We report the superconductivity of the CaSn3 single crystal with a AuCu3-type structure, namely cubic space group Pm3m. The superconducting transition temperature TC=4.2 K is determined by the magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. The magnetization versus magnetic field (M-H) curve at low temperatures shows the typical-II superconducting behavior. The estimated lower and upper critical fields are about 125 Oe and 1.79 T, respectively. The penetration depth lambda(0) and coherence length xi(0) are calculated to be approximately 1147 nm and 136 nm by the Ginzburg-Landau equations. The estimated Sommerfeld coefficient of the normal state {gamma}_N is about 2.9 mJ/mol K2. {Delta}C/{gamma}NTC =1.13 and {lambda}ep=0.65 suggest that CaSn3 single crystal is a weakly coupled superconductor. Electronic band structure calculations show a complex multi-sheet Fermi surface formed by three bands and a low density of states (DOS) at the Fermi level, which is consistent with the experimental results. Based on the analysis of electron phonon coupling of AX3 compounds (A=Ca, La, and Y; X=Sn and Pb), we theoretically proposed a way to increase TC in the system.

We report the synthesis, electronic properties, and electronic structure of ullmannite-type PtSbS, which has a cubic crystal structure without space inversion symmetry. Electrical resistivity and magnetization measured at low temperatures suggested t hat this compound is a bulk superconductor with a superconducting transition temperature of Tc = 0.15 K. First principles calculations indicated that Fermi surfaces of PtSbS include strongly nested hole pockets, which can make this compound interesting if they contribute to the emergence of superconductivity.

We have investigated the superconducting properties in a single crystal of a new superconductor Pb$_{2}$Pd via various techniques including magnetization, AC transport, transverse field muon spin rotation and relaxation (TF-$mu$SR), and heat capacity . Pb$_{2}$Pd crystallizes in a body-centred tetragonal structure with space group I4/$mcm$. All measurements confirm the superconducting transition temperature, T$_{C}$ = 3.0 $pm$ 0.1 K. Electronic specific heat data are well described by the BCS fitting, suggesting that Pb$_{2}$Pd opens an isotropic gap on entering the superconducting state. The specific heat jump and $lambda_{e-ph}$ value categorize Pb$_{2}$Pd as a moderately coupled superconductor. Magnetization and transverse field muon spin rotation measurements along with Ginzburg-Landau parameter, $kappa$ < 1/$sqrt{2}$ strongly infers that Pb$_{2}$Pd is a type I superconductor.

Both Nb$_3$Pd$_x$Se$_7$ and Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$ crystallize in a monoclinic point group while exhibiting superconducting transition temperatures as high as $T_csim 3.5$ and $sim 4.7 $ K, respectively. Disorder was claimed to lead to the extremely l arge upper critical fields ($H_{c2}$) observed in related compounds. Despite the presence of disorder and heavier elements, $H_{c2}$s in Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$ are found to be considerably smaller than those of Nb$_3$Pd$_x$Se$_7$ while displaying an anomalous, non-saturating linear dependence on temperature $T$ for fields along all three crystallographic axes. In contrast, crystals of the latter compound displaying the highest $T_c$s display $H_{c2}propto (1-T/T_c)^{1/2}$, which in monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides is claimed to be evidence for an Ising paired superconducting state resulting from strong spin-orbit coupling. This anomalous $T$-dependence indicates that the superconducting state of Nb$_3$Pd$_x$Se$_7$ is quasi-two-dimensional in nature. This is further supported by a nearly divergent anisotropy in upper-critical fields, i.e. $gamma= H_{c2}^{b}/H_{c2}^{a^{prime}}$, upon approaching $T_c$. Hence, in Nb$_3$Pd$_x$Se$_7$ the increase of $T_c$ correlates with a marked reduction in electronic dimensionality as observed, for example, in intercalated FeSe. For the Nb compound, Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that an increase in the external field produces an anisotropic orbital response, with especially strong polarization at the Pd sites when the field is perpendicular to their square planar environment. Therefore, DFT suggests the field-induced pinning of the spin to the lattice as a possible mechanism for decoupling the superconducting planes. Overall, our observations represent further evidence for unconventional superconductivity in the Pd chalcogenides.
Here we report the synthesis and superconductivity of a novel ternary compound LaPd2Bi2. Shiny plate-like single crystals of LaPd2Bi2 were first synthesized by high-temperature solution method with PdBi flux. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that LaPd2Bi2 belongs to the primitive tetragonal CaBe2Ge2-type structure with the space group P4/nmm (No. 129), and the refined lattice parameters are a = 4.717(2) {AA}, c = 9.957(3) {AA}. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that LaPd2Bi2 undergoes a superconducting transition at 2.83 K and exhibits the characteristics of type-II superconductivity. The discovery of superconductivity in LaPd2Bi2 with CaBe2Ge2-type structure may help to further understand the possible relationship between the occurrence of superconductivity and the crystal structures in 122-type materials.

We report the discovery of superconductivity on high-quality single crystals of transition-metal pnictides WP grown by chemical vapor transport (CVT) method. Bulk superconductivity is observed at Tc = 0.84 K under ambient pressure by electrical resis tivity and AC magnetic susceptibility measurements. The effects of magnetic field on the superconducting transitions are studied, leading to a large anisotropy parameter around 2 with the in-plane and out-of-plane upper critical fields of Hc2=172 Oe and Hc2=85 Oe, respectively. Our finding demonstrates that WP is the first superconductor in 5d transition-metal at ambient pressure in MnP-type, which will help to search for new superconductors in transition-metal pnictides.
