The effect of selenium substitution by sulfur or tellurium in the Tl1-yFe2-zSe2 antiferromagnet was studied by x-ray and electron diffraction, magnetization and transport measurements. Tl0.8Fe1.5(Se1-xXx)2 (nominal composition) solid solutions were synthesized in the full x range (0<x<1) for X=S and up to x=0.5 for X=Te, using the sealed tube technique. No superconductivity was found down to 4.2K in the case of sulfur despite the fact that the optimal crystallographic parameters, determined by Rietveld refinements, are reached in the series (i.e. the Fe-(Se,S) interplane height and (Se,S)-Fe-(Se,S) angle for which the critical superconducting transition T$_{c}$ is usually maximal in pnictides). Quasi full Tl site (y=0.05) compared to significant alkaline deficiency (y=0.2-0.3) in analogous A1-yFe2-zSe2 (A = K, Rb, Cs), and the resulting differences in iron valency, density of states and doping, are suggested to explain this absence of superconductivity. Compounds substituted with tellurium, at least up to x=0.25, show superconducting transitions but probably due to tetragonal Fe(Se,Te) impurity phase. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed the existence of ordered iron vacancies network in the samples from the Tl$_{0.8}$Fe$_{1.5}$(Se$_{1-x}$S$_{x}$)$_{2}$ series in the form of the tetragonal $sqrt{5}$ a $times sqrt{5}$ a $times$ c superstructure (textit{I4/m}) (mixed with the orthorhombic $sqrt{2}$ a $times 2sqrt{2}$ a $times$ c form (textit{Ibam}) if the iron vacancies level is increased). The N{e}el temperature (T$_{N}$) indicating the onset of antiferromagnetism order in the $sqrt{5}$ a $times sqrt{5}$ a $times$ c supercell decreases from 450K in the selenide (x=0) to 330K in the sulfide (x=1). We finally demonstrate a direct linear relationship between $T_{Nacute{e}el}$ and the Fe-(Se,S) bond length (or Fe-(Se,S) height).

BaFe$_2$S$_3$ is a quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnetic insulator that becomes superconducting under hydrostatic pressure. The magnetic ordering temperature, $T_N$, as well as the presence of superconductivity have been found to be sample dependen t. It has been argued that the Fe content may play a decisive role, with the use of 5%mol excess Fe being reportedly required during the synthesis to optimize the magnetic ordering temperature and the superconducting properties. However, it is yet unclear whether an Fe off-stoichiometry is actually present in the samples, and how it affects the structural, magnetic and transport properties. Here, we present a systematic study of compositional, structural and physical properties of BaFe$_{2+delta}$S$_3$ as a function of the nominal Fe excess $delta$. As $delta$ increases, we observe the presence of an increasing fraction of secondary phases but no systematic change in the composition or crystal structure of the main phase. Magnetic susceptibility curves are influenced by the presence of magnetic secondary phases. The previously reported maximum of $T_N$ at $delta$=0.1 was not confirmed. Samples with nominal $delta$=0 present the lowest $T_N$ and the resistivity anomaly at the highest temperature $T^*$ while, for $delta geq 0.05$, both quantities and the transport gap are seemingly $delta$-independent. Finally, we show that crystals free of ferromagnetic spurious phases can be obtained by remelting samples with nominal $delta$=0.05 in a Bridgman process.
We report experimental studies of a series of BaFe$_2$S$_{3-x}$Se$_x$ ($0leq xleq3$) single crystals and powder specimens using x-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction, muon spin relaxation, and electrical transport measurements. A structural transfor mation from Cmcm (BaFe$_2$S$_3$) to Pnma (BaFe$_2$Se$_3$) was identified around $x = 0.7sim 1$. Neutron diffraction measurements on the samples with $x$ = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.7 reveal that the N${e}$el temperature of the stripe antiferromagnetic order is gradually suppressed from $sim$120 to 85 K, while the magnitude of the ordered Fe$^{2+}$ moments shows very little variation. Similarly, the block antiferromagnetic order in BaFe$_2$Se$_3$ remains robust for $1.5leq xleq3$ with negligible variation in the ordered moment and a slight decrease of the N${e}$el temperature from 250 K ($x=3$) to 225 K ($x=1.5$). The sample with $x=1$ near the Cmcm and Pnma border shows coexisting, two-dimensional, short-range stripe- and block-type antiferromagnetic correlations. The system remains insulating for all $x$, but the thermal activation gap shows an abrupt increase when traversing the boundary from the Cmcm stripe phase to the Pnma block phase. The results demonstrate that the crystal structure, magnetic order, and electronic properties are strongly coupled in the BaFe$_2$S$_{3-x}$Se$_x$ system.
Ce(O,F)Sb(S,Se)2 single crystals were successfully grown using a CsCl/KCl flux method. The obtained crystals have a plate-like shape with the typical size of 1-2 mm and well-developed ab-plane, which enables X-ray single crystal structural analysis. The Ce(O,F)Sb(S,Se)2 crystallizes in a monoclinic space group, P21/m, with lattice parameters of a = 4.121(7) A, b = 4.109(7) A, c = 13.233(15) A, beta = 97.94(7) deg. It is composed of alternate stacking of Ce-(O,F) and Sb-SSe layers, and the Sb-SSe layer includes selective occupation of Se atoms in its in-plane site. The valence state of Ce is estimated to be Ce3+ by X-ray absorption fine spectroscopy analysis. The single crystals show an insulating behavior, and a magnetic ordering around 6 K.

Isoelectronic substitution is an ideal tuning parameter to alter electronic states and correlations in iron-based superconductors. As this substitution takes place outside the conducting Fe planes, the electronic behaviour is less affected by the imp urity scattering experimentally and relevant key electronic parameters can be accessed. In this short review, I present the experimental progress made in understanding the electronic behaviour of the nematic electronic superconductors, FeSe1-xSx. A direct signature of the nematic electronic state is in-plane anisotropic distortion of the Fermi surface triggered by orbital ordering effects and electronic interactions that result in multi-band shifts detected by ARPES. Upon sulphur substitution, the electronic correlations and the Fermi velocities decrease in the tetragonal phase. Quantum oscillations are observed for the whole series in ultra-high magnetic fields and show a complex spectra due to the presence of many small orbits. Effective masses associated to the largest orbit display non-divergent behaviour at the nematic end point (x~0.175(5)), as opposed to critical spin-fluctuations in other iron pnictides. Magnetotransport behaviour has a strong deviation from the Fermi liquid behaviour and linear T resistivity is detected at low temperatures inside the nematic phase, where scattering from low energy spin-fluctuations are likely to be present. The superconductivity is not enhanced in FeSe1-xSx and there are no divergent electronic correlations at the nematic end point. These manifestations indicate a strong coupling with the lattice in FeSe1-xSx and a pairing mechanism likely promoted by spin fluctuations.

We report the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, $T_c$, in TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ detected via the AC susceptibility method. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for TlNi$_{2}$Se$_{2}$, TlNi$_{2}$S$_{2}$ and TlNi$_{2}$SeS exhibits two unexpected features: (a) a sudden collapse of the superconducting state at moderate pressure for all three compositions and (b) a dome-shaped pressure dependence of $T_c$ for TlNi$_{2}$SeS. These results point to the nontrivial role of S substitution and its subtle interplay with applied pressure, as well as novel superconducting properties of the TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ system.
