Quantum oscillation measurements can provide important information about the Fermi surface (FS) properties of strongly correlated metals. Here, we report a Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) effect study on the pnictide parent compounds EuFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ (Eu122) and BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ (Ba122) grown by In-flux. Although both members are isovalent compounds with approximately the same density of states at the Fermi level, our results reveal subtle changes in their fermiology. Eu122 displays a complex pattern in the Fourier spectrum, with band splitting, magnetic breakdown orbits, and effective masses sistematically larger when compared to Ba122, indicating that the former is a more correlated metal. Moreover, the observed pockets in Eu122 are more isotropic and 3D-like, suggesting an equal contribution from the Fe $3d$ orbitals to the FS. We speculate that these FS changes may be responsible for the higher spin-density wave ordering temperature in Eu122.

In this work, fabrication and characterization of magnetic properties of EuFe2As2 and EuRbFe4As4 single crystals is reported. Magnetization measurements of samples with well defined thin film geometry and crystal orientation demonstrate a striking si milarity in ferromagnetic properties of Eu subsystems in these two compounds. Measurements with magnetic field applied along ab crystal planes reveal meta-magnetic transition in both compounds. Numerical studies employing the Jz1-Jz2 Heisenberg model suggest that the ground state of the magnetic order in Eu subsystem for both compounds is the helical spin order with the helical angle about 2pi/5, while the meta-magnetic transition is the helix-to-fan first order phase transition.

High-pressure electrical resistivity measurements up to 3.0GPa have been performed on EuFe2As2 single crystals with residual resistivity ratios RRR=7 and 15. At ambient pressure, a magnetic / structural transition related to FeAs-layers is observed a t T0 =190K and 194K for samples with RRR=7 and 15, respectively. Application of hydrostatic pressure suppresses T0, and then induces similar superconducting behavior in the samples with different RRR values. However, the critical pressure 2.7GPa, where T0=0, for the samples with RRR=15 is slightly but distinctly larger than 2.5GPa for the samples with RRR=7.
Deterministic oscillations of current-induced metastable resistivity in changing voltage have been detected in La$_{0.82}$Ca$_{0.18}$MnO$_3$ single crystals. At low temperatures, below the Curie point, application of specific bias procedures switches the crystal into metastable resistivity state characterized by appearance of pronounced reproducible and random structures in the voltage dependence of the differential conductivity. In certain bias range equally spaced broad conductivity peaks have been observed. The oscillating conductivity has been tentatively ascribed to resonances in a quantum well within the double tunnel barrier of intrinsic weak-links associated with twin-like defect boundaries.
Compounds based on the Fe2P structure have continued to attract interest because of the interplay between itinerant and localized magnetism in a non-centrosymmetric crystal structure, and because of the recent developments of these materials for magn etocaloric applications. Here we report the growth and characterization of mm size single crystals of FeMnP0.8Si0.2. Single crystal x-ray diffraction, magnetization, resistivity, Hall and heat capacity data are reported. Surprisingly, the crystals exhibit itinerant antiferromagnetic order below 158 K with no hint of ferromagnetic behavior in the magnetization curves and with the spins ordered primarily in the ab plane. The room temperature resistivity is close to the Ioffe-Regel limit for a metal. Single crystal x-ray diffraction indicates a strong preference for Mn to occupy the larger pyramidal 3g site. The cation site preference in the as-grown crystals and the antiferromagnetism are not changed after high temperature anneals and a rapid quench to room temperature.

We report the temperature-pressure (T-P) phase diagram of CePt2In7 single crystals, especially the pressure evolution of the antiferromagnetic order and the emergence of superconductivity, which have been studied by electrical resistivity and ac calo rimetry under nearly hydrostatic environments. Compared with its polycrystalline counterpart, bulk superconductivity coexists with antiferromagnetism in a much narrower pressure region. The possible existence of textured superconductivity and local quantum criticality also are observed in CePt2In7, exhibiting a remarkable similarity with CeRhIn5.
