We revisit the discrete additive and multiplicative coalescents, starting with $n$ particles with unit mass. These cases are known to be related to some combinatorial coalescent processes: a time reversal of a fragmentation of Cayley trees or a parking scheme in the additive case, and the random graph process $(G(n,p))_p$ in the multiplicative case. Time being fixed, encoding these combinatorial objects in real-valued processes indexed by the line is the key to describing the asymptotic behaviour of the masses as $nto +infty$. We propose to use the Prim order on the vertices instead of the classical breadth-first (or depth-first) traversal to encode the combinatorial coalescent processes. In the additive case, this yields interesting connections between the different representations of the process. In the multiplicative case, it allows one to answer to a stronger version of an open question of Aldous [Ann. Probab., vol. 25, pp. 812--854, 1997]: we prove that not only the sequence of (rescaled) masses, seen as a process indexed by the time $lambda$, converges in distribution to the reordered sequence of lengths of the excursions above the current minimum of a Brownian motion with parabolic drift $(B_t+lambda t - t^2/2, tgeq 0)$, but we also construct a version of the standard augmented multiplicative coalescent of Bhamidi, Budhiraja and Wang [Probab. Theory Rel., to appear] using an additional Poisson point process.

We consider a natural model of inhomogeneous random graphs that extends the classical ErdH os-Renyi graphs and shares a close connection with the multiplicative coalescence, as pointed out by Aldous [AOP 1997]. In this model, the vertices are assigne d weights that govern their tendency to form edges. It is by looking at the asymptotic distributions of the masses (sum of the weights) of the connected components of these graphs that Aldous and Limic [EJP 1998] have identified the entrance boundary of the multiplicative coalescence, which is intimately related to the excursion lengths of certain Levy-type processes. We, instead, look at the metric structure of these components and prove their Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov convergence to a class of random compact measured metric spaces that have been introduced in a companion paper. Our asymptotic regimes relate directly to the general convergence condition appearing in the work of Aldous and Limic. Our techniques provide a unified approach for this general critical regime, and relies upon two key ingredients: an encoding of the graph by some Levy process as well as an embedding of its connected components into Galton-Watson forests. This embedding transfers asymptotically into an embedding of the limit objects into a forest of Levy trees, which allows us to give an explicit construction of the limit objects from the excursions of the Levy-type process. The mains results combined with the ones in the other paper allow us to extend and complement several previous results that had been obtained via regime-specific proofs, for instance: the case of ErdH os-Renyi random graphs obtained by Addario-Berry, Goldschmidt and B. [PTRF 2012], the asymptotic homogeneous case as studied by Bhamidi, Sen and Wang [PTRF 2017], or the power-law case as considered by Bhamidi, Sen and van der Hofstad [PTRF 2018].
In this paper we show the existence of the minimal solution to the multidimensional Lambert-Euler inversion, a multidimensional generalization of $[-e^{-1} ,0)$ branch of Lambert W function $W_0(x)$. Specifically, for a given nonnegative irreducible symmetric matrix $V in mathbb{R}^{k times k}$, we show that for ${bf u}in(0,infty)^k$, if equation $$y_j exp{-{bf e}_j^T V {bf y} } = u_j ~~~~~~forall j=1,...,k,$$ has at least one solution, it must have a minimal solution ${bf y}^*$, where the minimum is achieved in all coordinates $y_j$ simultaneously. Moreover, such ${bf y}^*$ is the unique solution satisfying $rholeft(V D[y^*_j] right) leq 1$, where $D[y^*_j]={sf diag}(y_j^*)$ is the diagonal matrix with entries $y^*_j$ and $rho$ denotes the spectral radius. Our main application is in the vector-multiplicative coalescent process. It is a coalescent process with $k$ types of particles and vector-valued weights that begins with $alpha_1n+...+alpha_k n$ particles partitioned into types of respective sizes, and in which two clusters of weights ${bf x}$ and ${bf y}$ would merge with rate $({bf x}^{sf T} V {bf y})/n$. We use combinatorics to solve the corresponding modified Smoluchowski equations, obtained as a hydrodynamic limit of vector-multiplicative coalescent as $n to infty$, and use multidimensional Lambert-Euler inversion to establish gelation and find a closed form expression for the gelation time. We also find the asymptotic length of the minimal spanning tree for a broad range of graphs equipped with random edge lengths.
We analyse an additive-increase and multiplicative-decrease (aka growth-collapse) process that grows linearly in time and that experiences downward jumps at Poisson epochs that are (deterministically) proportional to its present position. This proces s is used for example in modelling of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and can be viewed as a particular example of the so-called shot noise model, a basic tool in modeling earthquakes, avalanches and neuron firings. For this process, and also for its reflect
This paper studies the spatial coalescent on $Z^2$. In our setting, the partition elements are located at the sites of $Z^2$ and undergo local delayed coalescence and migration. That is, pairs of partition elements located at the same site coalesce i nto one partition element after exponential waiting times. In addition, the partition elements perform independent random walks. The system starts in either locally finite configurations or in configurations containing countably many partition elements per site. These two situations are relevant if the coalescent is used to study the scaling limits for genealogies in Moran models respectively interacting Fisher-Wright diffusions (or Fleming-Viot processes), which is the key application of the present work. Our goal is to determine the longtime behavior with an initial population of countably many individuals per site restricted to a box $[-t^{alpha/2}, t^{alpha/2}]^2 cap Z^2$ and observed at time $t^beta$ with $1 geq beta geq alphage 0$. We study both asymptotics, as $ttoinfty$, for a fixed value of $alpha$ as the parameter $betain[alpha,1]$ varies, and for a fixed $beta$, as the parameter $alphain [0,beta]$ varies. This exhibits the genealogical structure of the mono-type clusters arising in 2-dimensional Moran and Fisher-Wright systems. (... for more see the actual preprint)
We study sets of recurrence, in both measurable and topological settings, for actions of $(mathbb{N},times)$ and $(mathbb{Q}^{>0},times)$. In particular, we show that autocorrelation sequences of positive functions arising from multiplicative systems have positive additive averages. We also give criteria for when sets of the form ${(an+b)^{ell}/(cn+d)^{ell}: n in mathbb{N}}$ are sets of multiplicative recurrence, and consequently we recover two recent results in number theory regarding completely multiplicative functions and the Omega function.
