Magnetic Heusler materials with very low Gilbert damping are expected to show novel magnonic transport phenomena. We report nonlinear generation of higher harmonics leading to the emission of caustic spin-wave beams in a low-damping, micro-structured Co2Mn0.6Fe0.4Si Heusler waveguide. The source for the higher harmonic generation is a localized edge mode formed by the strongly inhomogeneous field distribution at the edges of the spin-wave waveguide. The radiation characteristics of the propagating caustic waves observed at twice and three times the excitation frequency are described by an analytical calculation based on the anisotropic dispersion of spin waves in a magnetic thin film.

Micron scale ferromagnetic tubes placed on the ends of ferromagnetic CoTaZr spin waveguides are explored in order to enhance the excitation of Backward Volume Magnetostatic Spin Waves. The tubes produce a closed magnetic circuit about the signal line of the coplanar waveguide and are, at the same time, magnetically contiguous with the spin waveguide. This results in a 10 fold increase in spin wave amplitude. However, the tube geometry distorts the magnetic field near the spin waveguide and relatively high biasing magnetic fields are required to establish well defined spin waves. Only the lowest (uniform) spin wave mode is excited.
We demonstrate a new four-wave mixing (4WM) geometry based on structured light. By utilizing near-field diffraction through a narrow slit, the pump beam is asymmetrically structured to modify the phase matching condition, generating multi-mode output in both the spatial and frequency domains. We show that the frequency parameter enables selection of various spatial-mode outputs, including a twin-beam geometry which preserves relative intensity squeezing shared between the two beams. The results suggest that the engineering of atomic states via structured light may provide a pathway to a diverse set of quantum resources based on multi-mode squeezed light.
Scalable quantum technologies require faithful conversion between matter qubits storing the quantum information and photonic qubits carrying the information in integrated circuits and waveguides. We demonstrate that the electromagnetic field chiralit y which arises in nanophotonic waveguides leads to unidirectional emission from an embedded quantum dot quantum emitter, with resultant in-plane transfer of matter-qubit (spin) information. The chiral behavior occurs despite the non-chiral geometry and material of the waveguides. Using dot registration techniques we achieve a quantum emitter deterministically positioned at a chiral point and realize spin-path conversion by design. We measure and compare the phenomena in single mode nanobeam and photonic crystal waveguides. The former is much more tolerant to dot position, exhibits experimental spin-path readout as high as 95 +/- 5% and has potential to serve as the basis of future spin-logic and network implementations.

We propose a method to generate isolated relativistic terahertz (THz) pulses using a high-power laser irradiating a mirco-plasma-waveguide (MPW). When the laser pulse enters the MPW, high-charge electron bunches are produced and accelerated to ~ 100 MeV by the transverse magnetic modes. A substantial part of the electron energy is transferred to THz emission through coherent diffraction radiation as the electron bunches exit the MPW. We demonstrate this process with three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. The frequency of the radiation is determined by the incident laser duration, and the radiated energy is found to be strongly correlated to the charge of the electron bunches, which can be controlled by the laser intensity and micro-engineering of the MPW target. Our simulations indicate that 100-mJ level relativistic-intense THz pulses with tunable frequency can be generated at existing laser facilities, and the overall efficiency reaches 1%.
The spin pumping efficiency of lateral standing spin wave modes in a rectangular YIG/Pt sample has been investigated by means of the inverse spin-Hall effect (ISHE). The standing spin waves drive spin pumping, the generation of spin currents from mag netization precession, into the Pt layer which is converted into a detectable voltage due to the ISHE. We discovered that the spin pumping efficiency is significantly higher for lateral standing surface spin waves rather than for volume spin wave modes. The results suggest that the use of higher-mode surface spin waves allows for the fabrication of an efficient spin-current injector.
