We obtain a simple analytic expression for the high energy $gamma^* gamma^*$ scattering cross section at the next-to-leading order in the logarithms-of-energy power counting. To this end we employ the eigenfunctions of the NLO BFKL equation constructed in our previous paper. We also construct the eigenfunctions of the NNLO BFKL kernel and obtain a general form of the solution for the NNLO BFKL equation, which confirms the ansatz proposed in our previous paper.

We present a numerical estimate of the $gamma^* gamma^*$ total cross section at the designed 500 GeV $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider, based upon the BFKL Pomeron. We find that the event rate is substantial provided electrons scattered under small angles can be detected, and a measurement of this cross section provides an excellent test of the BFKL Pomeron.

The total $gamma^*gamma^*$ cross-section is derived in the Leading Order QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics, and compared with the one from 2-gluon exchange. The Double Leading Logarithm approximation of the DGLAP cross-section is found to be small in the phase space studied. Cross sections are calculated for realistic data samples at the $e^+e^-$ collider LEP and a future high energy linear collider. Next to Leading order corrections to the BFKL evolution have been determined phenomenologically, and are found to give very large corrections to the BFKL cross-section, leading to a reduced sensitivity for observing BFKL.

We study jet physics in the high energy regime of QCD. Based on the NLO BFKL equation, we construct a vertex for the production of a jet at central rapidity in k_T-factorization. A jet algorithm is introduced, and we take special care of the separati on of multi-Regge and quasi-multi-Regge kinematics. The connection with the energy scale of the evolution is investigated in detail. The result is discussed for two situations: scattering of highly virtual photons, which requires a symmetric energy scale to separate the impact factors from the gluon Greens function, and hadron-hadron collisions, where a non-symmetric scale choice is needed. For the second case we are able to define a NLO unintegrated gluon density, valid in the small-x regime, and give the evolution equation for this density as well. In the second part, we examine the angular decorrelation of Mueller-Navelet jets. Using an operator formalism in the space of anomalous dimension and conformal spin, we implement the NLO BFKL Greens function to study the rapidity dependence of angular decorrelations. We incorporate the necessary summation of collinearly enhanced corrections beyond NLO accuracy. We compare our results with data from the Tevatron ppbar-collider and provide predictions for the LHC as well. We also extend our study to the angular decorrelation between a forward jets and the electron in deep inelastic ep scattering. The angular decorrelation has not been measured in DIS so far, but we give theoretical results for this observable which already implement the experimental cuts.
With the goal of increasing the precision of NLO QCD predictions for the $ppto tbar{t} gamma$ process in the di-lepton top quark decay channel we present theoretical predictions for the ${cal R}= sigma_{tbar{t}gamma}/sigma_{tbar{t}}$ cross section ra tio. Results for the latter together with various differential cross section ratios are given for the LHC with the Run II energy of $sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. Fully realistic NLO computations for $tbar{t}$ and $tbar{t}gamma$ production are employed. They are based on matrix elements for $e^+ u_e mu^- bar{ u}_mu bbar{b}$ and $e^+ u_e mu^- bar{ u}_mu bbar{b}gamma$ processes and include all resonant and non-resonant diagrams, interferences, and off-shell effects of the top quarks and the $W$ gauge bosons. Various renormalisation and factorisation scale choices and parton density functions are examined to assess their impact on the cross section ratio. Depending on the transverse momentum cut on the hard photon a judicious choice of a dynamical scale allows us to obtain $1%-3%$ percent precision on ${cal R}$. Moreover, for differential cross section ratios theoretical uncertainties in the range of $1%-6%$ have been estimated. Until now such high precision predictions have only been reserved for the top quark pair production at NNLO QCD. Thus, ${cal R}$ at NLO in QCD represents a very precise observable to be measured at the LHC for example to study the top quark charge asymmetry or to probe the strength and the structure of the $t$-$bar{t}$-$gamma$ vertex. The latter can shed some light on possible new physics that can reveal itself only once sufficiently precise theoretical predictions are available.
The flux of 7Be and 8B neutrinos from the Sun and the production of 7Li via primordial nucleosynthesis depend on the rate of the 3He(alpha,gamma)7Be reaction. In extension of a previous study showing cross section data at 127 - 167 keV center of mass energy, the present work reports on a measurement of the 3He(alpha,gamma)7Be cross section at 106 keV performed at Italys Gran Sasso underground laboratory by the activation method. This energy is closer to the solar Gamow energy than ever reached before. The result is sigma = 0.567 +- 0.029(stat) +- 0.016(syst) nbarn. The data are compared with previous activation studies at high energy, and a recommended S(0) value for all 3He(alpha,gamma)7Be activation studies, including the present work, is given.
