We extend our recent work on the quasilocal formulation of conserved charges to a theory of gravity containing a gravitational Chern-Simons term. As an application of our formulation, we compute the off-shell potential and quasilocal conserved charges of some black holes in three-dimensional topologically massive gravity. Our formulation for conserved charges reproduces very effectively the well-known expressions on conserved charges and the entropy expression of black holes in the topologically massive gravity.

We study static black hole solutions with locally spherical horizons coupled to non-Abelian field in $mathcal{N}=4$ Chern-Simons AdS$_5$ supergravity. They are governed by three parameters associated to the mass, axial torsion and amplitude of the in ternal soliton, and two ones to the gravitational hair. They describe geometries that can be a global AdS space, naked singularity or a (non-)extremal black hole. We analyze physical properties of two inequivalent asymptotically AdS solutions when the spatial section at radial infinity is either a 3-sphere or a projective 3-space. An important feature of these 3-parametric solutions is that they possess a topological structure including two $SU(2)$ solitons that wind nontrivially around the black hole horizon, as characterized by the Pontryagin index. In the extremal black hole limit, the solitons strengths match and a soliton-antisoliton system unwinds. That limit admits both non-BPS and BPS configurations. For the latter, the pure gauge and non-pure gauge solutions preserve $1/2$ and $1/16$ of the original supersymmetries, respectively. In a general case, we compute conserved charges in Hamiltonian formalism, finding many similarities with standard supergravity black holes.
We study non-Einstein Bach-flat gravitational instanton solutions that can be regarded as the generalization of the Taub-NUT/Bolt and Eguchi-Hanson solutions of Einstein gravity to conformal gravity. These solutions include non-Einstein spaces which are either asymptotically locally flat spacetimes (ALF) or asymptotically locally Anti-de Sitter (AlAdS). Nevertheless, solutions with different asymptotic conditions exist: we find geometries that present a weakened AlAdS asymptotia, exhibiting the typical low decaying mode of conformal gravity. This permits to identify the simple Neumann boundary condition that, as it happens in the asymptotically AdS sector, selects the Einstein solution out of the solutions of conformal gravity. All the geometries present non-vanishing Hirzebruch signature and Euler characteristic, being single-centered instantons. We compute the topological charges as well as the Noether charges of the Taub-NUT/Bolt and Eguchi-Hanson spacetimes, which happen to be finite. This enables us to study the thermodynamic properties of these geometries.

Introducing a chemical potential in the functional method, we construct the effective action of QED$_3$ with a Chern-Simons term. We examine a possibility that charge condensation $langlepsi^daggerpsi rangle$ remains nonzero at the limit of the zero chemical potential. If it happens, spontaneous magnetization occurs due to the Gauss law constraint which connects the charge condensation to the background magnetic field. It is found that the stable vacuum with nonzero charge condensation is realized only when fermion masses are sent to zero, keeping it lower than the chemical potential. This result suggests that the spontaneous magnetization is closely related to the fermion mass.

We show that conformal Chern-Simons gravity in three dimensions has various holographic descriptions. They depend on the boundary conditions on the conformal equivalence class and the Weyl factor, even when the former is restricted to asymptotic Anti -deSitter behavior. For constant or fixed Weyl factor our results agree with a suitable scaling limit of topologically massive gravity results. For varying Weyl factor we find an enhancement of the asymptotic symmetry group, the details of which depend on certain choices. We focus on a particular example where an affine u(1) algebra related to holomorphic Weyl rescalings shifts one of the central charges by 1. The Weyl factor then behaves as a free chiral boson in the dual conformal field theory.
We present a method for finding, in principle, all asymptotic gravitational charges. The basic idea is that one must consider all possible contributions to the action that do not affect the equations of motion for the theory of interest; such terms i nclude topological terms. As a result we observe that the first order formalism is best suited to an analysis of asymptotic charges. In particular, this method can be used to provide a Hamiltonian derivation of recently found dual charges.
