A search for the neutron-unbound nucleus $^{21}$C was performed via the single proton removal reaction from a beam of 22 N at 68 MeV/u. Neutrons were detected with the Modular Neutron Array (MoNA) in coincidence with $^{20}$C fragments. No evidence for a low-lying state was found, and the reconstructed $^{20}$C+n decay energy spectrum could be described with an s-wave line shape with a scattering length limit of |as| < 2.8 fm, consistent with shell model predictions. A comparison with a renormalized zero-range three-body model suggests that $^{22}$C is bound by less than 70 keV.

Production cross sections of charged pions, kaons and antikaons have been measured in C+C and C+Au collisions at beam energies of 1.0 and 1.8 AGeV for different polar emission angles. The kaon and antikaon energy spectra can be described by Boltzmann distributions whereas the pion spectra exhibit an additional enhancement at low energies. The pion multiplicity per participating nucleon M(pi+)/A_part is a factor of about 3 smaller in C+Au than in C+C collisions at 1.0 AGeV whereas it differs only little for the C and the Au target at a beam energy of 1.8 AGeV. The K+ multiplicities per participating nucleon M(K+)/A_part are independent of the target size at 1 AGeV and at 1.8 AGeV. The K- multiplicity per participating nucleon M(K-)/A_part is reduced by a factor of about 2 in C+Au as compared to C+C collisions at 1.8 AGeV. This effect might be caused by the absorption of antikaons in the heavy target nucleus. Transport model calculations underestimate the K-/K+ ratio for C+C collisions at 1.8 AGeV by a factor of about 4 if in-medium modifications of K mesons are neglected.
We present the first detailed measurement of incoherent photoproduction of neutral pions to a discrete state of a residual nucleus. The $^{12}$C$(gamma,pi^{0})^{12}$C$^{*}_{4.4MeV}$ reaction has been studied with the Glasgow photon tagger at MAMI emp loying a new technique which uses the large solid angle Crystal Ball detector both as a $pi^{0}$ spectrometer and to detect decay photons from the excited residual nucleus. The technique has potential applications to a broad range of future nuclear measurements with the Crystal Ball and similar detector systems elsewhere. The data are sensitive to the propagation of the $Delta$ in the nuclear medium and will give the first information on matter transition form factors from measurements with an electromagnetic probe. The incoherent cross sections are compared to two theoretical predictions including a $Delta$-hole model.
The first search for $Z_{c}$ pair production in $Upsilon(1S)$ and $Upsilon(2S)$ decays and in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation at $sqrt{s}$ = 10.52, 10.58, and 10.867 GeV is conducted using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energ y electron-positron collider. No significant signals are observed in any of the studied modes, and the 90% credibility level upper limits on their product branching fractions in $Upsilon(1S)$ and $Upsilon(2S)$ decays (${cal B}(Upsilon(1S,2S)to Z^{+}_{c}Z^{(prime) -}_{c})times{cal B}(Z^{+}_{c}topi^{+}+cbar c)$ ($cbar c=J/psi$, $chi_{c1}(1P)$, $psi(2S)$)) and the product of Born cross section and branching fraction for $e^{+}e^{-} to Z^{+}_{c}Z^{(prime) -}_{c}$ ($sigma(e^+e^- to Z^{+}_{c}Z^{(prime) -}_{c})times {cal B}(Z^{+}_{c} to pi^+ +cbar c)$) at $sqrt{s}$ = 10.52, 10.58, and 10.867 GeV are determined. Here, $Z_{c}$ refers to the $Z_{c}(3900)$ and $Z_{c}(4200)$ observed in the $pi J/psi$ final state, the $Z_{c1}(4050)$ and $Z_{c2}(4250)$ in the $pichi_{c1}(1P)$ state, and the $Z_{c}(4050)$ and $Z_{c}(4430)$ in the $pipsi(2S)$ state.

We use an underground counting lab with an extremely low background to perform an activity measurement for the $^{12}$C+$^{13}$C system with energies down to $Erm_{c.m.}$=2.323 MeV, at which the $^{12}$C($^{13}$C,$p$)$^{24}$Na cross section is found to be 0.22(7) nb. The $^{12}$C+$^{13}$C fusion cross section is derived with a statistical model calibrated using experimental data. Our new result of the $^{12}$C+$^{13}$C fusion cross section is the first decisive evidence in the carbon isotope systems which rules out the existence of the astrophysical S-factor maximum predicted by the phenomenological hindrance model, while confirming the rising trend of the S-factor towards lower energies predicted by other models, such as CC-M3Y+Rep, DC-TDHF, KNS, SPP and ESW. After normalizing the model predictions with our data, a more reliable upper limit is established for the $^{12}$C+$^{12}$C fusion cross sections at stellar energies.

Features of anisotropic collective flow and spectral temperatures have been determined for lambda hyperons emitted from C + C collisions, at incident momentum of 4.2 AGeV/c, measured using the Propane Bubble Chamber of JINR at Dubna. Moreover, charac teristics of protons and of negative pions, emitted from those collisions, have been determined and provided for comparison. The directed and elliptic flows of lambdas both agree in sign with the corresponding flows of protons. Parameters of the directed and elliptic flows for lambdas agree further, within errors, with the corresponding parameters for the co-produced protons. This contrasts an earlier finding by the E895 Collaboration of the directed flow being significantly weaker for lambdas than protons, in the much heavier Au + Au system, at comparable incident momentum. Particle spectral temperatures in the C + C collisions have been determined focusing independently on either center-of-mass energy, transverse energy or transverse momentum distributions. For either protons or negative pions, the temperatures were found to be approximately the same, no matter whether the emission of those particles was associated with lambda production or not. Results of the measurements have been compared to the results of simulations within the Quark-Gluon String Model.
