An experiment for $p(^{14}rm{C}$,$^{14}rm{C}^{*}rightarrow^{10}rm{Be}+alpha)mathit{p}$ inelastic excitation and decay was performed in inverse kinematics at a beam energy of 25.3 MeV/u. A series of $^{14}rm{C}$ excited states, including a new one at 18.3(1) MeV, were observed which decay to various states of the final nucleus of $^{10}rm{Be}$. A specially designed telescope-system, installed around the zero degree, played an essential role in detecting the resonant states near the $alpha$-separation threshold. A state at 14.1(1) MeV is clearly identified, being consistent with the predicted band-head of the molecular rotational band characterized by the $pi$-bond linear-chain-configuration. Further clarification of the properties of this exotic state is suggested by using appropriate reaction tools.

Excitation-energy spectra of $^{11}$C nuclei near the $eta^prime$-meson production threshold have been measured by missing-mass spectroscopy using the $^{12}$C($p$,$d$) reaction. A carbon target has been irradiated with a 2.5 GeV proton beam supplied by the synchrotron SIS-18 at GSI to produce $eta^prime$ meson bound states in $^{11}$C nuclei. Deuterons emitted at $0^circ$ in the reaction have been momentum-analyzed by the fragment separator (FRS) used as a high-resolution spectrometer. No distinct structure due to the formation of $eta^prime$-mesic states is observed although a high statistical sensitivity is achieved in the experimental spectra. Upper limits on the formation cross sections of $eta^prime$-mesic states are determined, and thereby a constraint imposed on the $eta^prime$-nucleus interaction is discussed.

A cluster-transfer experiment of $^9rm{Be}(^9rm{Be},^{14}rm{C}rightarrowalpha+^{10}rm{Be})alpha$ at an incident energy of 45 MeV was carried out in order to investigate the molecular structure in high-lying resonant states in $^{14}$C. This reaction is of extremely large $Q$-value, making it an excellent case to select the reaction mechanism and the final states in outgoing nuclei. The high-lying resonances in $^{14}$C are reconstructed for three sets of well discriminated final states in $^{10}$Be. The results confirm the previous decay measurements with clearly improved decay-channel selections and show also a new state at 23.5(1) MeV. The resonant states at 22.4(3) and 24.0(3) MeV decay primarily into the typical molecular states at about 6 MeV in $^{10}$Be, indicating a well developed cluster structure in these high-lying states in $^{14}$C. Further measurements of more states of this kind are suggested.
A resonant state at $3.21^{+0.12}_{-0.04}$,MeV, located just above the one-neutron separation threshold, was observed for the first time in $^{12}$Be from the $^{11}$Be,$(d,p)^{12}$Be one-neutron transfer reaction in inverse kinematics. This state is assigned a spin-parity of $0^-$, according to the distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) and decay-width analysis. Gamow coupled-channel (GCC) and Gamow shell-model (GSM) calculations show the importance of the continuum-coupling, which dramatically influences the excitation energy and ordering of low-lying states. Various exotic structures associated with cross-shell intruding configurations in $^{12}$Be and in its isotonic nucleus $^{11}$Li are comparably discussed.
Excitation spectra of $^{11}$C were measured in the $^{12}$C$(p,d)$ reaction near the $eta$ emission threshold. A proton beam extracted from the synchrotron SIS-18 at GSI with an incident energy of 2.5 GeV impinged on a carbon target. The momenta of deuterons emitted at 0 degrees were precisely measured with the fragment separator FRS operated as a spectrometer. In contrast to theoretical predictions on the possible existence of deeply bound $eta$ mesic states in carbon nuclei, no distinct structures were observed associated with the formation of bound states. The spectra were analyzed to set stringent constraints on the formation cross section and on the hitherto barely-known $eta$-nucleus interaction.

We investigate structure of $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$ and discuss the difference and similarity between the structures of $^{12}{rm C}$ and $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$ by answering the questions if the linear-chain and gaslike cluster states, which are proposed to appear in $^{12}{rm C}$, survives, or new structure states appear or not. We introduce a microscopic cluster model called, Hyper-Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Ropke (H-THSR) wave function, which is an extended version of the THSR wave function so as to describe $Lambda$ hypernuclei. We obtained two bound states and two resonance (quasi-bound) states for $J^pi=0^+$ in $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$, corresponding to the four $0^+$ states in $^{12}{rm C}$. However, the inversion of level ordering between the spectra of $^{12}{rm C}$ and $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$, i.e. that the $0_3^+$ and $0_4^+$ states in $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$ correspond to the $0_4^+$ and $0_3^+$ states in $^{12}{rm C}$, respectively, is shown to occur. The additional $Lambda$ particle reduces sizes of the $0_2^+$ and $0_3^+$ states in $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$ very much, but the shrinkage of the $0_4^+$ state is only a half of the other states. In conclusion, the Hoyle state becomes quite a compact object with ${^{9}_Lambda{rm Be}}+alpha$ configuration in $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$ and is no more gaslike state composed of the $3alpha$ clusters. Instead, the $0_4^+$ state in $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$, coming from the $^{12}{rm C}(0_3^+)$ state, appears as a gaslike state composed of $alpha+alpha+^{5}_Lambda{rm He}$ configuration, i.e. the Hoyle analog state. A linear-chain state in a $Lambda$ hypernucleus is for the first time predicted to exist as the $0_3^+$ state in $^{13}_Lambda{rm C}$ with more shrunk arrangement of the $3alpha$ clusters along $z$-axis than the $3alpha$ linear-chain configuration realized in the $^{12}{rm C}(0_4^+)$ state.
