The superconformal index for N=2 5d theories contains a non-perturbative part arising from 5d instantonic operators which coincides with the Nekrasov instanton partition function. In this note, for pure gauge theories, we elaborate on the relation between such instanton index and the Hilbert series of the instanton moduli space. We propose a non-trivial identification of fugacities allowing the computation of the instanton index through the Hilbert series. We show the agreement of our proposal with existing results in the literature, as well as use it to compute the exact index for a pure U(1) gauge theory.

We propose a set of novel expansions of Nekrasovs instanton partition functions. Focusing on 5d supersymmetric pure Yang-Mills theory with unitary gauge group on $mathbb{C}^2_{q,t^{-1}} times mathbb{S}^1$, we show that the instanton partition functio n admits expansions in terms of partition functions of unitary gauge theories living on the 3d subspaces $mathbb{C}_{q} times mathbb{S}^1$, $mathbb{C}_{t^{-1}} times mathbb{S}^1$ and their intersection along $mathbb{S}^1$. These new expansions are natural from the BPS/CFT viewpoint, as they can be matched with $W_{q,t}$ correlators involving an arbitrary number of screening charges of two kinds. Our constructions generalize and interpolate existing results in the literature.
We derive new explicit results for the Hilbert series of N=1 supersymmetric QCD with U(N_c) and SU(N_c) color symmetry. We use two methods which have previously been applied to similar computational problems in the analysis of decay of unstable D-bra nes: expansions using Schur polynomials, and the log-gas approach related to random matrix theory.
We clarify certain aspects of instanton operators in five-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories. In particular, we show how, in the pointlike limit, they become supersymmetric and provide the natural bridge with the instantonic states contributin g to the index as well as with the zero mode counting leading to broken current multiplets.
We describe how simple machine learning methods successfully predict geometric properties from Hilbert series (HS). Regressors predict embedding weights in projective space to ${sim}1$ mean absolute error, whilst classifiers predict dimension and Gor enstein index to $>90%$ accuracy with ${sim}0.5%$ standard error. Binary random forest classifiers managed to distinguish whether the underlying HS describes a complete intersection with high accuracies exceeding $95%$. Neural networks (NNs) exhibited success identifying HS from a Gorenstein ring to the same order of accuracy, whilst generation of fake HS proved trivial for NNs to distinguish from those associated to the three-dimensional Fano varieties considered.
We study cold nuclear matter based on the holographic gauge theory, where baryons are introduced as the instantons in the probe D8/D8 branes according to the Sakai-Sugimoto model. Within a dilute gas approximation of instantons, we search for the sta ble states via the variational method and fix the instanton size. We find the first order phase transition from the vacuum to the nuclear matter phase as we increase the chemical potential. At the critical chemical potential, we could see a jump in the baryon density from zero to a finite definite value. While the size of the baryon in the nuclear matter is rather small compared to the nucleus near the transition point, where the charge density is also small, it increases with the baryon density. Those behaviors obtained here are discussed by relating them to the force between baryons.
