A model proposed in 2004 using the non-Abelian discrete symmetry S3 for understanding the flavor structure of quarks and leptons is updated, with special focus on the quark and scalar sectors. We show how the approximate residual symmetries of this model explain both the pattern of the quark mixing matrix and why the recently observed particle of 126 GeV at the Large Hadron Collider is so much like the one Higgs boson of the Standard Model. We identify the strongest phenomenological bounds on the scalar masses of this model, and predict a possibly observable decay b -> s tau- mu+, but not b -> s tau+ mu-.

We develop a non-perturbative model for valence parton distribution functions (PDFs) based on the quark interactions in the mean field of the nucleonic interior. The main motivation for the model is to obtain a mean field description of the valence q uarks as a baseline to study the short range quark-quark interactions that generate high $x$ tail of valence quark distributions. The model is based on the separation of valence three-quark system from the residual nucleon system which is the source of the mean field. The nucleon structure function is calculated within effective light-front diagrammatic approach which allows to introduce light-front valence quark and residual wave functions. The model allows us to obtain a new relation between the position of the peak of $xq_V(x)$ distribution of the valence quark and the effective mass of the residual system, $m_R$: $x_{peak} approx {1over 4} (1-{m_Rover m_N})$ and naturally explains the difference in the peak positions for d- and u- quarks due to expected larger residual mass in the case of valence d- quark distribution. The parameters of the model are fixed by fitting the calculated valence quark distributions to the phenomenological parameterizations. This allowed us to estimate the total contribution due to quark-quark correlations which are expected to dominate at high x. The fit allowed also to obtain the $Q^2$ dependence of the mass of the residual system and its effective size which gives a new insight on the effects of the QCD evolution on strongly interacting mean field of the nucleon. Finally, the evaluated parameters of non-perturbative wave functions of valence 3q- and residual system allow them to be used in calculations of other observables such as nucleon form factors, generalized partonic and transverse momentum distributions.

The Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model for N=2 generations is extended to 8 composite Higgs multiplets by using a one-to-one correspondence between its complex Higgs doublet and very specific quadruplets of bilinear quark operators. This is the minimal num ber required to suitably account, simultaneously, for the pseudoscalar mesons that can be built with 4 quarks and for the masses of the $W$ gauge bosons. They are used as input, together with elementary low energy considerations, from which all other parameters, masses and couplings can be calculated. We focus in this work on the spectrum of the 8 Higgs bosons, on the mixing angles, and on the set of horizontal and vertical entangled symmetries that, within the chiral $U(4)_L times U(4)_R$ group, strongly frame this extension of the Standard Model. In particular, the $u-c$ ($theta_u$) and $d-s$ ($theta_d$) mixing angles satisfy the robust relation $tan(theta_d+theta_u)tan(theta_d-theta_u) = Big(frac{1}{m_{K^pm}^2}-frac{1}{m_{D^pm}^2}Big) big/ Big(frac{1}{m_{pi^pm}^2}-frac{1}{m_{D_s^pm}^2}Big)$. Light scalars (below $90 MeV$) arise and the mass of (at least) one of the Higgs bosons grows like that of the heaviest $bar qgamma_5 q$ bound state. $theta_u$ cannot be safely tuned to zero and several parameters have no reliable expansion in terms of small parameters like $m_pi$ or the mixing angles. This study does not call for extra species of fermions. The effective couplings of scalars, which depend on the non-trivial normalization of their kinetic terms, can be extremely weak. For the sake of (relative) brevity, their rich content of non-standard physics (including astrophysics), the inclusion of the 3rd generation and the taming of quantum corrections are left for a subsequent work.

The texture zero mass matrices for the quarks and leptons describe very well the flavor mixing of the quarks and leptons. We can calculate the angles of the unitarity triangle. We expect the angle alpha of the unitarity triangle to be 90 degrees. The masses of the neutrinos can be calculated - they are very small, the largest neutrino mass is 0.05 eV. We calculated the matrix element of the mixing matrix, relevant for the reactor mixing angle. It can be measured in the near future in the DAYA BAY experiment.
Our herein described combined analysis of the latest neutrino oscillation data presented at the Neutrino2020 conference shows that previous hints for the neutrino mass ordering have significantly decreased, and normal ordering (NO) is favored only at the $1.6sigma$ level. Combined with the $chi^2$ map provided by Super-Kamiokande for their atmospheric neutrino data analysis the hint for NO is at $2.7sigma$. The CP conserving value $delta_text{CP} = 180^circ$ is within $0.6sigma$ of the global best fit point. Only if we restrict to inverted mass ordering, CP violation is favored at the $sim 3sigma$ level. We discuss the origin of these results - which are driven by the new data from the T2K and NOvA long-baseline experiments -, and the relevance of the LBL-reactor oscillation frequency complementarity. The previous $2.2sigma$ tension in $Delta m^2_{21}$ preferred by KamLAND and solar experiments is also reduced to the $1.1sigma$ level after the inclusion of the latest Super-Kamiokande solar neutrino results. Finally we present updated allowed ranges for the oscillation parameters and for the leptonic Jarlskog determinant from the global analysis.
To understand the phase transition phenomena, information theoretical approaches can pick up some important properties of the phenomena based on the probability distribution. In this paper, we show information theoretical aspects of the 3-dimensional 3-state Potts model with the external field which is corresponding to the QCD effective model with heavy quarks. The transfer mutual information which represents the information flow of two spin variables is numerically estimated based on the Markov-chain Monte-Carlo method. The transfer mutual information has the peak near the confinement-deconfinement transition, and it may be used to detect the precursors of the transition. Since the transfer mutual information still have the peak even if the Polyakov-loop changes continuously and smoothly, we may pick up some aspects of the confinement-deconfinement nature from the information flow properties. Particularly, the transfer mutual information shows the significantly different behavior below and above the Roberge-Weiss endpoint existed in the pure imaginary chemical potential region, which may indicate the system change by the confinement-deconfinement transition.
