We present a study of higher order QCD corrections beyond NLO to processes with an electroweak vector boson, W or Z, in association with jets. We focus on the regions of high transverse momenta of commonly used differential distributions. We employ the LoopSim method to merge NLO samples of different multiplicity obtained from MCFM and from BLACKHAT+SHERPA in order to compute the dominant part of the NNLO corrections for high-pT observables. We find that these corrections are indeed substantial for a number of experimentally relevant observables. For other observables, they lead to significant reduction of scale uncertainties.

In this contribution we present recent progress in the computation of next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections for the production of an electroweak vector boson in association with jets at hadron colliders. We focus on results obtained using the v irtual matrix element library BLACKHAT in conjunction with SHERPA, focusing on results relevant to understanding the background to top production.
Extraction of the strange quark PDF is a long-standing puzzle. We use the nCTEQ nPDFs with uncertainties to study the impact of the LHC W/Z production data on both the flavor differentiation and nuclear corrections; this complements the information f rom neutrino-DIS data. As the proton flavor determination is dependent on nuclear corrections (from heavy target DIS, for example), LHC heavy ion measurements can also help improve proton PDFs. We introduce a new implementation of the nCTEQ code (nCTEQ++) based on C++ which has a modular strucure and enables us to easily integrate programs such as HOPPET, APPLgrid, and MCFM. Using ApplGrids generated from MCFM, we use nCTEQ++ to perform a preliminary fit including the pPb LHC W/Z vector boson data.

The production of pairs of Higgs bosons at hadron colliders provides unique information on the Higgs sector and on the mechanism underlying electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB). Most studies have concentrated on the gluon fusion production mode which has the largest cross section. However, despite its small production rate, the vector-boson fusion channel can also be relevant since even small modifications of the Higgs couplings to vector bosons induce a striking increase of the cross section as a function of the invariant mass of the Higgs boson pair. In this work, we exploit this unique signature to propose a strategy to extract the $hhVV$ quartic coupling and provide model-independent constraints on theories where EWSB is driven by new strong interactions. We take advantage of the higher signal yield of the $bbar b bbar b$ final state and make extensive use of jet substructure techniques to reconstruct signal events with a boosted topology, characteristic of large partonic energies, where each Higgs boson decays to a single collimated jet . Our results demonstrate that the $hhVV$ coupling can be measured with 45% (20%) precision at the LHC for $mathcal{L}=$ 300 (3000) fb$^{-1}$, while a 1% precision can be achieved at a 100 TeV collider.
The TauSpinner algorithm allows to modify the physics of the Monte Carlo generated samples due to the changed assumptions of event production dynamics, without re-generating events. To each event it attributes weights: the spin effects of tau-lepton production or decay, or the production mechanism are modified. There is no need to repeat the detector response simulation. We document the extension to 2 to 4 processes in which the matrix elements for the parton-parton scattering amplitudes into a tau-lepton pair and two outgoing partons are used. Tree-level matrix elements for the Standard Model processes, including the Higgs boson production are used. Automatically generated codes by MadGraph5 have been adapted. Tests of the matrix elements, reweighting algorithm and numerical results are presented. For averaged tau lepton polarisation, we perform comparison of 2 to 2 and 2 to 4 matrix elements used to calculate the spin weight in pp to tau tau j j events. We show, that for events with tau-lepton pair close to the Z-boson peak, the tau-lepton polarisation calculated using 2 to 4 matrix elements is very close to the one calculated using 2 to 2 Born process only. For the m_(tautau) masses above the Z-boson peak, the effect from including 2 to 4 matrix elements is also marginal, however when restricting into subprocesses qq,q bar q to tau tau j j only, it can lead to a 10% difference on the predicted tau-lepton polarisation. Choice of electroweak scheme can have significant impact. The modification of the electroweak or strong interaction can be performed with the re-weighting technique. TauSpinner v.2.0.0, allows to introduce non-standard couplings for the Higgs boson and study their effects in the vector-boson-fusion. The discussion is relegated to forthcoming publications.
We consider the production of Wgamma and Zgamma pairs at the LHC, and report on the fully differential computation of next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) corrections in QCD perturbation theory. The calculation includes leptonic vector-boson decays w ith the corresponding spin correlations, off-shell effects and final-state photon radiation. We present numerical results for pp collisions at 7 TeV, and compare them with available ATLAS data. In the case of Zgamma production, the impact of NNLO corrections is generally moderate, ranging from 8% to 17%, depending on the applied cuts. In the case of Wgamma production, the NNLO effects are more important, and range from 19% to 26%, thereby improving the agreement of the theoretical predictions with the data. As expected, a veto against jets significantly reduces the impact of QCD radiative corrections.
