We analyze the probability that, for a fixed finite set of primes S, a random, monic, degree n polynomial f(x) with integer coefficients in a box of side B around 0 satisfies: (i) f(x) is irreducible over the rationals, with splitting field over the rationals having Galois group $S_n$; (ii) the polynomial discriminant Disc(f) is relatively prime to all primes in S; (iii) f(x) has a prescribed splitting type at each prime p in S. The limit probabilities as $B to infty$ are described in terms of values of a one-parameter family of measures on $S_n$, called splitting measures, with parameter $z$ evaluated at the primes p in S. We study properties of these measures. We deduce that there exist degree n extensions of the rationals with Galois closure having Galois group $S_n$ with a given finite set of primes S having given Artin symbols, with some restrictions on allowed Artin symbols for p<n. We compare the distributions of these measures with distributions formulated by Bhargava for splitting probabilities for a fixed prime $p$ in such degree $n$ extensions ordered by size of discriminant, conditioned to be relatively prime to $p$.

Period polynomials have long been fruitful tools for the study of values of $L$-functions in the context of major outstanding conjectures. In this paper, we survey some facets of this study from the perspective of Eichler cohomology. We discuss ways to incorporate non-cuspidal modular forms and values of derivatives of $L$-functions into the same framework. We further review investigations of the location of zeros of the period polynomial as well as of its analogue for $L$-derivatives.
We study equivalence classes relating to the Kazhdan-Lusztig mu(x,w) coefficients in order to help explain the scarcity of distinct values. Each class is conjectured to contain a crosshatch pair. We also compute the values attained by mu(x,w) for the permutation groups S_10 and S_11.

Here we consider the degenerate Bernstein polynomials as a degenerate version of Bernstein polynomials, which are motivated by Simseks recent work Generating functions for unification of the multidimensional Bernstein polynomials and their applicatio ns([15,16]) and Carlitzs degenerate Bernoulli polynomials. We derived thier generating function, symmetric identities, recurrence relations, and some connections with generalized falling factorial polynomials, higher-order degenerate Bernoulli polynomials and degenerate Stirling numbers of the second kind.
Let $K/k$ be an extension of number fields. We describe theoretical results and computational methods for calculating the obstruction to the Hasse norm principle for $K/k$ and the defect of weak approximation for the norm one torus $R^1_{K/k} mathbb{ G}_m$. We apply our techniques to give explicit and computable formulae for the obstruction to the Hasse norm principle and the defect of weak approximation when the normal closure of $K/k$ has symmetric or alternating Galois group.

In this note, a criterion for a class of binomials to be permutation polynomials is proposed. As a consequence, many classes of binomial permutation polynomials and monomial complete permutation polynomials are obtained. The exponents in these monomials are of Niho type.
