We demonstrate, for the first time, a secure optical network architecture that combines NFV orchestration and SDN control with quantum key distribution (QKD) technology. A novel time-shared QKD network design is presented as a cost-effective solution for practical networks.

Time coding quantum key distribution with coherent faint pulses is experimentally demonstrated. A measured 3.3 % quantum bit error rate and a relative contrast loss of 8.4 % allow a 0.49 bit/pulse advantage to Bob.

We demonstrate the underwater quantum key distribution (UWQKD) over a 10.4-meter Jerlov type III seawater channel by building a complete UWQKD system with all-optical transmission of quantum signals, synchronization signal and classical communication signal. The wavelength division multiplexing and the space-time-wavelength filtering technology are applied to ensure that the optical signals do not interfere with each other. The system is controlled by FPGA, and can be easily integrated into watertight cabins to perform field experiment. By using the decoy-state BB84 protocol with polarization encoding, we obtain a secure key rate of 1.82Kbps and an error rate of 1.55% at the attenuation of 13.26dB. We prove that the system can tolerate the channel loss up to 23.7dB, therefore may be used in the 300-meter-long Jerlov type I clean seawater channel.
In this paper we demonstrate an active polarization drift compensation scheme for optical fibres employed in a quantum key distribution experiment with polarization encoded qubits. The quantum signals are wavelength multiplexed in one fibre along wit h two classical optical side channels that provide the control information for the polarization compensation scheme. This set-up allows us to continuously track any polarization change without the need to interrupt the key exchange. The results obtained show that fast polarization rotations of the order of 40*pi rad/s are effectively compensated for. We demonstrate that our set-up allows continuous quantum key distribution even in a fibre stressed by random polarization fluctuations. Our results pave the way for Bell-state measurements using only linear optics with parties separated by long-distance optical fibres.
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) are increasingly important in critical areas of our society such as intelligent power grids, next generation mobile devices, and smart buildings. CPS operation has characteristics including considerable heterogeneity, va riable dynamics, and high complexity. These systems have also scarce resources in order to satisfy their entire load demand, which can be divided into data processing and service execution. These new characteristics of CPSs need to be managed with novel strategies to ensure their resilient operation. Towards this goal, we propose an SDN-based solution enhanced by distributed Network Function Virtualization (NFV) modules located at the top-most level of our solution architecture. These NFV agents will take orchestrated management decisions among themselves to ensure a resilient CPS configuration against threats, and an optimum operation of the CPS. For this, we study and compare two distinct incentive mechanisms to enforce cooperation among NFVs. Thus, we aim to offer novel perspectives into the management of resilient CPSs, embedding IoT devices, modeled by Game Theory (GT), using the latest software and virtualization platforms.
