The role played by Time in the quantum theory is still mysterious by many aspects. In particular it is not clear today whether the distribution of decay times of unstable particles could be described by a Time Operator. As we shall discuss, different approaches to this problem (one could say interpretations) can be found in the literature on the subject. As we shall show, it is possible to conceive crucial experiments aimed at distinguishing the different approaches, by measuring with accuracy the statistical distribution of decay times of entangled particles. Such experiments can be realized in principle with entangled kaon pairs.

We study the short-time and medium-time behavior of the survival probability in the frame of the $N$-level Friedrichs model. The time evolution of an arbitrary unstable initial state is determined. We show that the survival probability may oscillate significantly during the so-called exponential era. This result explains qualitatively the experimental observations of the NaI decay.
How to understand the set of correlations admissible in nature is one outstanding open problem in the core of the foundations of quantum theory. Here we take a complementary viewpoint to the device-independent approach, and explore the correlations t hat physical theories may feature when restricted by some particular constraints on their measurements. We show that demanding that a theory exhibits a composite measurement imposes a hierarchy of constraints on the structure of its sets of states and effects, which translate to a hierarchy of constraints on the allowed correlations themselves. We moreover focus on the particular case where one demands the existence of an entangled measurement that reads out the parity of local fiducial measurements. By formulating a non-linear Optimisation Problem, and semidefinite relaxations of it, we explore the consequences of the existence of such a parity reading measurement for violations of Bell inequalities. In particular, we show that in certain situations this assumption has surprisingly strong consequences, namely, that Tsirelsons bound can be recovered.
Using Bell-inequalities as a tool to explore non-classical physical behaviours, in this paper we analyze what one can expect to find in many-body quantum physics. Concretely, framing the usual correlation scenarios as a concrete spin-lattice, we want to know whether or not it is possible to violate a Bell-inequality restricted to this scenario. Using clustering theorems, we are able to show that a large family of quantum many-body systems behave almost locally, violating Bell-inequalities (if so) only by a non-significant amount. We also provide examples, explain some of our assumptions via counter-examples and present all the proofs for our theorems. We hope the paper is self-contained.
Adiabatic passage is a standard tool for achieving robust transfer in quantum systems. We show that, in the context of driven nonlinear Hamiltonian systems, adiabatic passage becomes highly non-robust when the target is unstable. We show this result for a generic (1:2) resonance, for which the complete transfer corresponds to a hyperbolic fixed point in the classical phase space featuring an adiabatic connectivity strongly sensitive to small perturbations of the model. By inverse engineering, we devise high-fidelity and robust partially non-adiabatic trajectories. They localize at the approach of the target near the stable manifold of the separatrix, which drives the dynamics towards the target in a robust way. These results can be applicable to atom-molecule Bose-Einstein condensate conversion and to nonlinear optics.
We present the probability preserving description of the decaying particle within the framework of quantum mechanics of open systems taking into account the superselection rule prohibiting the superposition of the particle and vacuum. In our approach the evolution of the system is given by a family of completely positive trace preserving maps forming one-parameter dynamical semigroup. We give the Kraus representation for the general evolution of such systems which allows one to write the evolution for systems with two or more particles. Moreover, we show that the decay of the particle can be regarded as a Markov process by finding explicitly the master equation in the Lindblad form. We also show that there are remarkable restrictions on the possible strength of decoherence.
