Inelastic neutron scattering experiments are performed on a nanoporous metal complex Cu-Trans-1,4-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic Acid (Cu-CHD) adsorbing O2 molecules to identify the spin model of the O2-based magnet realized in the host complex. It is found that the magnetic excitations of Cu-CHDs adsorbing low- and high-concentration O2 molecules are explained by different spin models, the former by spin dimers and the latter by spin trimers. By using the obtained parameters and also by assuming that the levels of the higher energy states are reduced because of the non-negligible spin dependence of the molecular potential of oxygen, the magnetization curves are explained in quantitative level.

We investigate spin-triplet exciton condensation in the two-orbital Hubbard model close to half filling by means of dynamical mean-field theory. Employing an impurity solver that handles complex off-diagonal hybridization functions, we study the beha vior of excitonic condensate in stoichiometric and doped systems subject to external magnetic field. We find a general tendency of the triplet order parameter to lay perpendicular with the applied field and identify exceptions from this rule. For solutions exhibiting k-odd spin textures, we discuss the Bloch theorem which, in the absence of spin-orbit coupling, forbids the appearance of spontaneous net spin current. We demonstrate that the Bloch theorem is not obeyed by the dynamical mean-field theory.
A family of spin-orbit coupled honeycomb Mott insulators offers a playground to search for quantum spin liquids (QSLs) via bond-dependent interactions. In candidate materials, a symmetric off-diagonal $Gamma$ term, close cousin of Kitaev interaction, has emerged as another source of frustration that is essential for complete understanding of these systems. However, the ground state of honeycomb $Gamma$ model remains elusive, with a suggested zigzag magnetic order. Here we attempt to resolve the puzzle by perturbing the $Gamma$ region with a staggered Heisenberg interaction which favours the zigzag ordering. Despite such favour, we find a wide disordered region inclusive of the $Gamma$ limit in the phase diagram. Further, this phase exhibits a vanishing energy gap, a collapse of excitation spectrum, and a logarithmic entanglement entropy scaling on long cylinders, indicating a gapless QSL. Other quantities such as plaquette-plaquette correlation are also discussed.
Collective behaviour of electrons, frustration induced quantum fluctuations and entanglement in quantum materials underlie some of the emergent quantum phenomena with exotic quasi-particle excitations that are highly relevant for technological applic ations. Frustrated quantum materials offer an exciting venue to realize highly entangled quantum states with fractional excitations. Herein, we present our thermodynamic and muon spin relaxation measurements on the recently synthesized frustrated antiferromagnet Li4CuTeO6, in which Cu2+ ions (S = 1/2) constitute a disordered triangular-lattice in the crystallographic ab-plane. Our experiments detect neither long-range magnetic ordering nor spin freezing down to a temperature of 1.55 K despite the presence of strong antiferromagnetic interaction between Cu2+ moments leading to a large Curie-Weiss temperature of -163 K. Muon spin relaxation results demonstrate a dynamic liquid-like quantum state. The temperature and magnetic field scaling of magnetization and specific heat reveal a data collapse pointing towards the presence of random-singlets within a disorder-driven correlated and dynamic ground-state in this frustrated antiferromagnet.
We carried out inelastic neutron scattering to study the spin-orbital (SO) exciton in a single crystal sample of CoTiO$_3$ as a function of temperature. CoTiO$_3$ is a honeycomb magnet with dominant XY-type magnetic interaction and an A-type antiferr omagnetic order below $mathrm{T_N} approx 38$~K. We found that the SO exciton becomes softer, but acquires a larger bandwidth in the paramagnetic phase, compared to that in the magnetically ordered phase. Moreover, an additional mode is only observed in the intermediate temperature range, as the sample is warmed up above the lowest accessible temperature below $mathrm{T_N}$. Such an unusual temperature dependence observed in this material suggests that its ground states (an $S_{mathrm{eff}}=frac{1}{2}$ doublet) and excited states multiplets are strongly coupled, and therefore cannot be treated independently, as often done in a pseudo-spin model. Our observations can be explained by a multi-level theory within random phase approximation that explicitly takes into account both the ground and excited multiplets. The success of our theory, which is originally developed to explain temperature dependence of magnetic excitations in the rare-earth magnets, highlight the similarity between the magnetic excitations in rare-earth systems and those in transition metal systems with strong spin orbit coupling.
We report the direct observation of a magnetic-feld induced long-wavelength spin spiral modulation in the chiral compound Ba3TaFe3Si2O14. This new spin texture emerges out of a chiral helical ground state, and is hallmarked by the onset of a unique c ontribution to the bulk electric polarization, the sign of which depends on the crystal chirality. The periodicity of the feld induced modulation, several hundreds of nm depending on the field value, is comparable to the length scales of mesoscopic topological defects such as skyrmions, merons and solitons. The phase transition and observed threshold behavior are consistent with a phenomenology based on the allowed Lifshitz invariants for the chiral symmetry of langasite, which intriguingly contain all the ingredients for the possible realization of topologically stable antiferromagnetic skyrmions.
