The Fermi surface of graphite has been mapped out using de Haas van Alphen (dHvA) measurements at low temperature with in-situ rotation. For tilt angles $theta>60^{circ}$ between the magnetic field and the c-axis, the majority electron and hole dHvA periods no longer follow the $cos(theta)$ behavior demonstrating that graphite has a 3 dimensional closed Fermi surface. The Fermi surface of graphite is accurately described by highly elongated ellipsoids. A comparison with the calculated Fermi surface suggests that the SWM trigonal warping parameter $gamma_3$ is significantly larger than previously thought.

The theoretical investigation of the cluster de Haas - van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations in three-dimensional systems performed for the first time. Applying a three-dimensional oscillator model to systems with electron numbers $10< N leq 10^5$ we predic t distinctive size effects: the dHvA oscillations can be observed only within a certain temperature range determined by $N$; the lower size limit for $N$ is $approx 20$; the amount of the dHvA oscillations is reduced with decreasing $N$ which is accompanied by stretching the period of the oscillations.
The de Haas - van Alphen effect in two-dimensional (2D) metals is investigated at different conditions and with different shapes of Landau levels (LLs). The analytical calculations can be done when many LLs are occupied. We consider the cases of fixe d particle number ($N=const$), fixed chemical potential ($mu =const$) and the intermediate situation of finite electron reservoir. The last case takes place in organic metals due to quasi-one-dimensional sheets of Fermi surface. We obtained the envelopes of magnetization oscillations in all these cases in the limit of low temperature and Dingle temperature, where the oscillations can not be approximated by few first terms in the harmonic expansion. The results are compared and shown to be substantially different for different shapes of LLs. The simple relation between the shape of LLs and the wave form of magnetization oscillations is found. It allows to obtain the density of states distribution at arbitrary magnetic field and spin-splitting using the measurement of the magnetization curve. The analytical formula for the magnetization at $mu =const$ and the Lorentzian shape of LLs at arbitrary temperature, Dingle temperature and spin splitting is obtained and used to examine the possibility of the diamagnetic phase transition in 2D metals.
We report measurements of the de Haas-van Alphen effect for single crystals of MgB$_2$, in magnetic fields up to 32 Tesla. In contrast to our earlier work, dHvA orbits from all four sheets of the Fermi surface were detected. Our results are in good o verall agreement with calculations of the electronic structure and the electron-phonon mass enhancements of the various orbits, but there are some small quantitative discrepancies. In particular, systematic differences in the relative volumes of the Fermi surface sheets and the magnitudes of the electron-phonon coupling constants could be large enough to affect detailed calculations of T$_{c}$ and other superconducting properties.

We report the angular dependence of three distinct de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) frequencies of the torque magnetization in the itinerant antiferromagnet CrB2 at temperatures down to 0.3K and magnetic fields up to 14T. Comparison with the calculated Ferm i surface of nonmagnetic CrB2 suggests that two of the observed dHvA oscillations arise from electron-like Fermi surface sheets formed by bands with strong B-px,y character which should be rather insensitive to exchange splitting. The measured effective masses of these Fermi surface sheets display strong enhancements of up to a factor of two over the calculated band masses which we attribute to electron-phonon coupling and electronic correlations. For the temperature and field range studied, we do not observe signatures reminiscent of the heavy d-electron bands expected for antiferromagnetic CrB2. In view that the B-p bands are at the heart of conventional high-temperature superconductivity in the isostructural MgB2, we consider possible implications of our findings for nonmagnetic CrB2 and an interplay of itinerant antiferromagnetism with superconductivity.

Based on the recently proposed concept of effective gauge potential and magnetic field for photons, we numerically demonstrate a photonic de Haas-van Alphen effect. We show that in a dynamically modulated photonic resonator lattice exhibiting an effe ct magnetic field, the trajectories of the light beam at a given frequency have the same shape as the constant energy contour for the photonic band structure of the lattice in the absence of the effective magnetic field.
