We analyze 3-loop contributions to the gauge coupling felt by ultrasoft (magnetostatic) modes in hot Yang-Mills theory. So-called soft/hard terms, originating from dimension-six operators within the soft effective theory, are shown to cancel 1097/1098 of the IR divergence found in a recent determination of the hard 3-loop contribution to the soft gauge coupling. The remaining 1/1098 originates from ultrasoft/hard contributions, induced by dimension-six operators in the ultrasoft effective theory. Soft 3-loop contributions are likewise computed, and are found to be IR divergent, rendering the ultrasoft gauge coupling non-perturbative at relative order O(alphas^{3/2}). We elaborate on the implications of these findings for effective theory studies of physical observables in thermal QCD.

This talk offers a brief review of the determination of coupling constants in the framework of dimensionally reduced effective field theories for thermal QCD, specializing on its gluonic sector. Interestingly, higher-order operators that go beyond th e usual super-renormalizable truncation of the effective theory need to be considered when matching parameters at three loops.
In type II superstring theory, the vacuum amplitude at a given loop order $g$ can receive contributions from the boundary of the compactified, genus $g$ supermoduli space of curves $overline{mathfrak M}_g$. These contributions capture the long distan ce or infrared behaviour of the amplitude. The boundary parametrises degenerations of genus $g$ super Riemann surfaces. A holomorphic projection of the supermoduli space onto its reduced space would then provide a way to integrate the holomorphic, superstring measure and thereby give the superstring vacuum amplitude at $g$-loop order. However, such a projection does not generally exist over the bulk of the supermoduli spaces in higher genera. Nevertheless, certain boundary divisors in $partialoverline{mathfrak M}_g$ may holomorphically map onto a bosonic space upon composition with universal morphisms, thereby enabling an integration of the holomorphic, superstring measure here. Making use of ansatz factorisations of the superstring measure near the boundary, our analysis shows that the boundary contributions to the three loop vacuum amplitude will vanish in closed oriented type II superstring theory with unbroken spacetime supersymmetry.

We have computed the fourth-order nf^2 contributions to all three non-singlet quark-quark splitting functions and their four nf^3 flavour-singlet counterparts for the evolution of the parton distributions of hadrons in perturbative QCD with nf effect ively massless quark flavours. The analytic form of these functions is presented in both Mellin N-space and momentum-fraction x-space; the large-x and small-x limits are discussed. Our results agree with all available predictions derived from lower-order information. The large-x limit of the quark-quark cases provides the complete nf^2 part of the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension which agrees with two recent partial computations.
High-order perturbative calculations for thermodynamic quantities in QCD are complicated by the physics of dynamical screening that affects the soft, long-wavelength modes of the system. Here, we provide details for the evaluation of this soft contri bution to the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (NNNLO) pressure of high-density, zero-temperature quark matter (QM), complementing our accompanying paper in arXiv:2103.05658. Our calculation requires the determination of the pressure of the hard-thermal-loop (HTL) effective theory to full two-loop order at zero temperature, which we go through in considerable detail. In addition to this, we comprehensively discuss the structure of the weak-coupling expansion of the QM pressure, and lay out a roadmap towards the evaluation of the contributions missing from a full NNNLO result for this quantity.
We present the first calculations of next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N^4LO) contributions to anomalous dimensions of spin-N twist-2 operators in perturbative QCD. Specifically, we have obtained the respective non-singlet quark-quark an omalous dimensions at N=2 and N=3 to the fifth order in the strong coupling alpha_s. These results set the scale for the N^4LO contributions to the evolution of the non-singlet quark distributions of hadrons outside the small-x region, and facilitate a first approximate determination of the five-loop cusp anomalous dimension. While the N^4LO coefficients are larger than expected from the lower-order results, their inclusion stabilizes the perturbative expansions for three or more light flavours at a sub-percent accuracy for alpha_s < 0.3.
