The unambiguous detection and quantification of entanglement is a hot topic of scientific research, though it is limited to low dimensions or specific classes of states. Here we identify an additional class of quantum states, for which bipartite entanglement measures can be efficiently computed, providing new rigorous results. Such states are written in arbitrary $dtimes d$ dimensions, where each basis state in the subsystem A is paired with only one state in B. This new class, that we refer to as pair basis states, is remarkably relevant in many physical situations, including quantum optics. We find that negativity is a necessary and sufficient measure of entanglement for mixtures of states written in the same pair basis. We also provide analytical expressions for a tight lower-bound estimation of the entanglement of formation, a central quantity in quantum information.

Multipartite entanglement tomography, namely the quantum Fisher information (QFI) calculated with respect to different collective operators, allows to fully characterize the phase diagram of the quantum Ising chain in a transverse field with variable -range coupling. In particular, it recognizes the phase stemming from long-range antiferromagnetic coupling, a capability also shared by the spin squeezing. Furthermore, the QFI locates the quantum critical points, both with vanishing and nonvanishing mass gap. In this case, we also relate the finite-size power-law exponent of the QFI to the critical exponents of the model, finding a signal for the breakdown of conformal invariance in the deep long-range regime. Finally, the effect of a finite temperature on the multipartite entanglement, and ultimately on the phase stability, is considered. In light of the current realizations of the model with trapped ions and of the potential measurability of the QFI, our approach yields a promising strategy to probe long-range physics in controllable quantum systems.
Two component (spinor) Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) are considered as the nodes of an interconnected quantum network. Unlike standard single-system qubits, in a BEC the quantum information is duplicated in a large number of identical bosonic part icles, thus can be considered to be a macroscopic qubit. One of the difficulties with such a system is how to effectively interact such qubits together in order to transfer quantum information and create entanglement. Here we propose a scheme of cavities containing spinor BECs coupled by optical fiber in order to achieve this task. We discuss entanglement generation and quantum state transfer between nodes using such macroscopic BEC qubits.

We provide a Mathematica code for decomposing strongly correlated quantum states described by a first-quantized, analytical wave function into many-body Fock states. Within them, the single-particle occupations refer to the subset of Fock-Darwin func tions with no nodes. Such states, commonly appearing in two-dimensional systems subjected to gauge fields, were first discussed in the context of quantum Hall physics and are nowadays very relevant in the field of ultracold quantum gases. As important examples, we explicitly apply our decomposition scheme to the prominent Laughlin and Pfaffian states. This allows for easily calculating the overlap between arbitrary states with these highly correlated test states, and thus provides a useful tool to classify correlated quantum systems. Furthermore, we can directly read off the angular momentum distribution of a state from its decomposition. Finally we make use of our code to calculate the normalization factors for Laughlins famous quasi-particle/quasi-hole excitations, from which we gain insight into the intriguing fractional behavior of these excitations.
The most general quantum object that can be shared between two distant parties is a bipartite channel, as it is the basic element to construct all quantum circuits. In general, bipartite channels can produce entangled states, and can be used to simul ate quantum operations that are not local. While much effort over the last two decades has been devoted to the study of entanglement of bipartite states, very little is known about the entanglement of bipartite channels. In this work, we rigorously study the entanglement of bipartite channels as a resource theory of quantum processes. We present an infinite and complete family of measures of dynamical entanglement, which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for convertibility under local operations and classical communication. Then we focus on the dynamical resource theory where free operations are positive partial transpose (PPT) superchannels, but we do not assume that they are realized by PPT pre- and post-processing. This leads to a greater mathematical simplicity that allows us to express all resource protocols and the relevant resource measures in terms of semi-definite programs. Along the way, we generalize the negativity from states to channels, and introduce the max-logarithmic negativity, which has an operational interpretation as the exact asymptotic entanglement cost of a bipartite channel. Finally, we use the non-positive partial transpose (NPT) resource theory to derive a no-go result: it is impossible to distill entanglement out of bipartite PPT channels under any sets of free superchannels that can be used in entanglement theory. This allows us to generalize one of the long-standing open problems in quantum information - the NPT bound entanglement problem - from bipartite states to bipartite channels. It further leads us to the discovery of bound entangled POVMs.

A Bose-Einstein condensate of ultracold atoms inside the field of a laser-driven optical cavity exhibits dispersive optical bistability. We describe this system by using mean-field approximation and by analyzing the correlation functions of the linea rized quantum fluctuations around the mean-field solution. The entanglement and the statistics of the atom-field quadratures are given in the stationary state. It is shown that the mean-field solution, i.e. the Bose-Einstein condensate is robust against entanglement generation for most part of the phase diagram.
