Motivated by recent problems regarding the symmetry of Hecke algebras, we investigate the symmetry of the endomorphism algebra $E_P(M)$ for $P$ a $p$-group and $M$ a $kP$-module with $k$ a field of characteristic $p$. We provide a complete analysis for cyclic $p$-groups and the dihedral 2-groups. For the dihedral 2-groups, this requires the classification of the indecomposable modules in terms of string modules and band modules. We generalize our techniques to consider $E_{Lambda}(M)$ for $Lambda$ a Nakayama algebra, a local algebra, or even an arbitrary algebra.

We show that, in a highest weight category with duality, the endomorphism algebra of a tilting object is naturally a cellular algebra. Our proof generalizes a recent construction of Andersen, Stroppel, and Tubbenhauer. This result raises the question of whether all cellular algebras can be realized in this way. The construction also works without the presence of a duality and yields standard bases, in the sense of Du and Rui, which have similar combinatorial features to cellular bases. As an application, we obtain standard bases -- and thus a general theory of cell modules -- for Hecke algebras associated to finite complex reflection groups (as introduced by Broue, Malle, and Rouquier) via category $mathcal{O}$ of the rational Cherednik algebra. For real reflection groups these bases are cellular.
The Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebra (BMW algebra) of type Dn is shown to be semisimple and free of rank (2^n+1)n!!-(2^(n-1)+1)n! over a specified commutative ring R, where n!! is the product of the first n odd integers. We also show it is a cellular al gebra over suitable ring extensions of R. The Brauer algebra of type Dn is the image af an R-equivariant homomorphism and is also semisimple and free of the same rank, but over the polynomial ring Z with delta and its inverse adjoined. A rewrite system for the Brauer algebra is used in bounding the rank of the BMW algebra above. As a consequence of our results, the generalized Temperley-Lieb algebra of type Dn is a subalgebra of the BMW algebra of the same type.
We study universal enveloping Hopf algebras of Lie algebras in the category of weakly complete vector spaces over the real and complex field.

The Hochschild cohomology ring of a group algebra is an object that has received recent attention, but is difficult to compute, in even the simplest of cases. In this paper, we use the product formula due to Witherspoon and Siegel to extend some of t heir computations. In particular, we compute the Hochschild cohomology algebra of group algebras kG where |G| is less than 16, and we provide an alternative computation of the ring $HH^*(k(E ltimes P))$ considered by Kessar and Linckelmann.
A generalization of the Kauffman tangle algebra is given for Coxeter type Dn. The tangles involve a pole or order 2. The algebra is shown to be isomorphic to the Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebra of the same type. This result extends the isomorphism betw een the two algebras in the classical case, which in our set-up, occurs when the Coxeter type is of type A with index n-1. The proof involves a diagrammatic version of the Brauer algebra of type Dn in which the Temperley-Lieb algebra of type Dn is a subalgebra.
