The bulk single crystals of of low-dimensional magnet (CH$_3$)$_2$NH$_2$CuCl$_3$ (DMACuCl$_3$ or MCCL) are grown by a slow evaporation method with different kinds of solvents, different degrees of super-saturation of solution and different temperatures of solution, respectively. Among three kinds of solvent, methanol, alcohol and water, alcohol is found to be the best one for growing MCCL crystals because of its structural similarity to the raw materials and suitable evaporation rate. The best growth temperature is in the vicinity of 35 $^{circ}$C. The problem of the crystals deliquescing in air has been solved through recrystallization process. The crystals are characterized by means of x-ray diffraction, specific heat and magnetic susceptibility.

Dimethylammonium zinc formate (DMAZnF) is the precursor for a large family of multiferroics, materials which display co-existing magnetic and dielectric ordering. However, the mechanism underlying these orderings remains unclear. While it is generall y believed that the dielectric transition is related to the freezing of the order-disorder dynamics of the dimethylammonium (DMA+) cation, no quantitative data on this motion are available. We surmise that this is due to the fact that the timescale of this cationic motion is on the borderline of the timescales of experimental techniques used in earlier reports. Using multifrequency EPR, we find that the timescale of this motion is ~ 5 x 10 -9 s. Thus, S-band (4 GHz) EPR spectroscopy is presented as the technique of choice for studying these motional dynamics. This work highlights the value of the lower-frequency end of EPR spectroscopy. The data are interpreted using DFT calculations and provide direct evidence for the motional freezing model of the ferroelectric transition in these metal-organic frameworks with the ABX3 perovskite-like architecture.
The Mott-insulating rare-earth titanates (RTiO$_3$, R being a rare-earth ion) are an important class of materials that encompasses interesting spin-orbital phases as well as ferromagnet-antiferromagnet and insulator-metal transitions. The growth of t hese materials has been plagued by difficulties related to overoxidation, which arises from a strong tendency of Ti$^{3+}$ to oxidize to Ti$^{4+}$. We describe our efforts to grow sizable single crystals of YTiO$_3$ and its La-substituted and Ca-doped variants with the optical travelling-solvent floating-zone technique. We present sample characterization $via$ chemical composition analysis, magnetometry, charge transport, neutron scattering, x-ray absorption spectroscopy and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism to understand macroscopic physical property variations associated with overoxidation. Furthermore, we demonstrate a good signal-to-noise ratio in inelastic magnetic neutron scattering measurements of spin-wave excitations. A superconducting impurity phase, found to appear in Ca-doped samples at high doping levels, is identified as TiO.

The bulk single crystals of $S = 1$ chain compound Ni(C$_3$H$_{10}$N$_2$)$_2$NO$_2$ClO$_4$ are grown by using a slow evaporation method at a constant temperature and a slow cooling method. It is found that the optimum condition of growing large cryst als is via slow evaporation at 25 $^circ$C using 0.015 mol Ni(ClO$_4$)$_2$$cdot$6H$_2$O, 0.015 mol NaNO$_2$, and 0.03 mol 1,3-propanediamine liquid dissolved into 30 ml aqueous solvent. High-quality crystals with size up to $18 times 7.5 times 5$ mm$^3$ are obtained. The single crystals are characterized by measurements of x-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and thermal conductivity. The susceptibilities along three crystallographic axes are found to exhibit broad peaks at $sim 55$ K, and then decrease abruptly to zero at lower temperatures, which is characteristic of a Haldane chain system. The specific heat and the thermal conductivity along the $c$ axis can be attributed to the simple phononic contribution and are analyzed using the Debye approximation.
We present the observational result of a glycine precursor, methylamine (CH$_3$NH$_2$), together with methanol (CH$_3$OH) and methanimine (CH$_2$NH) towards high-mass star-forming regions, NGC6334I, G10.47+0.03, G31.41+0.3, and W51~e1/e2 using ALMA. The molecular abundances toward these sources were derived using the rotational diagram method and compared with our state-of-the-art chemical model. We found that the observed ratio of CH$_3$NH$_2$/CH$_3$OH is in between 0.11 and 2.2. We also found that the observed CH$_3$NH$_2$/CH$_3$OH ratio agrees well with our chemical model by considering the formation of CH$_3$NH$_2$ on the grain surface via hydrogenation process to HCN. This result clearly shows the importance of hydrogenation processes to form CH$_3$NH$_2$. NGC63343I MM3, where CH$_3$NH$_2$ was not detected in this study and showed CH$_3$NH$_2$/CH$_3$OH ratio of less than 0.02, is clearly distinguished from the other cores.
We have synthesized single crystals of CeZnAl$_3$, which is a new member of the family of the Ce-based intermetallics Ce$TX_3$ ($T$ = transition metal, $X$= Si, Ge, Al), crystallizing in the non-centrosymmetric tetragonal BaNiSn$_3$-type structure. M agnetization, specific heat and resistivity measurements all show that CeZnAl$_3$ orders magnetically below around 4.4 K. Furthermore, magnetization measurements exhibit a hysteresis loop at low temperatures and fields, indicating the presence of a ferromagnetic component in the magnetic state. This points to a different nature of the magnetism in CeZnAl$_3$ compared to the other isostructural Ce$T$Al$_3$ compounds. Resistivity measurements under pressures up to 1.8 GPa show a moderate suppression of the ordering temperature with pressure, suggesting that measurements to higher pressures are required to look for quantum critical behavior.
