We present a general model with universal extra dimensions in the presence of the bulk fermion masses and boundary localized kinetic terms, which are generically allowed by symmetries of five dimensional gauge theory. We provide a comprehensive analysis for a general UED model, including Kaluza-Klein mass spectra, their interactions with the SM particles, and constraints from LHC, electroweak tests, and dark matter experiments. Finally we show current bounds on the size of allowed universal bulk mass and universal brane-localized terms.

We study the physics of Kaluza-Klein (KK) top quarks in the framework of a non-minimal Universal Extra Dimension (nmUED) with an orbifolded (S1/Z2) flat extra spatial dimension in the presence of brane-localized terms (BLTs). In general, BLTs affect the masses and the couplings of the KK excitations in a non-trivial way including those for the KK top quarks. On top of that, BLTs also influence the mixing of the top quark chiral states at each KK level and trigger mixings among excitations from different levels with identical KK parity (even or odd). The latter phenomenon of mixing of KK levels is not present in the popular UED scenario known as the minimal UED (mUED) at the tree level. Of particular interest are the mixings among the KK top quarks from level `0 and level `2 (driven by the mass of the Standard Model (SM) top quark). These open up new production modes in the form of single production of a KK top quark and the possibility of its direct decays to Standard Model (SM) particles leading to rather characteristic signals at the colliders. Experimental constraints and the restrictions they impose on the nmUED parameter space are discussed. The scenario is implemented in MadGraph 5 by including the quark, lepton, the gauge-boson and the Higgs sectors up to the second KK level. A few benchmark scenarios are chosen for preliminary studies of the decay patterns of the KK top quarks and their production rates at the LHC in various different modes. Recast of existing experimental analyzes in scenarios having similar states is found to be not so straightforward for the KK top quarks of the nmUED scenario under consideration.
In models with extra dimensions, vectorlike Dirac masses for fermion fields are generically allowed. These masses are independent of electroweak symmetry breaking and do not contribute to the known masses for the quarks and leptons. They control the profile of the bulk wave functions, the mass spectra of Kaluza-Klein modes, and interactions that could be tested in experiments. In this article, we study the effects of bulk masses in electroweak precision measurements and in dark matter and collider searches, to set bounds on the bulk mass parameters in models with a flat universal extra dimension, namely, Split-UED. We find the current bound on the universal bulk-mass to be smaller than (0.2-0.3)/R, where R is the radius of the extra dimension. Similar but slightly relaxed bounds are obtained in the non-universal bulk mass case. The LHC is expected to play an important role in constraining the remaining parameter space.

Theories with extra dimensions of inverse TeV size (or larger) predict a multitude of signals which can be searched for at present and future colliders. In this paper, we review the different phenomenological signatures of a particular class of model s, universal extra dimensions, where all matter fields propagate in the bulk. Such models have interesting features, in particular Kaluza-Klein (KK) number conservation, which makes their phenomenology similar to that of supersymmetric theories. Thus, KK excitations of matter are produced in pairs, and decay to a lightest KK particle (LKP), which is stable and weakly interacting, and therefore will appear as missing energy in the detector (similar to a neutralino LSP). Adding gravitational interactions which can break KK number conservation greatly expands the class of possible signatures. Thus, if gravity is the primary cause for the decay of KK excitations of matter, the experimental signals at hadron colliders will be jets + missing energy, which is typical of supergravity models. If the KK quarks and gluons decay first to the LKP, which then decays gravitationally, the experimental signal will be photons and/or leptons (with some jets), which resembles the phenomenology of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models.
Using a low-energy effective field theory approach, we study some properties of models with large extra dimensions, in which quarks and leptons have localized wave functions in the extra dimensions. We consider models with two types of gauge groups: (i) the Standard-Model gauge group, and (ii) the left-right symmetric (LRS) gauge group. Our main focus is on the lepton sector of models with $n=2$ extra dimensions, in particular, neutrino masses and mixing. We analyze the requisite conditions that the models must satisfy to be in accord with data and present a solution for lepton wave functions in the extra dimensions that fulfills these conditions. As part of our work, we also present a new solution for quark wave function centers. Issues with flavor-changing neutral current effects are assessed. Finally, we remark on baryogenesis and dark matter in these models.
Extra dimensions have proven to be a very useful tool in constructing new physics models. In earlier work, we began investigating toy models for the 5-D analog of the kinetic mixing/vector portal scenario where the interactions of dark matter, taken to be, e.g., a complex scalar, with the brane-localized fields of the Standard Model (SM) are mediated by a massive $U(1)_D$ dark photon living in the bulk. These models were shown to have many novel features differentiating them from their 4-D analogs and which, in several cases, avoided some well-known 4-D model building constraints. However, these gains were obtained at the cost of the introduction of a fair amount of model complexity, e.g., dark matter Kaluza-Klein excitations. In the present paper, we consider an alternative setup wherein the dark matter and the dark Higgs, responsible for $U(1)_D$ breaking, are both localized to the dark brane at the opposite end of the 5-D interval from where the SM fields are located with only the dark photon now being a 5-D field. The phenomenology of such a setup is explored for both flat and warped extra dimensions and compared to the previous more complex models.
