We study the ternary clathrate Pr3Pd20Si6 in specific heat and AC-susceptibility measurements on a high-quality single crystal, distinguishing antiferromagnetic (AFM) and antiferroquadrupolar (AFQ) ordering on two sublattices of inequivalent Pr sites. The specific heat shows the direct involvement of nuclear spin degrees of freedom in the AFM ordering, which is well supported by our calculation of the hyperfine level scheme without adjustable parameters. Pr3Pd20Si6 is therefore one of the rare materials where the nuclear moments are involved in the formation of the magnetic ground state.
We present the first-principles investigation of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of SrCoO$_{3-delta}$ ($delta=0, 0.25, 0.5$) to understand the multivalent nature of Co ions in SrCoO$_{3-delta}$ along the line of topotactic transit
We used Raman scattering to study the lattice and magnetic excitations in the hexagonal HoMnO3 single crystals. The E2 phonon mode at 237 cm-1 is affected by the magnetic order. This mode is related to the displacement of Mn and O ions in a-b plane a
The antiferroquadrupolar ordering of PrFe$_{4}$P$_{12}$ is explored by probing thermal and thermoelectric transport. The lattice thermal conductivity drastically increases with the ordering, as a consequence of a large drop in carrier concentration a
High resolution resonant inelastic x-ray scattering has been performed to reveal the role of lattice-coupling in a family of quasi-1D insulating cuprates, Ca$_{2+5x}$Y$_{2-5x}$Cu$_5$O$_{10}$. Site-dependent low energy excitations arising from progres
We present acoustic signatures of the electric quadrupolar degrees of freedom in the honeycomb-layer compound UNi$_4$B. The transverse ultrasonic mode $C_{66}$ shows softening below 30 K both in the paramagnetic phase and antiferromagnetic phases dow
