We present the measurement of the transverse single-spin asymmetry of weak boson production in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions at $sqrt{s} = 500~text{GeV}$ by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The measured observable is sensitive to the Sivers function, one of the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions, which is predicted to have the opposite sign in proton-proton collisions from that observed in deep inelastic lepton-proton scattering. These data provide the first experimental investigation of the non-universality of the Sivers function, fundamental to our understanding of QCD.

The production of $W^{pm}$ bosons in longitudinally polarized $vec{p}+vec{p}$ collisions at RHIC provides a new means of studying the spin-flavor asymmetries of the proton sea quark distributions. Details of the $W^{pm}$ event selection in the $e^{pm }$ decay channel at mid-rapidity are presented, along with preliminary results for the production cross section and parity-violating single-spin asymmetry, $A_L$, from the STAR Collaborations 2009 data at $sqrt{s}=500$ GeV.
We report on the $W$ and $Z/gamma^*$ differential and total cross sections as well as the $W^+$/$W^-$ and $(W^+ + W^-)$/$(Z/gamma^*)$ cross-section ratios measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC in $p+p$ collisions at $sqrt{s} = 500$ GeV and $510$ Ge V. The cross sections and their ratios are sensitive to quark and antiquark parton distribution functions. In particular, at leading order, the $W$ cross-section ratio is sensitive to the $bar{d}/bar{u}$ ratio. These measurements were taken at high $Q^2 sim M_W^2,M_Z^2$ and can serve as input into global analyses to provide constraints on the sea quark distributions. The results presented here combine three STAR data sets from 2011, 2012, and 2013, accumulating an integrated luminosity of 350 pb$^{-1}$. We also assess the expected impact that our $W^+/W^-$ cross-section ratios will have on various quark distributions, and find sensitivity to the $bar{u}-bar{d}$ and $bar{d}/bar{u}$ distributions.
We present a measurement of the cross section and transverse single-spin asymmetry ($A_N$) for $eta$ mesons at large pseudorapidity from $sqrt{s}=200$~GeV $p^{uparrow}+p$ collisions. The measured cross section for $0.5<p_T<5.0$~GeV/$c$ and $3.0<|eta| <3.8$ is well described by a next-to-leading-order perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics calculation. The asymmetries $A_N$ have been measured as a function of Feynman-$x$ ($x_F$) from $0.2<|x_{F}|<0.7$, as well as transverse momentum ($p_T$) from $1.0<p_T<4.5$~GeV/$c$. The asymmetry averaged over positive $x_F$ is $langle{A_{N}}rangle=0.061{pm}0.014$. The results are consistent with prior transverse single-spin measurements of forward $eta$ and $pi^{0}$ mesons at various energies in overlapping $x_F$ ranges. Comparison of different particle species can help to determine the origin of the large observed asymmetries in $p^{uparrow}+p$ collisions.

Accessing the Sivers TMD function in proton+proton collisions through the measurement of transverse single spin asymmetries (TSSAs) in Drell-Yan and weak boson production is an effective path to test the fundamental QCD prediction of the non-universa lity of the Sivers function. Furthermore, it provides data to study the spin-flavor structure of valence and sea quarks inside the proton and to test the evolution of parton distributions. The TSSA amplitude, $A_{N}$, has been measured at STAR in proton+proton collisions at $sqrt{s} = 500$ GeV, with a recorded integrated luminosity of 25 pb$^{-1}$. Within relatively large statistical uncertainties, the current data favor theoretical models that include a change of sign for the Sivers function relative to observations in SIDIS measurements, if TMD evolution effects are small. RHIC plans to run proton+proton collisions of transversely polarized beams at $sqrt{s} = 510$ GeV in 2017, delivering an integrated luminosity of 400 pb$^{-1}$. This will allow STAR to perform a precise measurement of TSSAs in both Drell-Yan and weak boson production. The present status and future plans for the Sivers function program at STAR will be discussed as well as other observables sensitive to the non-universality of the Sivers function in the Twist-3 framework, e.g. the TSSA of direct photons.
The energy dependence of the single-transverse-spin asymmetry, A_N, and the cross section for neutron production at very forward angles were measured in the PHENIX experiment at RHIC for polarized p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV. The neutrons were observed in forward detectors covering an angular range of up to 2.2 mrad. We report results for neutrons with momentum fraction of x_F=0.45 to 1.0. The energy dependence of the measured cross sections were consistent with x_F scaling, compared to measurements by an ISR experiment which measured neutron production in unpolarized p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=30.6--62.7 GeV. The cross sections for large x_F neutron production for p+p collisions, as well as those in e+p collisions measured at HERA, are described by a pion exchange mechanism. The observed forward neutron asymmetries were large, reaching A_N=-0.08+/-0.02 for x_F=0.8; the measured backward asymmetries, for negative x_F, were consistent with zero. The observed asymmetry for forward neutron production is discussed within the pion exchange framework, with interference between the spin-flip amplitude due to the pion exchange and nonflip amplitudes from all Reggeon exchanges. Within the pion exchange description, the measured neutron asymmetry is sensitive to the contribution of other Reggeon exchanges even for small amplitudes.
