We study whether the inflation is realized based on the radion gauge-Higgs potential obtained from the one-loop calculation in the 5-dimensional gravity coupled to a $U(1)$ gauge theory. We show that the gauge-Higgs can give rise to inflation in accord with the astrophysical data and the radion plays a role in fixing the values of physical parameters. We clarify the reason why the radion dominated inflation and the hybrid inflation cannot occur in our framework.

Using the gauge invariant flow equation for quantum gravity we compute how the strength of gravity depends on the length or energy scale. The fixed point value of the scale-dependent Planck mass in units of the momentum scale has an important impact on the question, which parameters of the Higgs potential can be predicted in the asymptotic safety scenario for quantum gravity? For the standard model and a large class of theories with additional particles the quartic Higgs coupling is an irrelevant parameter at the ultraviolet fixed point. This makes the ratio between the Higgs boson and the top-quark mass predictable.
Recently, a model for an emergent gravity based on $SO(5)$ Yang-Mills action in Euclidian 4-dimensional spacetime was proposed. In this work we provide some 1 and 2-loops computations and show that the model can accommodate suitable predicting values for the Newtonian constant. Moreover, it is shown that the typical scale of the expected transition between the quantum and the geometrodynamical theory is consistent with Planck scale. We also provide a discussion on the cosmological constant problem.
Inflation in the framework of Einstein-Cartan theory is revisited. Einstein-Cartan theory is a natural extension of the General Relativity, with non-vanishing torsion. The connection on Riemann-Cartan spacetime is only compatible with the cosmologica l principal for a particular form of torsion. We show this form to also be compatible with gauge invariance principle for a non-Abelian and Abelian gauge fields under a certain deviced minimal coupling procedure. We adopt an Abelian gauge field in the form of cosmic triad. The dynamical field equations are obtained and shown to sustain cosmic inflation with a large number of e-folds. We emphasize that at the end of inflation, torsion vanishes and the theory of Einstein-Cartan reduces to the General Relativity with the usual FRW geometry.
Scalar fields, $phi_i$ can be coupled non-minimally to curvature and satisfy the general criteria: (i) the theory has no mass input parameters, including the Planck mass; (ii) the $phi_i$ have arbitrary values and gradients, but undergo a general exp ansion and relaxation to constant values that satisfy a nontrivial constraint, $K(phi_i) =$ constant; (iii) this constraint breaks scale symmetry spontaneously, and the Planck mass is dynamically generated; (iv) there can be adequate inflation associated with slow roll in a scale invariant potential subject to the constraint; (v) the final vacuum can have a small to vanishing cosmological constant (vi) large hierarchies in vacuum expectation values can naturally form; (vii) there is a harmless dilaton which naturally eludes the usual constraints on massless scalars. These models are governed by a global Weyl scale symmetry and its conserved current, $K_mu$ . At the quantum level the Weyl scale symmetry can be maintained by an invariant specification of renormalized quantities.

We propose a new construction of the supergravity inflation as an UV completion of the Higgs-$R^2$ inflation. In the dual description of $R^2$-supergravity, we show that there appear dual chiral superfields containing the scalaron or sigma field in t he Starobinsky inflation, which unitarizes the supersymmetric Higgs inflation with a large non-minimal coupling up to the Planck scale. We find that a successful slow-roll inflation is achievable in the Higgs-sigma field space, but under the condition that higher curvature terms are introduced to cure the tachyonic mass problems for spectator singlet scalar fields. We also discuss supersymmetry breaking and its transmission to the visible sector as a result of the couplings of the dual chiral superfields and the non-minimal gravity coupling of the Higgs fields.
