We will give an introduction to the concept of quarkyonic matter, presenting an overview of what is meant by this term in the literature. We will then argue that the quarkyonic phase, as defined in the original paper, is a percolation-type phase transition whose phase transition line is strongly curved in $rho_B-N_c$ space, where $N_c$ is the number of colors and $rho_B$ the baryon density. With a toy model estimate, we show that it might be possible to obtain a percolating but confined phase at $N_c=3,N_f=2$ at densities larger than one baryon per one baryon size. We conclude by discussing how this phase can be observed at FAIR.

Exciting new scientific opportunities are presented for the PANDA detector at the High Energy Storage Ring in the redefined $overline{text{p}} text{p}(A)$ collider mode, HESR-C, at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Europe. The hi gh luminosity, $L sim 10^{31}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$, and a wide range of intermediate and high energies, $sqrt{s_{text{NN}}}$ up to 30 GeV for $overline{text{p}} text{p}(A)$ collisions will allow to explore a wide range of exciting topics in QCD, including the study of the production of excited open charm and bottom states, nuclear bound states containing heavy (anti)quarks, the interplay of hard and soft physics in the dilepton production, probing short-range correlations in nuclei, and the exploration of the early, complete $overline{text{p}}$-p-annihilation phase, where an intially pure Yang-Mills gluon plasma is formed.
This report summarizes the presentations and discussions during the Rapid Reaction Task Force Dynamics of critical fluctuations: Theory -- phenomenology -- heavy-ion collisions, which was organized by the ExtreMe Matter Institute EMMI and held at GSI , Darmstadt, Germany in April 2019. We address the current understanding of the dynamics of critical fluctuations in QCD and their measurement in heavy-ion collision experiments. In addition, we outline what might be learned from studying correlations in other physical systems, such as cold atomic gases.

The dispersive determination of $pi{Y}Sigma$ coupling constants ($Y = Lambda, Sigma$) and the implications for low-energy $bar{K}N$ analysis are discussed. (Presented by G. Violini at the 7th Int. Equilibration of highly excited baryon-rich matter is studied within the microscopic model calculations in A+A collisions at energies of BES, FAIR and NICA. It is shown that the system evolution from the very beginning of the collision can be approxi mated by relativistic hydrodynamics, although the hot and dense nuclear matter is not in local equilibrium yet. During the evolution of the fireball the extracted values of energy density, net baryon and net strangeness densities are used as an input to Statistical Model (SM) in order to calculate temperature $T$, chemical potentials $mu_B$ and $mu_S$, and entropy density $s$ of the system. Also, they are used as an input for the box with periodic boundary conditions to investigate the momentum correlators in the infinite nuclear matter. Shear viscosity $eta$ is calculated according to the Green-Kubo formalism. At all energies, shear viscosity to entropy density ratio shows minimum at time corresponding to maximum baryon density. The ratio dependence on $T, mu_B, mu_S$ is investigated for both in- and out of equilibrium cases.
During the last years it has become possible to address the cold and dense regime of QCD directly for sufficiently heavy quarks, where combined strong coupling and hopping expansions are convergent and a 3d effective theory can be derived, which allo ws to control the sign problem either in simulations or by fully analytic calculations. In this contribution we review the effective theory and study the $N_c$-dependence of the nuclear liquid gas transition, as well as the equation of state of baryonic matter in the strong coupling limit. We find the transition to become more strongly first order with growing $N_c$, suggesting that in the large $N_c$ limit its critical endpoint moves to high temperatures to connect with the deconfinement transition. Furthermore, to leading and next-to-leading order in the strong coupling and hopping expansions, respectively, the pressure is found to scale as $psim N_c$. This suggests that baryonic and quarkyonic matter might be the same at nuclear densities. Further work is needed to see whether this result is stable under gauge corrections.
