For a morphism $f:P^N to P^N$, the points whose forward orbit by $f$ is finite are called preperiodic points for $f$. This article presents an algorithm to effectively determine all the rational preperiodic points for $f$ defined over a given number field $K$. This algorithm is implemented in the open-source software Sage for $Q$. Additionally, the notion of a dynatomic zero-cycle is generalized to preperiodic points. Along with examining their basic properties, these generalized dynatomic cycles are shown to be effective.

Fix $d ge 2$ and a field $k$ such that $mathrm{char}~k mid d$. Assume that $k$ contains the $d$th roots of $1$. Then the irreducible components of the curves over $k$ parameterizing preperiodic points of polynomials of the form $z^d+c$ are geometric ally irreducible and have gonality tending to $infty$. This implies the function field analogue of the strong uniform boundedness conjecture for preperiodic points of $z^d+c$. It also has consequences over number fields: it implies strong uniform boundedness for preperiodic points of bounded eventual period, which in turn reduces the full conjecture for preperiodic points to the conjecture for periodic points.
We provide in this paper an upper bound for the number of rational points on a curve defined over a one variable function field over a finite field. The bound only depends on the curve and the field, but not on the Jacobian variety of the curve.
Let $k$ be a number field, let $X$ be a Kummer variety over $k$, and let $delta$ be an odd integer. In the spirit of a result by Yongqi Liang, we relate the arithmetic of rational points over finite extensions of $k$ to that of zero-cycles over $k$ f or $X$. For example, we show that if the Brauer-Manin obstruction is the only obstruction to the existence of rational points on $X$ over all finite extensions of $k$, then the $2$-primary Brauer-Manin obstruction is the only obstruction to the existence of a zero-cycle of degree $delta$ on $X$ over $k$.
Let $X$ be a curve of genus $ggeq 2$ over a number field $F$ of degree $d = [F:Q]$. The conjectural existence of a uniform bound $N(g,d)$ on the number $#X(F)$ of $F$-rational points of $X$ is an outstanding open problem in arithmetic geometry, known by [CHM97] to follow from the Bombieri--Lang conjecture. A related conjecture posits the existence of a uniform bound $N_{{rm tors},dagger}(g,d)$ on the number of geometric torsion points of the Jacobian $J$ of $X$ which lie on the image of $X$ under an Abel--Jacobi map. For fixed $X$ this quantity was conjectured to be finite by Manin--Mumford, and was proved to be so by Raynaud [Ray83]. We give an explicit uniform bound on $#X(F)$ when $X$ has Mordell--Weil rank $rleq g-3$. This generalizes recent work of Stoll on uniform bounds on hyperelliptic curves of small rank to arbitrary curves. Using the same techniques, we give an explicit, unconditional uniform bound on the number of $F$-rational torsion points of $J$ lying on the image of $X$ under an Abel--Jacobi map. We also give an explicit uniform bound on the number of geometric torsion points of $J$ lying on $X$ when the reduction type of $X$ is highly degenerate. Our methods combine Chabauty--Colemans $p$-adic integration, non-Archimedean potential theory on Berkovich curves, and the theory of linear systems and divisors on metric graphs.
Manins conjecture predicts the asymptotic behavior of the number of rational points of bounded height on algebraic varieties. For toric varieties, it was proved by Batyrev and Tschinkel via height zeta functions and an application of the Poisson form ula. An alternative approach to Manins conjecture via universal torsors was used so far mainly over the field Q of rational numbers. In this note, we give a proof of Manins conjecture over the Gaussian rational numbers Q(i) and over other imaginary quadratic number fields with class number 1 for the singular toric cubic surface defined by t^3=xyz.
