Potentials play an important role in solving boundary value problems for elliptic equations. In the middle of the last century, a potential theory was constructed for a two-dimensional elliptic equation with one singular coefficient. In the study of potentials, the properties of the fundamental solutions of the given equation are essentially used. At the present time, fundamental solutions of a multidimensional elliptic equation with one degeneration line are already known. In this paper, we investigate the potentials of the double- and simple-layers for this equation, with the help of which limit theorems are proved and integral equations containing in the kernel the density of the above potentials are derived.

This paper considers boundary value problems for a class of singular elliptic operators which appear naturally in the study of asymptotically anti-de Sitter (aAdS) spacetimes. These problems involve a singular Bessel operator acting in the normal dir ection. After formulating a Lopatinskii condition, elliptic estimates are established for functions supported near the boundary. The Fredholm property follows from additional hypotheses in the interior. This paper provides a rigorous framework for mode analysis on aAdS spacetimes for a wide range of boundary conditions considered in the physics literature. Completeness of eigenfunctions for some Bessel operator pencils is shown.
Let $Omega subset {mathbb R}^N$ ($N geq 3$) be a $C^2$ bounded domain and $F subset partial Omega$ be a $C^2$ submanifold of dimension $0 leq k leq N-2$. Put $delta_F(x)=dist(x,F)$, $V=delta_F^{-2}$ in $Omega$ and $L_{gamma V}=Delta + gamma V$. Denot e by $C_H(V)$ the Hardy constant relative to $V$ in $Omega$. We study positive solutions of equations (LE) $-L_{gamma V} u = 0$ and (NE) $-L_{gamma V} u+ f(u) = 0$ in $Omega$ when $gamma < C_H(V)$ and $f in C({mathbb R})$ is an odd, monotone increasing function. We establish the existence of a normalized boundary trace for positive solutions of (LE) - first studied by Marcus and Nguyen for the case $F=partial Omega$ - and employ it to investigate the behavior of subsolutions and super solutions of (LE) at the boundary. Using these results we study boundary value problems for (NE) and derive a-priori estimates. Finally we discuss subcriticality of (NE) at boundary points of $Omega$ and establish existence and stability results when the data is concentrated on the set of subcritical points.

By employing a novel generalization of the inverse scattering transform method known as the unified transform or Fokas method, it can be shown that the solution of certain physically significant boundary value problems for the elliptic sine-Gordon eq uation, as well as for the elliptic version of the Ernst equation, can be expressed in terms of the solution of appropriate $2 times 2$-matrix Riemann--Hilbert (RH) problems. These RH problems are defined in terms of certain functions, called spectral functions, which involve the given boundary conditions, but also unknown boundary values. For arbitrary boundary conditions, the determination of these unknown boundary values requires the analysis of a nonlinear Fredholm integral equation. However, there exist particular boundary conditions, called linearizable, for which it is possible to bypass this nonlinear step and to characterize the spectral functions directly in terms of the given boundary conditions. Here, we review the implementation of this effective procedure for the following linearizable boundary value problems: (a) the elliptic sine-Gordon equation in a semi-strip with zero Dirichlet boundary values on the unbounded sides and with constant Dirichlet boundary value on the bounded side; (b) the elliptic Ernst equation with boundary conditions corresponding to a uniformly rotating disk of dust; (c) the elliptic Ernst equation with boundary conditions corresponding to a disk rotating uniformly around a central black hole; (d) the elliptic Ernst equation with vanishing Neumann boundary values on a rotating disk.

Since the order of elliptic type model equation (Laplace equation) is two [1], [2], then it is natural the order of composite type model equation must be [3] [4] [5] three. At each point of the domain under consideration these equations have both rea l and complex characteristics. Notice that a boundary value problem for a composite type equation of second order first appeared in the paper [6]. The method for investigating the Fredholm property of boundary value problems is distinctive and belongs to one of the authors of the present paper.
A reaction-diffusion equation with power nonlinearity formulated either on the half-line or on the finite interval with nonzero boundary conditions is shown to be locally well-posed in the sense of Hadamard for data in Sobolev spaces. The result is e stablished via a contraction mapping argument, taking advantage of a novel approach that utilizes the formula produced by the unified transform method of Fokas for the forced linear heat equation to obtain linear estimates analogous to those previously derived for the nonlinear Schrodinger, Korteweg-de Vries and good Boussinesq equations. Thus, the present work extends the recently introduced unified transform method approach to well-posedness from dispersive equations to diffusive ones.
