We construct an infinite-dimensional solution of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE) of rank 1 which is represented as an integral operator with an elliptic hypergeometric kernel acting in the space of functions of two complex variables. This R-operator intertwines the product of two standard L-operators associated with the Sklyanin algebra, an elliptic deformation of sl(2)-algebra. It is built from three basic operators $mathrm{S}_1, mathrm{S}_2$, and $mathrm{S}_3$ generating the permutation group of four parameters $mathfrak{S}_4$. Validity of the key Coxeter relations (including the star-triangle relation) is based on the elliptic beta integral evaluation formula and the Bailey lemma associated with an elliptic Fourier transformation. The operators $mathrm{S}_j$ are determined uniquely with the help of the elliptic modular double.

We construct characteristic identities for the split (polarized) Casimir operators of the simple Lie algebras in defining (minimal fundamental) and adjoint representations. By means of these characteristic identities, for all simple Lie algebras we d erive explicit formulae for invariant projectors onto irreducible subrepresentations in T^{otimes 2} in two cases, when T is the defining and the adjoint representation. In the case when T is the defining representation, these projectors and the split Casimir operator are used to explicitly write down invariant solutions of the Yang-Baxter equations. In the case when T is the adjoint representation, these projectors and characteristic identities are considered from the viewpoint of the universal description of the simple Lie algebras in terms of the Vogel parameters.
We prove the Makeenko-Migdal equation for two-dimensional Euclidean Yang-Mills theory on an arbitrary compact surface, possibly with boundary. In particular, we show that two of the proofs given by the first, third, and fourth authors for the plane c ase extend essentially without change to compact surfaces.
Several aspects of relations between braces and non-degenerate involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation are discussed and many consequences are derived. In particular, for each positive integer $n$ a finite square-free multiperm utation solution of the Yang-Baxter equation with multipermutation level $n$ and an abelian involutive Yang-Baxter group is constructed. This answers a problem of Gateva-Ivanova and Cameron. It is also proved that finite non-degenerate involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation whose associated involutive Yang-Baxter group is abelian are retractable in the sense of Etingof, Schedler and Soloviev. Earlier the authors proved this with the additional square-free hypothesis on the solutions. Retractability of solutions is also proved for finite square-free non-degenerate involutive set-theoretic solutions associated to a left brace.
We give three short proofs of the Makeenko-Migdal equation for the Yang-Mills measure on the plane, two using the edge variables and one using the loop or lasso variables. Our proofs are significantly simpler than the earlier pioneering rigorous proo fs given by T. Levy and by A. Dahlqvist. In particular, our proofs are local in nature, in that they involve only derivatives with respect to variables adjacent to the crossing in question. In an accompanying paper with F. Gabriel, we will show that two of our proofs can be adapted to the case of Yang-Mills theory on a compact surface.
In this paper, several proposals of optically simulating Yang-Baxter equations have been presented. Motivated by the recent development of anyon theory, we apply Temperley-Lieb algebra as a bridge to recast four-dimentional Yang-Baxter equation into its two-dimensional counterpart. In accordance with both representations, we find the corresponding linear-optical simulations, based on the highly efficient optical elements. Both the freedom degrees of photon polarization and location are utilized as the qubit basis, in which the unitary Yang-Baxter matrices are decomposed into combination of actions of basic optical elements.
