We present a transformation-grounded image generation network for novel 3D view synthesis from a single image. Instead of taking a blank slate approach, we first explicitly infer the parts of the geometry visible both in the input and novel views and then re-cast the remaining synthesis problem as image completion. Specifically, we both predict a flow to move the pixels from the input to the novel view along with a novel visibility map that helps deal with occulsion/disocculsion. Next, conditioned on those intermediate results, we hallucinate (infer) parts of the object invisible in the input image. In addition to the new network structure, training with a combination of adversarial and perceptual loss results in a reduction in common artifacts of novel view synthesis such as distortions and holes, while successfully generating high frequency details and preserving visual aspects of the input image. We evaluate our approach on a wide range of synthetic and real examples. Both qualitative and quantitative results show our method achieves significantly better results compared to existing methods.

This paper tackles the problem of novel view synthesis from a single image. In particular, we target real-world scenes with rich geometric structure, a challenging task due to the large appearance variations of such scenes and the lack of simple 3D m odels to represent them. Modern, learning-based approaches mostly focus on appearance to synthesize novel views and thus tend to generate predictions that are inconsistent with the underlying scene structure. By contrast, in this paper, we propose to exploit the 3D geometry of the scene to synthesize a novel view. Specifically, we approximate a real-world scene by a fixed number of planes, and learn to predict a set of homographies and their corresponding region masks to transform the input image into a novel view. To this end, we develop a new region-aware geometric transform network that performs these multiple tasks in a common framework. Our results on the outdoor KITTI and the indoor ScanNet datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our network in generating high quality synthetic views that respect the scene geometry, thus outperforming the state-of-the-art methods.
Novel view synthesis from a single image aims at generating novel views from a single input image of an object. Several works recently achieved remarkable results, though require some form of multi-view supervision at training time, therefore limitin g their deployment in real scenarios. This work aims at relaxing this assumption enabling training of conditional generative model for novel view synthesis in a completely unsupervised manner. We first pre-train a purely generative decoder model using a GAN formulation while at the same time training an encoder network to invert the mapping from latent code to images. Then we swap encoder and decoder and train the network as a conditioned GAN with a mixture of auto-encoder-like objective and self-distillation. At test time, given a view of an object, our model first embeds the image content in a latent code and regresses its pose w.r.t. a canonical reference system, then generates novel views of it by keeping the code and varying the pose. We show that our framework achieves results comparable to the state of the art on ShapeNet and that it can be employed on unconstrained collections of natural images, where no competing method can be trained.
Pose-guided person image generation is to transform a source person image to a target pose. This task requires spatial manipulations of source data. However, Convolutional Neural Networks are limited by the lack of ability to spatially transform the inputs. In this paper, we propose a differentiable global-flow local-attention framework to reassemble the inputs at the feature level. Specifically, our model first calculates the global correlations between sources and targets to predict flow fields. Then, the flowed local patch pairs are extracted from the feature maps to calculate the local attention coefficients. Finally, we warp the source features using a content-aware sampling method with the obtained local attention coefficients. The results of both subjective and objective experiments demonstrate the superiority of our model. Besides, additional results in video animation and view synthesis show that our model is applicable to other tasks requiring spatial transformation. Recent approaches to render photorealistic views from a limited set of photographs have pushed the boundaries of our interactions with pictures of static scenes. The ability to recreate moments, that is, time-varying sequences, is perhaps an even mor e interesting scenario, but it remains largely unsolved. We introduce DCT-NeRF, a coordinatebased neural representation for dynamic scenes. DCTNeRF learns smooth and stable trajectories over the input sequence for each point in space. This allows us to enforce consistency between any two frames in the sequence, which results in high quality reconstruction, particularly in dynamic regions.
This paper targets on learning-based novel view synthesis from a single or limited 2D images without the pose supervision. In the viewer-centered coordinates, we construct an end-to-end trainable conditional variational framework to disentangle the u nsupervisely learned relative-pose/rotation and implicit global 3D representation (shape, texture and the origin of viewer-centered coordinates, etc.). The global appearance of the 3D object is given by several appearance-describing images taken from any number of viewpoints. Our spatial correlation module extracts a global 3D representation from the appearance-describing images in a permutation invariant manner. Our system can achieve implicitly 3D understanding without explicitly 3D reconstruction. With an unsupervisely learned viewer-centered relative-pose/rotation code, the decoder can hallucinate the novel view continuously by sampling the relative-pose in a prior distribution. In various applications, we demonstrate that our model can achieve comparable or even better results than pose/3D model-supervised learning-based novel view synthesis (NVS) methods with any number of input views.
