We investigate magnetoassociation of ultracold Feshbach molecules from a Bose- Einstein condensate of Cs atoms and explore the spectrum of weakly bound molecular states close to the atomic threshold. By exploiting the variation of magnetic field experienced by a molecular cloud falling in the presence of a magnetic field gradient, we demonstrate the repeated output coupling of molecules from a single atomic cloud using a Feshbach resonance at 19.89 G. Using this method we are able to produce up to 24 separate pulses of molecules from a single atomic condensate, with a molecular pulse created every 7.2 ms. Furthermore, by careful control of the magnetic bias field and gradient we are able to utilise an avoided crossing in the bound state spectrum at 13.3G to demonstrate exquisite control over the dynamics of the molecular clouds.

We report the production of ultracold heteronuclear Cs$^*$Yb molecules through one-photon photoassociation applied to an ultracold atomic mixture of Cs and Yb confined in an optical dipole trap. We use trap-loss spectroscopy to detect molecular state s below the Cs($^{2}P_{1/2}$) + Yb($^{1}S_{0}$) asymptote. For $^{133}$Cs$^{174}$Yb, we observe 13 rovibrational states with binding energies up to $sim$500 GHz. For each rovibrational state we observe two resonances associated with the Cs hyperfine structure and show that the hyperfine splitting in the diatomic molecule decreases for more deeply bound states. In addition, we produce ultracold fermionic $^{133}$Cs$^{173}$Yb and bosonic $^{133}$Cs$^{172}$Yb and $^{133}$Cs$^{170}$Yb molecules. From mass scaling, we determine the number of bound states supported by the 2(1/2) excited-state potential to be 154 or 155.
We report the observation of interspecies Feshbach resonances in an optically trapped mixture of $^{85}$Rb and $^{133}$Cs. We measure 14 interspecies features in the lowest spin channels for a magnetic field range from 0 to 700 G and show that they a re in good agreement with coupled-channel calculations. The interspecies background scattering length is close to zero over a large range of magnetic fields, permitting the sensitive detection of Feshbach resonances through interspecies thermalisation. Our results confirm the quality of the Rb-Cs potential curves and offer promising starting points for the production of ultracold polar molecules.
We investigate magnetically tunable Feshbach resonances in ultracold collisions between ground-state Yb and Cs atoms, using coupled-channel calculations based on an interaction potential recently determined from photoassociation spectroscopy. We pred ict resonance positions and widths for all stable isotopes of Yb, together with resonance decay parameters where appropriate. The resonance patterns are richer and more complicated for fermionic Yb than for spin-zero isotopes, because there are additional level splittings and couplings due to scalar and tensorial Yb hyperfine interactions. We examine collisions involving Cs atoms in a variety of hyperfine states, and identify resonances that appear most promising for experimental observation and for magnetoassociation to form ultracold CsYb molecules.
We consider the possibilities for producing ultracold mixtures of K and Cs and forming KCs molecules by magnetoassociation. We carry out coupled-channel calculations of the interspecies scattering length for $^{39}$KCs, $^{41}$KCs and $^{40}$KCs and characterize Feshbach resonances due to s-wave and d-wave bound states, with widths ranging from below 1 nG to 5 G. We also calculate the corresponding bound-state energies as a function of magnetic field. We give a general discussion of the combinations of intraspecies and interspecies scattering lengths needed to form low-temperature atomic mixtures and condensates and identify promising strategies for cooling and molecule formation for all three isotopic combinations of K and Cs.
We report the production of a high phase-space density mixture of $^{87}$Rb and $^{133}$Cs atoms in a levitated crossed optical dipole trap as the first step towards the creation of ultracold RbCs molecules via magneto-association. We present a simpl e and robust experimental setup designed for the sympathetic cooling of $^{133}$Cs via interspecies elastic collisions with $^{87}$Rb. Working with the $|F=1, m_F=+1 >$ and the $|3, +3 >$ states of $^{87}$Rb and $^{133}$Cs respectively, we measure a high interspecies three-body inelastic collision rate $sim 10^{-25}-10^{-26} rm{cm}^{6}rm{s}^{-1}$ which hinders the sympathetic cooling. Nevertheless by careful tailoring of the evaporation we can produce phase-space densities near quantum degeneracy for both species simultaneously. In addition we report the observation of an interspecies Feshbach resonance at 181.7(5) G and demonstrate the creation of Cs$_{2}$ molecules via magneto-association on the 4g(4) resonance at 19.8 G. These results represent important steps towards the creation of ultracold RbCs molecules in our apparatus.
