High order harmonic generation from clusters is a controversial topic: conflicting theories exist, with different explanations for similar experimental observations. From an experimental point of view, separating the contributions from monomers and clusters is challenging. By performing a spectrally and spatially resolved study in a controlled mixture of clusters and monomers, we are able to isolate a region of the spectrum where the emission purely originates from clusters. Surpringly, the emission from clusters is depolarized, which is the signature of statistical inhomogeneous emission from a low-density source. The harmonic response to laser ellipticity shows that this generation is produced by a new recollisional mechanism, which opens the way to future theoretical studies.

Microscopic nonlinear quantum theory of interaction of coherent electromagnetic radiation with gapped bilayer graphene is developed. The Liouville-von Neumann equation for the density matrix is solved numerically at the multiphoton excitation regime. The developed theory of interaction of charged carriers with strong driving wave field is valid near the Dirac points of the Brillouin zone. We consider the harmonic generation process in the nonadiabatic regime of interaction when the Keldysh parameter is of the order of unity. On the basis of numerical solutions, we examine the rates of odd and even high-harmonics at the particle-hole annihilation in the field of a strong pump wave of arbitrary polarization. Obtained results show that the gapped bilayer graphene can serve as an effective medium for generation of even and odd high harmonics in the THz and far infrared domains of frequencies.

We investigate the role of exchange bridges in molecular magnets. We explore their effects on the distribution of the valence electrons and their contribution to the exchange processes. The present study is focused on a spin-half dimer with nonequiva lent exchange bridges. Here, we derive an effective Hamiltonian that allows for an accurate estimation of the observables associated to the magnetic properties of the magnet. Our results are compared to those obtained by means of the conventional Heisenberg model that usually fails.

We report a study of high harmonic generation from noble gas clusters of xenon atoms in a gas jet. Harmonic spectra were investigated as a function of backing pressure, showing spectral shifts due to the nanoplasma electrons in the clusters. At certa in value of laser intensity this process may oppose the effect of the well-known ionization-induced blueshift. In addition, these cluster-induced harmonic redshifts may give the possibility to estimate cluster density and cluster size in the laser-gas jet interaction range.
Some properties of small and medium sodium clusters are described within the RPA approach using a projected spherical single particle basis. The oscillator strengths calculated with a Schiff-like dipole transition operator and folded with Lorentzian functions are used to calculate the photoabsorbtion cross section spectra. The results are further employed to establish the dependence of the plasmon frequency on the number of cluster components. Static electric polarizabilities of the clusters excited in a RPA dipole state are also calculated. Comparison of our results with the corresponding experimental data show an overall good agreement.
We consider several aspects of high-order harmonic generation in solids: the effects of elastic and inelastic scattering; varying pulse characteristics; and inclusion of material-specific parameters through a realistic band structure. We reproduce ma ny observed characteristics of high harmonic generation experiments in solids including the formation of only odd harmonics in inversion-symmetric materials, and the nonlinear formation of high harmonics with increasing field. We find that the harmonic spectra are fairly robust against elastic and inelastic scattering. Furthermore, we find that the pulse characteristics play an important role in determining the harmonic spectra.
