This paper studies a recently proposed continuous-time distributed self-appraisal model with time-varying interactions among a network of $n$ individuals which are characterized by a sequence of time-varying relative interaction matrices. The model describes the evolution of the social-confidence levels of the individuals via a reflected appraisal mechanism in real time. We first show by example that when the relative interaction matrices are stochastic (not doubly stochastic), the social-confidence levels of the individuals may not converge to a steady state. We then show that when the relative interaction matrices are doubly stochastic, the $n$ individuals self-confidence levels will all converge to $1/n$, which indicates a democratic state, exponentially fast under appropriate assumptions, and provide an explicit expression of the convergence rate.

This paper considers a distributed convex optimization problem over a time-varying multi-agent network, where each agent has its own decision variables that should be set so as to minimize its individual objective subject to local constraints and glo bal coupling equality constraints. Over directed graphs, a distributed algorithm is proposed that incorporates the push-sum protocol into dual subgradient methods. Under the convexity assumption, the optimality of primal and dual variables, and constraint violations is first established. Then the explicit convergence rates of the proposed algorithm are obtained. Finally, some numerical experiments on the economic dispatch problem are provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.
In this paper, we propose a new self-triggered formulation of Model Predictive Control for continuous-time linear networked control systems. Our control approach, which aims at reducing the number of transmitting control samples to the plant, is deri ved by parallelly solving optimal control problems with different sampling time intervals. The controller then picks up one sampling pattern as a transmission decision, such that a reduction of communication load and the stability will be obtained. The proposed strategy is illustrated through comparative simulation examples.

In this paper we consider a distributed convex optimization problem over time-varying undirected networks. We propose a dual method, primarily averaged network dual ascent (PANDA), that is proven to converge R-linearly to the optimal point given that the agents objective functions are strongly convex and have Lipschitz continuous gradients. Like dual decomposition, PANDA requires half the amount of variable exchanges per iterate of methods based on DIGing, and can provide with practical improved performance as empirically demonstrated.
There is an increasing interest in designing differentiators, which converge exactly before a prespecified time regardless of the initial conditions, i.e., which are fixed-time convergent with a predefined Upper Bound of their Settling Time (UBST), d ue to their ability to solve estimation and control problems with time constraints. However, for the class of signals with a known bound of their $(n+1)$-th time derivative, the existing design methodologies are either only available for first-order differentiators, yielding a very conservative UBST, or result in gains that tend to infinity at the convergence time. Here, we introduce a new methodology based on time-varying gains to design arbitrary-order exact differentiators with a predefined UBST. This UBST is a priori set as one parameter of the algorithm. Our approach guarantees that the UBST can be set arbitrarily tight, and we also provide sufficient conditions to obtain exact convergence while maintaining bounded time-varying gains. Additionally, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions such that our approach yields error dynamics with a uniformly Lyapunov stable equilibrium. Our results show how time-varying gains offer a general and flexible methodology to design algorithms with a predefined UBST.
In recent years, variance-reducing stochastic methods have shown great practical performance, exhibiting linear convergence rate when other stochastic methods offered a sub-linear rate. However, as datasets grow ever bigger and clusters become widesp read, the need for fast distribution methods is pressing. We propose here a distribution scheme for SAGA which maintains a linear convergence rate, even when communication between nodes is limited.
