the slow variables. In other words, even in this context, systems with negative temperature do not show any pathology.
