The magnetic properties of dilute Li$_2$(Li$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$)N with $x sim 0.001$ are dominated by the spin of single, isolated Fe atoms. Below $T = 10$ K the spin-relaxation times become temperature-independent indicating a crossover from thermal excitations to the quantum tunneling regime. We report on a strong increase of the spin-flip probability in $textit{transverse}$ magnetic fields that proves the resonant character of this tunneling process. $textit{Longitudinal}$ fields, on the other hand, lift the ground-state degeneracy and destroy the tunneling condition. An increase of the relaxation time by four orders of magnitude in applied fields of only a few milliTesla reveals exceptionally sharp tunneling resonances. Li$_2$(Li$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$)N represents a comparatively simple and clean model system that opens the possibility to study quantum tunneling of the magnetization at liquid helium temperatures.

Three-dimensional topological insulators (3D-TIs) possess a specific topological order of electronic bands, resulting in gapless surface states via bulk-edge correspondence. Exotic phenomena have been realized in ferromagnetic TIs, such as the quantu m anomalous Hall (QAH) effect with a chiral edge conduction and a quantized value of the Hall resistance ${R_{yx}}$. Here, we report on the emergence of distinct topological phases in paramagnetic Fe-doped (Bi,Sb)${_2}$Se${_3}$ heterostructures with varying structure architecture, doping, and magnetic and electric fields. Starting from a 3D-TI, a two-dimensional insulator appears at layer thicknesses below a critical value, which turns into an Anderson insulator for Fe concentrations sufficiently large to produce localization by magnetic disorder. With applying a magnetic field, a topological transition from the Anderson insulator to the QAH state occurs, which is driven by the formation of an exchange gap owing to a giant Zeeman splitting and reduced magnetic disorder. Topological phase diagram of (Bi,Sb)${_2}$Se${_3}$ allows exploration of intricate interplay of topological protection, magnetic disorder, and exchange splitting.

We report on isothermal magnetization, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and magnetostriction as well as temperature-dependent alternating-current (ac) susceptibility, specific heat, and thermal expansion of single crystalline and polycrstalline Li$_2$(Li$_{1- x}$Fe$_x$)N with $x = 0$ and $x approx 0.30$. Magnetic hysteresis emerges at temperatures below $T approx 50,$K with coercivity fields of up to $mu_0H = 11.6,$T at $T = 2,$K and magnetic anisotropy energies of $310,$K ($27,$meV). The ac susceptibility is strongly frequency dependent ($f,=,10$--$10,000,$Hz) and reveals an effective energy barrier for spin reversal of $Delta E approx 1100,$K. The relaxation times follow Arrhenius behavior for $T > 25,$K. For $T < 10,$K, however, the relaxation times of $tau approx 10^{10},$s are only weakly temperature-dependent indicating the relevance of a quantum tunneling process instead of thermal excitations. The magnetic entropy amounts to more than $25,$J mol$^{-1}_{rm Fe},$K$^{-1}$ which significantly exceeds $R$ln2, the value expected for the entropy of a ground state doublet. Thermal expansion and magnetostriction indicate a weak magneto-elastic coupling in accordance with slow relaxation of the magnetization. The classification of Li$_2$(Li$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$)N as ferromagnet is stressed and contrasted with highly anisotropic and slowly relaxing paramagnetic behavior.
The skyrmions generated by frustration in centrosymmetric structures host extra internal degrees of freedom: vorticity and helicity, resulting in distinctive properties and potential functionality, which are not shared by the skyrmions stemming from the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in noncentrosymmetric structures. The present work indicates that the magnetism-driven electric polarization carried by skyrmions provides a direct handle for tuning helicity. Especially for the in-plane magnetized skyrmions, the helicity can be continuously rotated and exactly picked by applying an external electric field for both skyrmions and antiskyrmions. The in-plane uniaxial anisotropy is beneficial to this manipulation.

Nodal-line metals and semimetals, as interesting topological states of matter, have been mostly studied in nonmagnetic materials. Here, based on first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis, we predict that fully spin-polarized Weyl loops can be realized in the half metal state for the three-dimensional material Li$_3$(FeO$_3$)$_2$. We show that this material has a ferromagnetic ground state, and it is a half metal with only a single spin channel present near the Fermi level. The spin-up bands form two separate Weyl loops close to the Fermi level, which arise from band
We report a study of quantum oscillations in the high-field magneto-resistance of the nodal-line semimetal HfSiS. In the presence of a magnetic field up to 31 T parallel to the c-axis, we observe quantum oscillations originating both from orbits of i ndividual electron and hole pockets, and from magnetic breakdown between these pockets. In particular, we find an oscillation associated with a breakdown orbit enclosing one electron and one hole pocket in the form of a `figure of eight. This observation represents an experimental confirmation of the momentum space analog of Klein tunneling. When the c-axis and the magnetic field are misaligned with respect to one another, this oscillation rapidly decreases in intensity. Finally, we extract the cyclotron masses from the temperature dependence of the oscillations, and find that the mass of the figure of eight orbit corresponds to the sum of the individual pockets, consistent with theoretical predictions for Klein tunneling in topological semimetals.
