Proving that the parent Hamiltonian of a Projected Entangled Pair State (PEPS) is gapped remains an important open problem. We take a step forward in solving this problem by showing two results: first, we identify an approximate factorization condition on the boundary state of rectangular subregions that is sufficient to prove that the parent Hamiltonian of the bulk 2D PEPS has a constant gap in the thermodynamic limit; second, we then show that Gibbs state of a local, finite-range Hamiltonian satisfy such condition. The proof applies to the case of injective and MPO-injective PEPS, employs the martingale method of nearly commuting projectors, and exploits a result of Araki on the robustness of one dimensional Gibbs states. Our result provides one of the first rigorous connections between boundary theories and dynamical properties in an interacting many body system.

We provide explicit formulas for the Green function of an elliptic PDE in the infinite strip and the half-plane. They are expressed in elementary and special functions. Proofs of uniqueness and existence are also given.
We study the stationary nonhomogeneous Navier--Stokes problem in a two dimensional symmetric domain with a semi-infinite outlet (for instance, either parabo-loidal or channel-like). Under the symmetry assumptions on the domain, boundary value and ext ernal force we prove the existence of at least one weak symmetric solution without any restriction on the size of the fluxes, i.e. the fluxes of the boundary value ${bf a}$ over the inner and the outer boundaries may be arbitrarily large. Only the necessary compatibility condition (the total flux is equal to zero) has to be satisfied. Moreover, the Dirichlet integral of the solution can be finite or infinite depending on the geometry of the domain.

The spectral and dynamical properties of dissipative quantum systems, as modeled by a damped oscillator in the Fock space, are investigated from a topological point of view. Unlike a physical lattice system that is naturally under the open boundary c ondition, the bounded-from-below nature of the Fock space offers a unique setting for understanding and verifying non-Hermitian skin modes under semi-infinity boundary conditions that are elusive in actual physical lattices. A topological characterization based on the complex spectra of the Liouvillian superoperator is proposed and the associated complete set of topologically protected skin modes can be identified, thus reflecting the complete bulk-boundary correspondence of point-gap topology generally absent in realistic materials. Moreover, we discover anomalous skin modes with exponential amplification even though the quantum system is purely dissipative. Our results indicate that current studies of non-Hermitian topological matter can greatly benefit research on quantum open systems and vice versa.
We explore boundary scattering in the sine-Gordon model with a non-integrable family of Robin boundary conditions. The soliton content of the field after collision is analysed using a numerical implementation of the direct scattering problem associat ed with the inverse scattering method. We find that an antikink may be reflected into various combinations of an antikink, a kink, and one or more breathers, depending on the values of the initial antikink velocity and a parameter associated with the boundary condition. In addition we observe regions with an intricate resonance structure arising from the creation of an intermediate breather whose recollision with the boundary is highly dependent on the breather phase.
As a model for the semiclassical analysis of quantum-mechanical systems with both potentials and boundary conditions, we construct the WKB propagator for a linear potential sloping away from an impenetrable boundary. First, we find all classical path s from point $y$ to point $x$ in time $t$ and calculate the corresponding action and amplitude functions. A large part of space-time turns out to be classically inaccessible, and the boundary of this region is a caustic of an unusual type, where the amplitude vanishes instead of diverging. We show that this curve is the limit of caustics in the usual sense when the reflecting boundary is approximated by steeply rising smooth potentials. Then, to improve the WKB approximation we construct the propagator for initial data in momentum space; this requires classifying the interesting variety of classical paths with initial momentum $p$ arriving at $x$ after time $t$. The two approximate propagators are compared by applying them to Gaussian initial packets by numerical integration; the results show physically expected behavior, with advantages to the momentum-based propagator in the classically forbidden regime (large $t$).
