One manifestation of quantum resonances is a large sojourn time, or autocorrelation, for states which are initially localized. We elaborate on Lavines time-energy uncertainty principle and give an estimate on the sojourn time. For the case of perturbed embedded eigenstates the bound is explicit and involves Fermis Golden Rule. It is valid for a very general class of systems. We illustrate the theory by applications to resonances for time dependent systems including the AC Stark effect as well as multistate systems.

Utilizing frameworks developed by Delsarte, Yudin and Levenshtein, we deduce linear programming lower bounds (as $Nto infty$) for the Riesz energy of $N$-point configurations on the $d$-dimensional unit sphere in the so-called hypersingular case; i.e , for non-integrable Riesz kernels of the form $|x-y|^{-s}$ with $s>d.$ As a consequence, we immediately get (thanks to the Poppy-seed bagel theorem) lower estimates for the large $N$ limits of minimal hypersingular Riesz energy on compact $d$-rectifiable sets. Furthermore, for the Gaussian potential $exp(-alpha|x-y|^2)$ on $mathbb{R}^p,$ we obtain lower bounds for the energy of infinite configurations having a prescribed density.

Even though irreversibility is one of the major hallmarks of any real life process, an actual understanding of irreversible processes remains still mostly semiempirical. In this paper we formulate a thermodynamic uncertainty principle for irreversibl e heat engines operating with an ideal gas as a working medium. In particular, we show that the time needed to run through such an irreversible cycle multiplied by the irreversible work lost in the cycle, is bounded from below by an irreducible and process-dependent constant that has the dimension of an action. The constant in question depends on a typical scale of the process and becomes comparable to Plancks constant at the length scale of the order Bohr-radius, i.e., the scale that corresponds to the smallest distance on which the ideal gas paradigm realistically applies.
We construct concrete examples of time operators for both continuous and discrete-time homogeneous quantum walks, and we determine their deficiency indices and spectra. For a discrete-time quantum walk, the time operator can be self-adjoint if the ti me evolution operator has a non-zero winding number. In this case, its spectrum becomes a discrete set of real numbers.
We study a variational model for a diblock-copolymer/homopolymer blend. The energy functional is a sharp-interface limit of a generalisation of the Ohta-Kawasaki energy. In one dimension, on the real line and on the torus, we prove existence of minim isers of this functional and we describe in complete detail the structure and energy of stationary points. Furthermore we characterise the conditions under which the minimisers may be non-unique. In higher dimensions we construct lower and upper bounds on the energy of minimisers, and explicitly compute the energy of spherically symmetric configurations.
Uncertainty relations play a crucial role in quantum mechanics. A well-defined method exists for deriving such uncertainties for pairs of observables. It does not include, however, an important family of fundamental relations: the time-energy uncerta inty relations. As a result, different approaches have been used for obtaining them in diversified scenarios. The one of interest here revolves around the idea of the existence or inexistence of a minimum duration for an energy measurement with a certain precision. In our study, we use the Page and Wooters timeless framework to investigate how energy measurements modify the relative flow of time between internal and external clocks. This provides a unified framework for discussing the topic, recovering previous results and leading to new ones. We also show that the evolution of the external clock with respect to the internal one is non-unitary.
