Slowroll after tunneling is a crucial step in one popular framework of the multiverse---false vacuum eternal inflation (FVEI). In a landscape with a large number of fields, we provide a heuristic estimation for its probability. We find that the chance to slowroll is exponentially suppressed, where the exponent comes from the number of fields. However, the relative probability to have more e-foldings is only mildly suppressed as $N_e^{-alpha} $ with $alphasim3$. Base on these two properties, we show that the FVEI picture is still self-consistent and may have a strong preference between different slowroll models.

Topology-changing transitions between vacua of different effective dimensionality are studied in the context of a 6-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory. The landscape of this theory includes a $6d$ de Sitter vacuum ($dS_6$), a number of $dS_4 times S _2$ and $AdS_4 times S_2$ vacua, and a number of $AdS_2 times S_4$ vacua. We find that compactification transitions $dS_6 to AdS_2 times S_4$ occur through the nucleation of electrically charged black hole pairs, and transitions from $dS_6$ to $dS_4 times S_2$ and $AdS_4 times S_2$ occur through the nucleation of magnetically charged spherical black branes. We identify the appropriate instantons and describe the spacetime structure resulting from brane nucleation.
In this paper, we analyze the inflationary cosmology using string field theory. This is done by using the zero level contribution from string field theory, which is a non-local tachyonic action. We will use the non-local Friedmann equations for this model based on string field theory, and calculate the slow-roll parameters for this model. We will then explicitly obtain the scalar and tensorial power spectrum, their related indices, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio for this model. Finally, we use cosmological data from Planck 2013 to 2018 to constrain the free parameters in this model and find that string field theory is compatible with them.
We develop analytic and numerical techniques for studying the statistics of slow-roll inflation in random Gaussian landscapes. As an illustration of these techniques, we analyze small-field inflation in a one-dimensional landscape. We calculate the p robability distributions for the maximal number of e-folds and for the spectral index of density fluctuations $n_s$ and its running $alpha_s$. These distributions have a universal form, insensitive to the correlation function of the Gaussian ensemble. We outline possible extensions of our methods to a large number of fields and to models of large-field inflation. These methods do not suffer from potential inconsistencies inherent in the Brownian motion technique, which has been used in most of the earlier treatments.
We study the preheating process in a model of DBI inflation with a DBI-type inflaton coupling to a canonical entropy field. At the end of inflation, the inflaton field oscillates around its vacuum which can arise from an infrared cutoff parameter on the warp factor and correspondingly the evolution of its fluctuations can be approximately described by a generalized Hills equation in third order. We study the field fluctuations numerically and show that they could grow exponentially since the instability bands commonly exist in the DBI models if the amplitudes of background oscillations are of order or larger than the cutoff parameter. Our numerical result also reveals that the particle excitation of the matter field is more dramatic than that in usual case since the parametric resonance lasts longer when the effect of a warp factor is taken into account. Therefore, we conclude that the preheating process in the model of DBI inflation could be more efficient than that in standard inflation models.
We argue that moduli stabilization generically restricts the evolution following transitions between weakly coupled de Sitter vacua and can induce a strong selection bias towards inflationary cosmologies. The energy density of domain walls between va cua typically destabilizes Kahler moduli and triggers a runaway towards large volume. This decompactification phase can collapse the new de Sitter region unless a minimum amount of inflation occurs after the transition. A stable vacuum transition is guaranteed only if the inflationary expansion generates overlapping past light cones for all observable modes originating from the reheating surface, which leads to an approximately flat and isotropic universe. High scale inflation is vastly favored. Our results point towards a framework for studying parameter fine-tuning and inflationary initial conditions in flux compactifications.
