A semiconductor quintuple quantum dot with two charge sensors and an additional contact to the center dot from an electron reservoir is fabricated to demonstrate the concept of scalable architecture. This design enables formation of the five dots as confirmed by measurements of the charge states of the three nearest dots to the respective charge sensor. The gate performance of the measured stability diagram is well reproduced by a capacitance model. These results provide an important step towards realizing controllable large scale multiple quantum dot systems.

We study the low-energy physics of a one-dimensional array of superconducting quantum dots realized by proximity coupling a semiconductor nanowire to multiple superconducting islands separated by narrow uncovered regions. The effective electrostatic potential inside the quantum dots and the uncovered regions can be controlled using potential gates. By performing detailed numerical calculations based on effective tightbinding models, we find that multiple low-energy sub-gap states consisting of partially overlapping Majorana bound states emerge generically in the vicinity of the uncovered regions. Explicit differential conductance calculations show that a robust zero-bias conductance peak is not inconsistent with the presence of such states localized throughout the system, hence the observation of such a peak does not demonstrate the realization of well-separated Majorana zero modes. However, we find that creating effective potential wells in the uncovered regions traps pairs of nearby partially overlapping Majorana bound states, which become less separated and acquire a finite gap that protects the pair of Majorana zero modes localized at the ends of the system. This behavior persists over a significant parameter range, suggesting that proximitized quantum dot arrays could provide a platform for highly controllable Majorana devices.
We report the realization of an array of four tunnel coupled quantum dots in the single electron regime, which is the first required step toward a scalable solid state spin qubit architecture. We achieve an efficient tunability of the system but also find out that the conditions to realize spin blockade readout are not as straightforwardly obtained as for double and triple quantum dot circuits. We use a simple capacitive model of the series quadruple quantum dots circuit to investigate its complex charge state diagrams and are able to find the most suitable configurations for future Pauli spin blockade measurements. We then experimentally realize the corresponding charge states with a good agreement to our model.
We demonstrate dispersive readout of individual charge states in a gate-defined few-electron quantum dot in bilayer graphene. We employ a radio frequency reflectometry circuit, where an LC resonator with a resonance frequency close to 280 MHz is dire ctly coupled to an ohmic contact of the quantum dot device. The detection scheme based on changes in the quantum capacitance operates over a wide gate-voltage range and allows to probe excited states down to the single-electron regime. Crucially, the presented sensing technique avoids the use of an additional, capacitively coupled quantum device such as a quantum point contact or single electron transistor, making dispersive sensing particularly interesting for gate-defined graphene quantum dots.

Spin qubits involving individual spins in single quantum dots or coupled spins in double quantum dots have emerged as potential building blocks for quantum information processing applications. It has been suggested that triple quantum dots may provid e additional tools and functionalities. These include the encoding of information to either obtain protection from decoherence or to permit all-electrical operation, efficient spin busing across a quantum circuit, and to enable quantum error correction utilizing the three-spin Greenberger-Horn-Zeilinger quantum state. Towards these goals we demonstrate for the first time coherent manipulation between two interacting three-spin states. We employ the Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg approach for creating and manipulating coherent superpositions of quantum states. We confirm that we are able to maintain coherence when decreasing the exchange coupling of one spin with another while simultaneously increasing its coupling with the third. Such control of pairwise exchange is a requirement of most spin qubit architectures but has not been previously demonstrated.
A linear triple quantum dot (TQD) integrated with a quantum dot (QD) charge sensor is realized. The TQD and the charge sensor are built from two adjacent InAs nanowires by fine finger gate technique. The charge state configurations of the nanowire TQ D are studied by measurements of the direct transport signals of the TQD and by detection of the charge state transitions in the TQD via the nanowire QD sensor. Excellent agreements in the charge stability diagrams of the TQD obtained by the direct transport measurements and by the charge-state transition detection measurements are achieved. It is shown that the charge stability diagrams are featured by three groups of charge state transition lines of different slopes, corresponding to the changes in the electron occupation numbers of the three individual QDs in the TQD. It is also shown that the integrated nanowire QD sensor is highly sensitive and can detect the charge state transitions in the cases where the direct transport signals of the TQD are too weak to be measurable. Tuning to a regime, where all the three QDs in the TQD are close to be on resonance with the Fermi level of the source and drain reservoirs and co-existence of triple and quadruple points becomes possible, has also been demonstrated with the help of the charge sensor in the region where the direct transport signals of the TQD are hardly visible.
