It is shown that in extensions of the standard model of quarks and leptons where additive lepton number $L$ is broken by two units, so that $Z_2$ lepton parity, i.e. $(-1)^L$ which is either even or odd, remains exactly conserved, there is the possibility of stable dark matter without additional symmetry. This applies to many existing simple models of Majorana neutrino mass with dark matter, including some radiative models. Several well-known examples are discussed. This new insight leads to the construction of a radiative Type II seesaw model of neutrino mass with dark matter where the dominant decay of the doubly charged Higgs boson $xi^{++}$ is into $W^+W^+$ instead of the expected $l_i^+ l_j^+$ lepton pairs for the well-known tree-level model.

The gravitino is a promising supersymmetric dark matter candidate, even without strict R-parity conservation. In fact, with some small R-parity violation, gravitinos are sufficiently long-lived to constitute the dark matter of the universe, while the resulting cosmological scenario is consistent with primordial nucleosynthesis and the high reheating temperature needed for thermal leptogenesis. Furthermore, in this scenario the gravitino is unstable and might thus be accessible by indirect detection via its decay products. We compute in this thesis the partial decay widths for the gravitino in models with bilinear R-parity breaking. In addition, we determine the neutrino signal from astrophysical gravitino dark matter decays. Finally, we discuss the feasibility of detecting these neutrino signals in present and future neutrino experiments, and conclude that it will be a challenging task. Albeit, if detected, this distinctive signal might bring considerable support to the scenario of decaying gravitino dark matter.
Based on a recent idea by Krohn and Yavin, we construct a little Higgs model with an internal parity that is not broken by anomalous Wess-Zumino-Witten terms. The model is a modification of the minimal moose models by Arkani-Hamed et al. and Cheng an d Low. The new parity prevents large corrections to oblique electroweak parameters and leads to a viable dark matter candidate. It is shown how the complete Standard Model particle content, including quarks and leptons together with their Yukawa couplings, can be implemented. Successful electroweak symmetry breaking and consistency with electroweak precision constraints is achieved for natural paramters choices. A rich spectrum of new particles is predicted at the TeV scale, some of which have sizable production cross sections and striking decay signatures at the LHC.

The idea that dark matter forms part of a larger dark sector is very intriguing, given the high degree of complexity of the visible sector. In this paper, we discuss lepton jets as a promising signature of an extended dark sector. As a simple toy mod el, we consider an $mathcal{O}(text{GeV})$ DM fermion coupled to a new $U(1)$ gauge boson (dark photon) with a mass of order GeV and kinetically mixed with the Standard Model photon. Dark matter production at the LHC in this model is typically accompanied by collinear radiation of dark photons whose decay products can form lepton jets. We analyze the dynamics of collinear dark photon emission both analytically and numerically. In particular, we derive the dark photon energy spectrum using recursive analytic expressions, using Monte Carlo simulations in Pythia, and using an inverse Mellin transform to obtain the spectrum from its moments. In the second part of the paper, we simulate the expected lepton jet signatures from radiating dark matter at the LHC, carefully taking into account the various dark photon decay modes and allowing for both prompt and displaced decays. Using these simulations, we recast two existing ATLAS lepton jet searches to significantly restrict the parameter space of extended dark sector models, and we compute the expected sensitivity of future LHC searches.

An unstable gravitino with lifetime longer than $10^{26}$ sec or so has been proposed as a possible dark matter candidate in supergravity models with R-parity breaking. We find a natural realization of this idea in the minimal supersymmetric left-rig ht models where left-right symmetry breaking scale in the few TeV range. It is known that in these models, R-parity must break in order to have parity breaking as required by low energy weak interactions. The sub-eV neutrino masses imply that R-parity breaking effects in this model must be highly suppressed. This in turn makes the gravitino LSP long lived enough, so that it becomes the dark matter of the Universe. It also allows detectable displaced vertices at the LHC from NLSP decays. We present a detailed analysis of the model and some aspects of its rich phenomenology.

The strategy for assigning $Z_{4R}$ parity in the string compactification is presented. For the visible sector, an anti-SU(5) (flipped-SU(5)) grand unification (GUT) model with three families is used to reduce the number of representations compared t o the number in the minimal supersymmetric standard models (MSSMs). The SO(32) heterotic string is used to allow a large nonabelian gauge group SU($N$), $Nge 9$, for the hidden sector such that the number of extra U(1) factors is small. A discrete subgroup of the gauge U(1)s is defined as the $Z_{4R}$ parity. Spontaneous symmetry breaking of anti-SU(5) GUT is achieved by the vacuum expectation values of two index antisymmetric tensor Higgs fields ${bf 10}_{+1}$ and $overline{bf 10}_{-1}$ that led to our word `anti-SU(5). In the illustrated example, the multiplicity 3 in one twisted sector allows the permutation symmetry $S_3$ that leads us to select the third family members and one MSSM pair of the Higgs quintets.
