We present a practical approach to the numerical optimisation of the guiding properties of buried microstructured waveguides, which can be fabricated in a z-cut lithium niobate (LiNbO3) crystal by the method of direct femtosecond laser inscription. We demonstrate the possibility to extend the spectral range of low-loss operation of the waveguide into the mid-infrared region beyond 3{mu}m.
We report two novel fabrication techniques, as well as spectral transmission and propagation loss measurements of the subwavelength plastic wires with highly porous (up to 86%) and non-porous transverse geometries. The two fabrication techniques we d
The control of light by light is one of the main aims in modern photonics. In this context, a fundamental cornerstone is the realization of light-written waveguides in real time, resulting in all-optical reconfigurability of communication networks. L
We observe the dynamics of pulse trapping in a microstructured fiber. Few-cycle pulses create a system of two pulses: a Raman shifting soliton traps a pulse in the normal dispersion regime. When the soliton approaches a wavelength of zero group veloc
Optical fibre-based sensors measuring refractive index shift in bodily fluids and tissues are versatile and accurate probes of physiological processes. Here, we suggest a refractive index sensor based on a microstructured exposed-core fibre (ECF). By
We consider two-dimensional Schroedinger operators with an attractive potential in the form of a channel of a fixed profile built along an unbounded curve composed of a circular arc and two straight semi-lines. Using a test-function argument with hel
