In order to realize super-high-critical temperature $(T_c)$ superconductors ($T_c$>1,000 K) based on general design rules for negative effective $U$ $(U_{eff})$ systems by controlling purely-electronic and attractive Fermion mechanisms, we perform computational materials design for the negative $U_{eff}$ system in hole-doped two-dimensional (2D) Delafossite CuAlO$_2$, AgAlO$_2$ and AuAlO$_2$ from ${it ab initio}$ calculations. It is found that the large negative $U_{eff}$ in the hole-doped attractive Fermion systems for CuAlO$_2$ ($U_{eff}$ = -4.53 eV), AgAlO$_2$ ($U_{eff}$ = -4.88 eV), AuAlO$_2$ ($U_{eff}$ = -4.14 eV). These values are 10 times larger than that in hole-doped three-dimensional (3D) CuFeS$_2$ ($U_{eff}$ = -0.44 eV). For future calculations of the $T_c$ and phase diagram by quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we propose the negative $U_{eff}$ Hubbard model with the anti-bonding single $pi$-band model for CuAlO$_2$, AgAlO$_2$ and AuAlO$_2$ by using the parameters obtained from ${it ab initio}$ electronic structure calculations. The behavior of $T_c$ in the 2D Delafossite of CuAlO$_2$, AgAlO$_2$ and AuAlO$_2$ and 3D Chalcopyrite of CuFeS$_2$ shows the interesting chemical trend, ${it i.e.,}$ $T_c$ increases exponentially in the weak coupling regime $|U_{eff}| < W$ ($sim$ 2 eV) (where $W$ is the band width of Hubbard model) for the hole-doped CuFeS$_2$, and then $T_c$ goes through a maximum when $|U_{eff}| sim W$ (2.8 eV, 3.5 eV) for the hole-doped AgAlO$_2$ and AuAlO$_2$, and finally $T_c$ decreases with increasing $|U_{eff}|$ in the strong coupling regime, where $|U_{eff}| > W$ (1.7 eV), for the hole-doped CuAlO$_2$. In this strong coupling regime, one can expect that $T_c$ = 1,000 $sim$ 2,000 K by assuming the relation of the very strong coupling as $2Delta / k_{rm B}T_c$ = 50 $sim$100 and the superconducting gap $Delta sim |U_{eff}|$ = 4.53 eV $sim$ 50,000 K.

Among numerous hypotheses, recently proposed to explain superconductivity in iron-based superconductors [1-9], many consider Fermi surface (FS) nesting [2, 4, 8, 10] and dimensionality [4, 9] as important contributors. Precise determination of the el ectronic spectrum and its modification by superconductivity, crucial for further theoretical advance, were hindered by a rich structure of the FS [11-17]. Here, using the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with resolution of all three components of electron momentum and electronic states symmetry, we disentangle the electronic structure of hole-doped BaFe2As2, and show that nesting and dimensionality of FS sheets have no immediate relation to the superconducting pairing. Alternatively a clear correlation between the orbital character of the electronic states and their propensity to superconductivity is observed: the magnitude of the superconducting gap maximizes at 10.5 meV exclusively for iron 3dxz;yz orbitals, while for others drops to 3.5 meV. Presented results reveal similarities of electronic response to superconducting and magneto-structural transitions [18, 19], implying that relation between these two phases is more intimate than just competition for FS, and demonstrate importance of orbital physics in iron superconductors.

We show, from first-principles calculations, that the hole-doped side of FeAs-based compounds is different from its electron-doped counterparts. The electron side is characterized as Fermi surface nesting, and SDW-to-NM quantum critical point (QCP) i s realized by doping. For the hole-doped side, on the other hand, orbital-selective partial orbital ordering develops together with checkboard antiferromagnetic (AF) ordering without lattice distortion. A unique SDW-to-AF QCP is achieved, and $J_2$=$J_1/2$ criteria (in the approximate $J_1&J_2$ model) is satisfied. The observed superconductivity is located in the vicinity of QCP for both sides.
X-ray scattering measurements on optimally-doped single crystal samples of the high temperature superconductor Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+delta}$ reveal the presence of three distinct incommensurate charge modulations, each involving a roughly fivefol d increase in the unit cell dimension along the {bf b}-direction. The strongest scattering comes from the well known (H, K$pm$ 0.21, L) modulation and its harmonics. However, we also observe broad diffraction which peak up at the L values complementary to those which characterize the known modulated structure. These diffraction features correspond to correlation lengths of roughly a unit cell dimension, $xi_c$$sim$20 $AA$ in the {bf c} direction, and of $xi_b$$sim$ 185 $AA$ parallel to the incommensurate wavevector. We interpret these features as arising from three dimensional incommensurate domains and the interfaces between them, respectively. In addition we investigate the recently discovered incommensuate modulations which peak up at (1/2, K$pm$ 0.21, L) and related wavevectors. Here we explicitly study the L-dependence of this scattering and see that these charge modulations are two dimensional in nature with weak correlations on the scale of a bilayer thickness, and that they correspond to short range, isotropic correlation lengths within the basal plane. We relate these new incommensurate modulations to the electronic nanostructure observed in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+delta}$ using STM topography.
In order to investigate whether magnetism and superconductivity coexist in Co-doped SrFe$_2$As$_2$, we have prepared single crystals of SrFe$_{2-x}$Co$_x$As$_2$, $x$ = 0 and 0.4, and characterized them via X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity in zero and applied field up to 9 T as well as at ambient and applied pressure up to 1.6 GPa, and magnetic susceptibility. At $x$ = 0.4, there is both magnetic and resistive evidence for a spin density wave transition at 120 K, while $T_c$ = 19.5 K - indicating coexistent magnetism and superconductivity. A discussion of how these results compare with reported results, both in SrFe$_{2-x}$Co$_x$As$_2$ and in other doped 122 compounds, is given.
The local structures of 122-type paradium arsenides, namely BaPd$_2$As$_2$ and SrPd$_2$As$_2$, are examined by As K-edge extended x-ray absorption fine structure measurements to find a possible correlation between the variation of their superconducti ng transition temperature and the local structure. The local atomic distances are found to be consistent with average distances measured by diffraction techniques. The temperature dependence of mean square relative displacements reveal that, while BaPd$_2$As$_2$ is characterized by a local As-Pd soft mode, albeit with larger atomic disorder, SrPd$_2$As$_2$ shows anomalous As-Pd correlations with a kink at $sim$160 K due to hardening by raising temperature. We have discussed implications of these results and possible mechanism of differing superconducting transition temperature in relation with the structural instability.
